8607 - some pictures, I saw damien.
Oct. 21st, 2006 08:07 amSaw Damien on the bus - he didn't recognize me.. last time he saw me, I had a full bear, long hair down, and was dancing with Willow.
I think the last time I spoke to him was Christmas at the 'Borgs, about a decade ago.
Yup, I've got a picture, though Damien isn't in it.
Ah, here's one with him in it from about the same time - He's on the left, in the tie dye, hands on his knees. I'm practically invisible on the right, a hovering set of cheekbones and a forehead. A lot fo people in that picture that I haven't seen in a while. Notably Kenny the Klown (he's in NC right now), The Three Brians, Eryn, Nate/Nug, Leisa, and the rest. I miss the drum circle / guitars on the beach days, when I remember to remember them. Lots of good cheer, good vibes, and positive thoughts. Very little negativity then... I think I learned a lot from those guys.
Anyhow... Damien.. he's not doing so well. He was drinking vodka from a bottle in the back of the bus, with some older woman (maybe 25 years his senior... and not his mom Deirdre, either.) and taking some transparent caps... could've been acid, but I'm not sure. He was looking quite worn... a few days growth of beard, cuts and sores on his face and arms. I didn't know who he was at first, until I heard him talking in the nasal slur to his seat mate.

It's a little flattering when folks use my icons as their own... Newtie Blah-blah is the latest one discovered in use by someone else. (Sadly, I've had to ask her to remove it, due to reasons of senitment and copyright.)
Grabbed the latest episode of Lost after getting high marks from a few people I trust... haven't watched it yet, but have heard that it focuses on Eko, Charlie and the monster.
Also, Doctor Who will be airing on the Sci-fi channel starting in March. Funny how they changed their tune... I guess Battlestar Galactica's success alone couldn't float stinkburgers like Mansquito and the bulk of it's original programming.
Ultraman Taro on Youtube! Bless Youtube for keeping me in giant rubber monsters.
Sam Raimi has announced his next project after Spidey 3...it's The Wee Free Men. Crivens!!

Talked to the home office of CompUsa, and they're going to fedex the part from Kentucky... Big brain should be ready for me by Tuesday night. Yeah, yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. The boss also said that they'd toss in some gigs of memory in at cost, and install 'em for nothing.
Going to try to get Hippie Dave to get together with Comic Dave in Fort Lauderdale this weekend.

The Dan-man and I went out to an all-you-dare-eat buffet for Sushi/Thai/Chinese, and it was actually quite good. Afterward, we swung by Crabby Jacks to solve his caffeine needs and Miranda got a pretty awesome tip ($5 after a bill for $0.69 - the coffee was free and I had a draft) - after we hung out a bit and chitty-chatted. I told him a bit about my beliefs regarding meeting someone for a lifelong commitment at this point (I suspect odds of meeting someone that I have chemistry with, a minimum of emotional baggage, and a mutual appreciation of one another to be very, very, very slim.) Explained to him why Magda wasn't a viable option, though she and I did have a nice time together. I honestly don't know if there are any wedding bells in my future, but If I were a betting man, I know that I'd opt for "not likely." I know good couples are out there... Dave & Cathi / GrayPumpkin & Katt are two of the best examples of two pairings as well-suited for one another for life that I can think of.
In the last decade, I've had the following serious relationships:
Lees - 6 monthsCome to think of it, I don't have any trouble getting dates... it's the longevity that needs work. Breakups are fairly even, an assortment of reasons, from a lack of trust to a lack of interest.
Eryn - 3 months
April - 4 months
Rachel - 6 months
CEJ - 2ish years, Almost 3 if you count on and off time
D - A bit over a year
Mel - 3 months
Magda - 5 months (9 minus the months where she was in Columbia)
Hair-wise, we've got a Blond x2, Brown x3, Black x2, and a RedheadI've been proposed to on two different occasions, and I honestly thought I'd end up with CEJ for life... she was the last one that gave me those sorts of feelings.
Tattoo-wise - 6 had ink.. some got it while I was with 'em.
Politics/Attitudes - Leftx2, Modx4, Rightx2
Readers - 4 yes, 4 no
eye color - Brown - 5 Hazel -1 Blue - 2
all were fairly chesty
Looking back, I do pretty well, for a serial monogamist with no vehicle of his own.
Dan got me a few very nice gifts for Christmas.... No Software this year. A used book on dinosaurs, a new copy of Pratchett's Last Hero, a t-shirt and a zip-up shirt (both too small, unfortunately), a carrying case for a digital camera/palmtop, and some jalepeno peanuts. We tried out the Peking House restauant, but it had a bad vibe, so we went to the one we're more fond of dining at.

