GeotargetI'd like a comfy linen/cotton blend suit, and a snappy gray fedora. Not sure where that urge for a summer suit in November came from.

I can't watch TV shows that place in hospitals, at least not around the anniversary of my father's death or his birthday. I had an extended crying jag last night when I remembered that his birthday is coming up in about 2 weeks. First time I've really cried for quite a while. Ultimately cleansing, but think I hurt my side a little bit as a result. Newt was a great comfort to me.

I miss my dad. I miss the way my brother was when he was 12. I think that I get along with my mother better these days than I ever had as a kid.

The office has decided not to pay salaried folks for time away from work due to Hurricane Wilma... I'm going to point them to Hurricane Wilma Disaster Unemployment Assistance. To determine eligibility for Wilma DUA (or standard unemployment benefits), start by contacting the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation (Florida unemployment office) or filing an unemployment claim through same by 11/28/2005. For information about other types of Hurricane Wilma disaster assistance, browse the FEMA and FDEM sites.

I'm safe... I worked every day save for 2, and those two days I gave training and tech walk-through to our rep in Texas. I think that everyone else save for ECN and myself will end up getting docked a little more than week's pay. (I wonder if the Big Kahuna will cut herself, too?)

I am a member of 1 clique of size 7

I get weepy around certain times of the year as well. I'm glad---sorta makes me feel comforted to know that innately I remember---because I NEVER want to forget.

Also

There is something not quite right about not paying salaried people for a natural disaster. You busted your ass and worked but the others that truly weren't able to work shouldn't be penalized---you should just get a bonus!!! (Makes me wonder about the financial stability of the oo.)

That was supposed to be co. not oo. I claim temporary palsy as a result of no coffee and lots of late night reading!!! And if that don't wash then it was all Pyewacket's fault!

That's true.. I don't want to forget.. I wouldn't mind some happy-highs as much as the saddy-lows though.

I agree with you regarding salaried folks... if they were hourly, that's one thing, but to me, salary is defined as a set rate of pay, even if your slaving 80 hours a week or slacking 15 hours. It made me rather mad, because everyone got a good paychack right afte rthe storm, and then it gets followed up with a kick in the nads.

I just love a management theory based on the expend-ablity of your workers. Why won't companies learn that alienating a employees at crucial financial times is NOT the way to solve a crisis. Loyalty begets loyalty. *shakes head*

Well, if they're not careful, vital staff will end up taking off, and the whole place will break both of it's legs, if not outright die.

I can't think of a better group of people to be in a clique with.
Anniversaries do that to people but it is a healthy thing. I sure miss my parents and sister too.
Tough but you are right to let it all out..tears are emotions with an outlet.

Yeah, it's a quickie emotional blast, but I'll be good for another year... sometimes it's important to clean the pipes.

The "Suit" sounds like it would fit the Florida extreme humidity/heat that makes your hair look like a Q-tip weather. And, you'd cut a handsome figure in it too!

I've been enjoying Mr. Newt's photos lately. Been a tad M.I.A. but hey if I am to be part of a real "clique" then hooraaaah, I'm with one of the bestest ones. :)

Crying is a very good release valve. I use it often.

I was thinknig of doing the "Cuban Pete" Zoot suit, too. :)

I'm glad you've been enjoying the Newtster... he makes me very happy, and I'm glad that other people dig seeing his furry face so often. :)

I have the same mixed feelings baout crying. I think when you don't so it too often, you're not that good at it. Yoe end up all puffy and blotchy and choking on phlegm. I'm glad you have Newt to snuggle and hold on to. It helps, huh?

I always feel sad about your Pop. Neither of my parents have passed away, but I haven't seen my mom in 19 years, & that's hard enough as it is.

Did they give a reason for not paying salaried folks? I'm starting to not love smaller companies. I need to be taken care of, just as much as the people they help outside the company. The ones I've worked at, just seem to do what they want to do to employees. Plus, they often don't have the money to do things that larger companies do for employees. When I worked at a small copmany, they didn't give us any pay for ice days. (Austin streets cover over big time with ice, and there's no driving possible. The whole city closes down)

At my last big place, they were more than happy to pay me for ice days off, AND gave me a whole free, vacation day to use later, because I worked a partial ice day.

I don't know if it'd be easier or harder having a no-contact parent that's still alive, or having the loss come quickly with death.

The reason they gave is that "nobody came in to work, so why should we pay them", basically. It really stinks for a couple people, because they live paycheck to paycheck... and the one that came during the 'cane was a full one, with no warning that the *next* would reflect cuts, until the day before checks were handed out. I got my dollars because I actually worked during the power outage at a remote locaton.

The upside is that folks can apply to FEMa and etc for lost wages, but I really don't think it should've happened to salaried people... hourly, I can understand. Something that's burned my britches on more than one occasion is seeing a "salaried" person get cuts for working less than 80 hours, but not getting overtime for putting in over 100.

dirty dirty dirty.

I'm in 5 different cliques. Interesting, because you have tons of people on your list, compared to mine.

hmm... I think it just goes for the largest clique, and will show all ties. I'd like to see how many "smaller" cliques I've got, if any. I know that I'm in at least one or two with you, of at least size 3... we have some common buddies.
