Recapping -

Got my 401k comp check from my last gig - That worked out well. I told a little fib to BHk, and said that I expected about $500, and we got about eight times that amount. (I was planning for about six times.)

Went to Annapolis and promptly deposited that little windfall in the bank - then stopped off at the Amish Farmer's Market for breakfast. BHK and I split two - ate half and then swapped Chocolate Chip Pancakes, home fries, cheddar cheese omelet, wheat toast - I let BHK eat up all of the bacon, of course.

Opted out of going to a movie - nothing we want to see just this moment.. maybe next week when it's less crowded.  We did get a few other goodies at the farmer's market - cheese, strawberries, trinket's for our 4'th of July cake (gummy stars and confetti sprinkles), a blueberry fritter for me for tomorrow's breakfast (or tonight's midnight snack)

BHK remembered that I was due for shots (skipped when em was here) and we went there for a bit. Adam called, and mentioned that he was coming down for the 3rd's fireworks, an was bringing Anna - so, it was a quick trip to the grocery to be sure he had a full belly.

I was feeling pretty out of it at that point, so I rested in the car. Going to nap now that we're home. sweet dreams, dear journal.

added for no reason, except that I like Em and Otters - S6303931

Lucky day today - in a nutshell -
  • Bought $5 worth of scratch-offs - won $12.
  • Insurance is going to pay to repair the wheel issue on the love cube.
  • BHK got $9 back in cash and free popcorn and cheap soda pop at Safeway.
  • It's Friday!
  • BHK made yummy veggie soup.
  • Ugly Betty was pretty fun!
  • Promising emails in the works, regarding the condo association.

I forgot to mention what we did after getting my allergy shots yesterday! We stopped off at Giant, grabbed some rolls, cheese, mustard and turkey (last one just for BHK), then toddled over to Dunkirk District Park. Pretty cool place - has a nice skate ramp, lots of picnic tables, wooded areas, fields for baseball, basketball, tennis and lacrosse. I get the feeling that as it warms up, it'll be the kids place to be.

We polished off our sammiches, and got back in the car just in time to beat the rain - it was still coming down pretty hard when we picked up our rosebushes - They look like bundles of dirty stick for now, but just wait a month... they'll be in the ground by May 1... after the worst chance of another cold snap has passed.

Went to Sneade's for some more seeding trays, a springtime flag for our pole (it's cute - a beehive - "home is where my honey is" I need to check permissions for putting in a hive of my own out back this year), and a few grilly-items. Saw Larry there, and invited him and Chris over to do some grilling on Sunday... he reminded us that the United States Navy Band was playing - for some reason, we thought it was Sunday night... so we headed home, had a little nap, got cleaned up, and enjoyed some note-perfect music. It was a band, not an orchestra - BHK was missing the strings section, but made up for it by enjoying the percussion and giggling at the high cheese factor of the announcer / vocalist's styling of Man of La Mancha.

The concert was only an hour long - we picked up Chris (who wasn't interested in attending), and all headed to Thursday's. It was quite good.

Anyhow - We did chores and stayed close to home today. BHK worked on the yard, while I got us caught up with last minute Taxes (That's why Chris didn't attend - running last minute scenarios.) My first year of filing jointly as a married sort of fellow - a bit different than filing alone. Lots of deductions this year - health care, homestead, school loan interest... I guess I'm a grownup after all. Good thing is that we're getting some going back, not to mention the "gimme" from the govt that everyone's getting.

We'll sock some of it away, put some towards furniture, I suspect - a new mattress, or upholstering the coming couch, maybe?

BHK beat me at Hacienda again, but it was dang close. If I had one more turn, I might've beaten her. Alas, I did not! Still, it was a good game, and I think we had a lot of fun playing.

Rules of thumb - get as many markets as you can, as fast as you can! Don't bother saving money... the three turn limit cuts what you can spend pretty hard.

I suspect I'll sneak in a game of Wishes Were Fishes next week. Failing that - maybe if we go do paint your own pottery, I'll make us a set of Tally-Ho! (I discovered it at Yucata... it's close to a combination of my plans for Brier Patch and Pumpkin with Icehouse pyramids - likely a better play design, too)

Visited with the inlaws for a late breakfast and chit-chat, bugged out and proceeded to tina’s to do a little kitty-loving while she’s out of town, and then headed home to take care of some lingering duties I had left. Paid the cable bill, took care of this year’s taxes - I have about $700 coming back to me this year due to the interest paid on my condo. (it would’ve been only about $280, otherwise). I also logged about a dozen pepsi caps into the online car-contest thing. I’ve been harvesting both those and coke lids from the workplace (and in the case of coke, from our fridge) for about 3 weeks now. The coke site was down for repairs, but hopefully one or both of those will turn into something spiffy soon.