Dec. 26th, 2005 07:00 amGot some 2L wonderful holiday cheer from Herm via email... I'm really looking forward to hopping back in there. The motherboard and memoryt is back in place, just waiting on the graphics card now (which was supposed to have arrived a week or more ago)
Lo! in the middle of the wood,
The folded leaf is woo’d from out the bud
With winds upon the branch, and there
Grows green and broad, and takes no care,
Sun-steep’d at noon, and in the moon
Nightly dew-fed; and turning yellow
Falls, and floats adown the air.
Lo! sweeten’d with the summer light,
The full-juiced apple, waxing over-mellow,
Drops in a silent autumn night.
All its allotted length of days,
The flower ripens in its place,
Ripens and fades, and falls, and hath no toil,
Fast-rooted in the fruitful soil.~ Tennyson
Newton had a great Christmas morning... I gave him a gift bag full of paper wads. He went for it pretty confidently, took a paw, turned it on its side and grabbed one, and smacked it around. I have little doubt that he'll use the big bag as a hideout, too. I've got a spray bottle of "liquid catnip" but haven't used it yet.. I was going to recharge some of his toys with it, but he's still pretty fond of grabbing them, and raking with his rear claws, purring all the while without needing one. Newt gave me my favorite present, too, just some morning lovies.
Went to Christmas party at Cathi's Folks... it was lovely, a beautiful study in organized chaos. I wasn't Santa's helper this year, Joe took the role, which was pretty awesomely done. He did a great job, and the gazillion kidlets ate it up.
Speaking of eating things up, Mama 'borg sent me home with a pile of food. stuffed shells, Christmas cookies, cake, cauliflower salad, and muchy good cheer. Stephen and Elizabeth are so much older now, Allie and Nicole are both quite grown, too! A lot can happen to a kid in 4 years. Nicole looks like 16 or more at 14, and I can't believe Steven's old enough to drive now.
Mayah and her sis were running pretty wild on holiday sweets, santa excitement and general overstimulation. Dave had already gotten his fill of the insanity a bit before I arrived, but he's very good about keeping his cool. Cathi thrives in whirlwind chaos, so it wasn't a big thing for her.
I met Rosie at last, and she's a sweetheart, and her son is Mayah's "boyfriend" (they're both 5).
I still possess the power of being a big teddy bear to the kidlets. Apparently, I'm a big, soft jungle gym for tykes to maul, which was fine by me. Allie was doting on me once I commented on how good the cookies she made were.( She was the star kid of the party, anyhow. Usually the youngest, she got a chance to shine by being the "big girl" with the littler kidlets by helping and leading without being bossy. )
Dick did a good job communicating without his robo-voice... his prosthetic allows him to cap off airflow and talk with a hoarse whisper now, rather than the cylon-voicebox he was using before. He's had a lot carved out of him during his fight with the big C. Mouth, throat, lung, but now he's healthy as a proverbial horse.

Random Board game Factoid of the day -
Stratego is a somewhat watered-down version of Prussian chess. War college cadets played chess with the pieces shaped like the Stratego pieces, which meant that each player knew what his pieces were, but didn't know what the opponent's pieces were unless he remembered how they moved or what their original position had been. It strikes me as a great way to reinforce the learning experience, and to teach the importance of intelligence in planning. The real fun was in finishing games that you didn't start. You would have to look at the captured pieces, your own captured pieces, the positions on the board - and figure out what the remaining pieces were from where they were and how they were being used. Another, tougher variation of Prussian chess had a wall across the middle of the board. Each player could only see their own side of the board, and had to control his pieces past the wall from memory.

- Cathi’s dad got a tracheotomy / will have a voice box put in, hopefully they caught all of his throat cancer.
- I dropped and broke a plate. Newt didn’t like being sealed in the bathroom as I cleaned up. Not one little bit.

Oct. 23rd, 2002 11:19 pmWachovia now has my proof of residence... I'm probably going to get a call tomorrow, confirming that I can open the account.
One of my dollars made it to Scottsdale Arizona! Ito only took 2 yrs, 238 days, 22 hrs, 19 min to get there... traveled 1963 miles (or an average of 2 miles a day)
I registered years ago with Where's George, and forgot about it about six months later. I registered maybe a dozen bills, and grew bored when none came back. Now that I've finally gotten some confirmation, I'll start registering more, just to see where it goes. I think that I first found out about Where's George via Ana cam, just like I found LiveJournal, though I haven't really been to Ana cam in ages. Danny still has a T-shirt from her site somewhere... it's a great shirt.
I've just found an interesting element of the magic levitation rules...Dave's going to get it, next time we play.( Mage knight rules stuff )
Ten New Wallace and Gromit Episodes are coming! As is the Day of the dead.
This big German boy made little pizzas in a Japanese toaster oven on English muffins, and used jalapenos and Mexican seasoning for din din tonight... There's a multicultural dish for you! Makes up for the blah-ness of my lunch. I'm also having a killian's red... I think that this is the first beer in the new apartment. Only one, however. If I need more to drink after finishing it, I'll have water.
Dan's a go for calling in sick a week from Friday... good. We'll get to goof off, post-Halloween. He's got blood sugar troubles, and his wife has other dietary issues...so I claim his candy in the name of Yetis everywhere! (If he gets any.)

Paper airplane simulator is fun for a few tosses. My best distance is 102.3682 feet
Didn't go for the morning cycle today... just wasn't into it. I preferred to walk around my apartment building and the blocks surrounding. I want to get a more intimate knowledge of my region.
More free movies in my vicinity Young Frankenstein, Rocky Horror, Men in Black and Back to the Future... the weather's getting nice, too. Python wasn't bad, not too muggy... but the nights are much more pleasant now.
I look at the LJ logo of a pencil, and wonder if a broken record wouldn't be a better one.
Hee... Dave picked this thing up to take on my big guns...I like the shoulder-turreted dwarves. The detail is *excellent*... I wonder how they get such good work on such an inexpensive product... like MacFarlane's toys. I'll be interested in seeing how well it stands up to cannon-fire.
Looks like ye olde Newtie webcamme is about kaput. He put in a good term of service... a few solid years. I'll pick up a fresh one the next time I hit the office depot...they're so cheap these days! It's so old that Windows 2000 doesn't have a support driver for it... sort of been fudging with a home-brew one I found online after the system was reformatted. I'd still like to grab a Lego cam to work with the rest of the mindstorm stuff.
In a similar vein, here's an article about camera zapping with a laser pointer... neat! Temporary, too.
( Newer Giant Rubber Monster Movies I plan on burning to VCD, over time. )
It's funny... thinking of the painted desert, two years ago... it's like it happened yesterday. I've got a warm feeling inside.. I like that.