GeotargetI didn't do much of anything this weekend. I didn't put on shoes. I didn't leave the third floor. I did clean house, laundry, etc.

Watched the heck out of the Kong DVDs... all the special edition stuff... Harryhausen's test footage and the documentary on "the making of" was pretty dang impressive, and Harryhausen's commentary was good on the movie disc, too. A lot of it was interpolated, due to the movie being over 70 years old.. just about everyone remotely involved in the project are long deceased. It worked out quite nicely, however, since the material hasn't changed in that span, either.

GeotargetRS thinks that I have some big secret plans for the weekend, I think because I let her go on about her weekend plans and whatnot, and then we got to talking about something else. Nope, nothing special planned... just sleeping in and lingering around the neighborhood, doing more walkies if I can. No glamorous binges on booze and loose women, just a nice weekend out and about.

FDLE coming by the office on Monday morning, FBI Tuesday, and who knows what Wednesday will bring? Maybe big brain, ha-ha? I'm glad that HP has been as patient with me as possible.

I was so beat last night that I fell asleep at 8:30... woke up at 4ish am as a result. I suspect my weekend might be a little out of whack as a result. A bit too brisk out for a swim in the pool... maybe after the sun rises.

I find it amazing that my electric bill for the new one bedroom is less than my old studio... the old place must've not been very well weather sealed. $70 is almost a third less than what I paid last January. Also, automatic billpay is beautiful. I just get an email a week before it's paid, so I can update my records, and hey, presto!

Laser pointer is nifty in the early morning fog... the line goes on for a huge distance.

Dopey dreams of work last night...I don't much like it when the daily mundane starts stepping on areas that usually allow for people being changed into modular string bean / sabre-toothed tiger stereo components. Most of the drama that I was expecting to happen didn't occur yesterday, so maybe that was why it was pressing on the brain. Next Friday will be considerably different, and I expect the company to have some drastic changes in one way or another by February.

May be getting together with Bro tomorrow, if plans stay on track. I think a beach walk is in order, or maybe a bike trip.

Speaking of words, I never seem to get a good opportunity to use the term "vortex". (not to mention - vortical, vorticose, vorticular or vortiginous) Like kissing a woman's hand, it's either too much, or not enough.

Windows update now has an official security patch for the wmf vulnerability...update your system normally, and you'll no longer need that patch posted earlier. To delete the old patch, go to the control panel, add/remove programs - It will be in the list of installed programs as "Windows WMFMetafile Vulnerability HotFix". click on change/remove, and once it's out, reboot. all done!

Those Yahoo ads are earning about $0.56 a day lately, down from an overall average of about $2.69 a day. (one insane day 12/15 that got nuts threw off the average.. $19.68) .. but most days haven't broken a dollar. Upside, there has only been one day when *nothing* was earned since I started hosting them. That plus the $50 flat I get each month from my static front page linkies every month makes for a nice charity lump sum base.

GeotargetI'd like a comfy linen/cotton blend suit, and a snappy gray fedora. Not sure where that urge for a summer suit in November came from.

I can't watch TV shows that place in hospitals, at least not around the anniversary of my father's death or his birthday. I had an extended crying jag last night when I remembered that his birthday is coming up in about 2 weeks. First time I've really cried for quite a while. Ultimately cleansing, but think I hurt my side a little bit as a result. Newt was a great comfort to me.

I miss my dad. I miss the way my brother was when he was 12. I think that I get along with my mother better these days than I ever had as a kid.

The office has decided not to pay salaried folks for time away from work due to Hurricane Wilma... I'm going to point them to Hurricane Wilma Disaster Unemployment Assistance. To determine eligibility for Wilma DUA (or standard unemployment benefits), start by contacting the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation (Florida unemployment office) or filing an unemployment claim through same by 11/28/2005. For information about other types of Hurricane Wilma disaster assistance, browse the FEMA and FDEM sites.

I'm safe... I worked every day save for 2, and those two days I gave training and tech walk-through to our rep in Texas. I think that everyone else save for ECN and myself will end up getting docked a little more than week's pay. (I wonder if the Big Kahuna will cut herself, too?)