Oct. 21st, 2002 11:07 amThe G: was the last remaining part from Astley's old "gray market" machine, short of the case. It was only a matter of time. I'll replace it with a bigger HD as a self-gift this coming holiday.
Poor Dave is banned from getting any more toy soldiers to play mage knight with me, at least for the time being...which I think is fine. We both have more than enough pieces to play a big honking battle, plus we’ve been trading amongst ourselves to our mutual benefit. (I'm not planning on getting any more myself, unless something really amazing comes out in the next expansion... like pirate ships or something.)
Little knot on my skull seems to be ok... sore to the touch, but the swelling has gone mostly down, and I don't notice it unless I run a finger over it.
I've discovered that whenever ER is on, it's always about the abandoned little Russian girl. I can't say that I've ever seen any other episode, though I've run over this one about five times.
The Accexpo is coming soon...I thought it was thanksgiving weekend, but it looks like it's the weekend before now. It looks like they need volunteers.. maybe I'll take on a shift for free tickets. Security or door monitor is easy work, and you get some lovely perqs... free t-shirt and all. The gaming schedule has very little listed...the Marvel heroclix and mage knight head to head looks like the only things there that tickle my fancy, thus far.
Ok, enough lollygagging...off to work. See you later, dear journal.

Oct. 19th, 2002 02:33 pmTotal count... 100 regular gray zombies, 106 glowies. (Zombies2 expansion came with six glowies... and more goodies too... I've not tried the expansion out yet), Very nice artwork and the pawns (figures? sculpts? whatever. the little men) are very nice... the only disappointment is that all the zombies have the same pose. Limping along, one arm outstretched...stomach has fallen out, and you can see the spinal column through the middle. Oh, heck, lemme take a picture. There, I slapped it on the left. Newt's already fond of batting them around... but he still prefers the twist ties. Good thing, too. I have a way of distracting him from hopping on the table, and making off with play pieces.

I also picked up some artillery, speaking of mage knight. I got a pack of cannons, a stone thrower, and ballista. That should make things a mite more interesting on the field, next combat with ol' Dave. I'm thinking about painting a few of them, too... just to mix it up, and add some detail... maybe in just all black / white / gray paints, though, to keep it in theme...
In other news, I have all the ingrediants to make that tasty stir fry for supper, now. I may cheat and make it for lunch. :) Also, my clicker rings finally came in the mail today!
I don't have rotating dorsal spines and electrical ray-gun eyeballs. I am kind of husky though, and the nose drip and eye redness is only when I hit something I'm allergic to. The Noxious, flammable gas doesn't come from my nose, and that's only when I have a lot of broccoli.
Dave is a go for Lost realms this morning. That's good!
Newt's a sweetie... i ran out of soft treats to give him, and instead just poured a few kibs into my palm for him to have. He ate them just as greedily. I think he just likes being hand-fed by his mamma.
Received a wrong number phone call this morning... I've had them call before. A 6:15 call wasn't what I was wanting to start the day with, but it got me up and moving. I'm off to the quest... until later, dear journal!

Oct. 7th, 2002 09:45 pmThis week is random employee vanishment week... Finn and Santie will be gone until Thursday, the island boy is taking off Friday through the following Wednesday. Sappho and Riker have postponed the Peace River trip until November, though, because the water's risen recently. I'm still planning on taking Halloween and 11/1 off, just for the halibut.
My brother bawled out some of his friends big time, right before I got home for ditching him at 7-11. he called and left a message apologizing, in case I heard him. Sakes... he must've been outraged.
Dick Cheney has a scary face all the time. He needs to learn to smile for the cameras more often.
Dave showed me the Star Wars Gangsta Rap.
I'm sending positive and happy thoughts to my sweetheart tonight and tomorrow. (As always!) I got to talk to her for a while today... she's being worked pretty hard too. I think that Wednesday will mark a comfort point for her, though, if she can squeak through tomorrow with a minimum of stress or annoyance.

500 point game, Dave victory. Well done, pretty even
300 point game, my victory.. it was pretty much a landslide. He took out my one close-combat guy, and my ranged attacks finished him pretty quickly afterwards.
"Rave is nothing like disco! Disco was crappy, cheesy electronic music, ugly expensive clothes, lousy dancing, drugs up the ass and wild sex! Rave is... uh, um.. well we don't have wild sex... oh, forget it."
Played Mageknight with Dave earlier, I won two out of three games. (I won a 300 and a 200-pt, he won the final 200-point) His winning tactic was a good one... send in fliers with area effect attacks to nail me from behind, while I wasted time spinning around to get my firing arcs in line with the enemy... then sending in big muscle to finish the job. Plus, he killed off my medic just about first thing. Excellent methodology.
My way of winning is usually a static artillery, and formation movement... taking advantage of cutting off his ranged attackers by going into close combat quickly with his weaker elements. I need to download and print these out... my special abilities card doesn't list the circles. Unlimited special abilities card Dungeon special abilities card
for the record... I'm guilty of liking both disco and rave music.
Soon, the new building going up will hide the potato-chip looking amphitheatre... drat.

Sep. 10th, 2002 06:36 amHe's all tuckered out now, but I'm not ready to go back to bed yet... and it's too early to go outside for walkies... still rather dark. Brain's not up to really reading or writing too much at the moment.
Five hours until my ebay auction closes... nobody else has bid on it, but it's usually not until the last moment that the sneaky-boogers jump in and start sniffing around.
Mild dizziness this morn. Not sure if it's the groggies from an early rise, or if I'm getting symptoms of Dave's cold. No other flu-elements yet, so we'll see what happens. The ol' noggin doesn't have all the right marbles in the proper holes at the moment yet.
Well, off to the morning routine. See you in a bit, dear journal.

Sep. 8th, 2002 08:24 pmI also got - two freelancers (red and blue) Which look to me like German Shock troops...a shade, wood golem Living elemental (A good brother piece to the golem), amotep gunner, ranger (not nearly painted this well) Half-troll hacker, black powder boomer, leech medic , screeching terror, altem guardsman, and dwarven fuser (who looks like he has a spoon on his nose).
My least favorite piece- Amazon Blade mistress... because the paint job is awful, and the base is tough to click.
My Faves - Chaos Mage - I like his antlers, and he kicks butt...much neater looking in person. I also got his little brother, the Slasher, who looks nothing like his picture there. Deep Spawn is nifty, but mine is black, with a light green detail.
Most useful overall? The Chaos Mage, above, and the Grave Robbers (I got a red and a blue of those, too)... Kept me from losing my army very fast.
I had a nice time... Cathi seems to be sort of rough around the edges, these days, though. Weirdness... Mark Archila is working at the Lost Realms store, and recognized me right away. I may call 'em back and say hi... it's weird seeing him with long hair and I guess he's living on his own in west palm.Still a nice, friendly, genuine guy, though.
P.S... The twelve dragons store? It smells like pee. cat pee. a lot of it. my eyes burned. really. don't go there, ever, unless you want your eyes to burn form a ton of cat-pee smell.
p.p.s.... and the gamers were ordering chinese food to eat there! in the cat-pee scented store. Ack. cute kittens, though.

Sep. 8th, 2002 11:37 amI slept like a corpse last night. Long, deep, seemingly dreamless. Russian Sleep... the kind you wake up like rip van winkle, and see the world around you has changed by 300 years. Newt didn't swab me this morn, or I didn't feel it... when I did wake, my eyes snapped open, and my mind was clear... no grogginess at all. Very unusual for me.. usually I do a slow five or ten minute "fade in".

Sep. 1st, 2002 01:35 amI think Professor X is a jinx piece... I've never seen him play on a winning team where Dave is involved. The leadership power is tempting, and mind control fun, though. I like telling other people's pieces to cause mayhem.
The second game was very close, too...I think that if I'd not taken it that turn, he could very possibly have won the following.... the first game, however was all his.
I didn't go to the art fair today...but I heard that it was only mediocre from my brother.
Zen-kitty was looking good... Marley has lost weight, and has some red spotting on his nose...they're taking him to the vet on Tuesday. Luna is putting on weight. The humans all look healthy.