D'oh! I left my camera at work! How'd I do that? It must've been because I had my handspring in my pocket. Looks like Bonbon spawn#2 got a talking to for drag racing on company time...not to mention Buddha, Sissy-Greg, and Buddha2 got in trouble for sleeping on the job. Second time in two days. The days are getting visibly shorter lately...The sun has officially set by 8pm, and it makes reading more difficult.

Work wants me to make them a website. I don't think I want to make one for them... I'm not sure... I guess I'll do my best, give them something that looks like the company's brochure, and hope for the best... it'll be a change of duty... but somehow, I don't want to go into doing a lot of web page design for the company...or, if I do, I want to be paid accordingly for more responsibility and a broader spectrum of skills put to use. I doubt that'll happen. (Especially since my design sense is spartan. I'm much better at programming and keeping interfaces simple, rather than the many bells and whistles that clients might want for a website.) That's one of those things that has very little definition, and I fear "Too many chefs" syndrome... Building a website for these guys is going to be an exercise in micromanagement and nit-pickery. When I write a program for the company, I know that there'll be set resolution sizes, no unusual ways of loading the program (like a non-standard browser / Netscape / opera, etc) and no diphthongs asking for "Hey, have something that chases the mouse with the company logo on it!" I must make a point of keeping an open mind... it could be fun. No more negativity, Scotto... deal with it as it comes.

I like the new Tori single. (Big shock there.)

You know blogging has become passé when a soap opera creates blogs "written" by two of its characters.

Watched a little 700 club this morning. He's got some severe logic issues, as well as a lot of internal hate. I went online to find a transcript of today's show, to reference ...it's not available yet. When my spiders bring it back, I'll have more to say. Long story short, the guy's a racist and has a lot of intolerance. Something about "Judge Not" is ringing in my ears.

Payday. I hope It gets off to a kinder roll soon.
scottobear: (where the road leads)
got up early this morning to walkies, but I'm not quite up to it yet. made it to the gas station and back, but the beach was too much effort for me today, in the tail end of my sick-yuck.

I hope my sweetie's feeling better... the poor girl's had to deal with one pesky trouble after another and certainly deserves the weekend to relax and recuperate.

I really want a digicam. That wacky mp3 player one looks like a nice fun gizmo, and cheap too. a nice thing to take with me on outings... there wasn't anything that called out to me today to take a snapshot of, but I'm sure taking pictures of the airport, or sunrise on the beach would be fun.

Payday. (Last one before the end of the month) That's something to be happy about... my budgeting is working nicely, building a comfortable little nest egg. when I first started my LJ, I was in financial straits... paying the bills for three grownups as well as myself. Thankfully, they've all recovered from the income troubles they were having, and I no longer have to squeak by paycheck to paycheck. I know so many people now that are taking care of adult dependants... Kevin (my boss) with his sisters, nephews and brother in law seems to have it the worst. He's 33 years old, and is tending to the needs of four adults and three children. I wonder how he manages to keep himself fed, clothed and as stress-free as he does. I know of other folks, even younger, tending to the needs of parents or siblings too... I suppose there's one caregiver and at least one care-needer in every family. (Poor Kev just is taking up six other folks' slack)

I found myself thinking of walking with my love, hand in hand...as I'm frequently wont to do...she travels with me in my heart everywhere. thought about swinging arms, and laughing... always makes me walk farther than if I were alone.

Got a ceramic goose?

Want to dress it up like a cop?

I thought so. (Note - the costume is the only thing being sold, as it does not come with the goose. I suppose you have to supply your own..I suppose it would fit on a flesh and feathers goose, too, if you've got one?)

Apparently she makes a lot of different outfits - has dutch children's clothes, a nun, a doctor and a few others.

Sort of surreal...Is this a market that I've just never heard anything about? I'm not sure if I should admire her handiwork, laugh, or run in fear of the animals dressing as would men.

Sakes. Didn't I just leave?

New info on Suzy, she has her hearing tomorrow, with a Judge that's apparently not very 'probation-friendly'. From the sound of it, she could lose her apartment, her car, and her job if she spends a considerable amount of time in jail. Right now, the figuring is about 9 months, mostly for breaking probation. Her Hearing is 8:30 am tomorrow, where she's going to try and push the next hearing forward, in the hopes a different Judge will get her and show more mercy than her current one... getting rid of her lawyer and going with a puvlic defender should allow her to move the schedule along. I was talking with pals over at worldwide, and they think that she should get a 'real' attorney. Unfortunately, those cost some $$$... looks like a $5000 retainer is in order. I can't help her there, as I'm not packing that sort of liquid assets. More to follow tomorrow after the first hearing.
