Pretty spiffy Zim and Kane Action this weekend. Il Postino was surprisingly good, too. (Saturday was spent watching Carnivale and writing. Drastic revisions to the detective story...I suspect I may be over-editing.
Cleansing chalk is better when it doesn't have bacon in it. Space-time object replacement device is ready, too.
I didn't venture any further than 25 steps from the HQ all weekend, and that's really just fine by me. Only objectives left for today and depositing checks from doing tech support and click-through. As the top of August approaches, I'm wondering if it'll get donated to heifer.org, or if there's another good "help teach a man to fish" sort of orgs out there.

King Kong you know the name of
King Kong you know the fame of
King Kong ten times as big as a man
One day a boy, too young to know the danger;
Made a friend of this giant fearsome stranger!
And the life they live on their island home became a legend, the legend of . . .
King Kong you know the name of
King Kong you know the fame of
King Kong ten times as big as a man
Throughout the land you've heard about this wonder
Listen closely and you will hear his thunder
This mighty ape can be a friend of men
So says the legend The legend of
King Kong you know the name of
King Kong you know the fame of
King Kong ten times as big as a man
Lordy-lordy, another Monday. Note to self, bring personal forcefield generator, hip-waders, and something to temporarily deafen and keep me looking awake. Oh yeah, and synch up some new books to the pda. I'm thankful for good thoughts that're going to buoy me through the day.

8410 - Ah, good. Friday, is it? Right.
Jun. 16th, 2006 06:06 amECN hooked me up with a side-gig for a website for her boss. That might make for a nice couple of hundred bucks in the next week or two - probably for about 2 or 3 days worth of work over the weekends in my downtime. I can cope with that. I've had quite a dry spell in that department since the grove shut down.
Looking forward to doing a little writing this weekend, too. I'm long out of practice, and I'm due to get back on the wagon again. I've been fooling with a new mystery-type idea, so I'll see how well I can work that up into a few thousand words, give or take.
Set up Newtcam on Big Brain...That should eliminate all the random hang-ups lappie-cam was causing. If all goes well, I may experiment with streaming video again soon. As it is, I'm testing out an "autozoom" feature of the newest version of Where's James webcam... we'll see how it looks.

8385 - Friday. Hoping for a good weekend.
Jun. 2nd, 2006 06:00 amMeeting with mom was interesting. We discussed bro and the new project she has with Wilton. Apparently, in her will, if she and Wilton go together, I am to be executor of the estate. That's a lot of responsibility... bro's share will go into a trust... he can use it for education, rehab or appropriate health expenses, but never will a dollar touch his hands, for fear that he'll spend badly.
M&W's company will be doing some work up in Sterling, VA (about 15 minutes from Dulles airport, or 40 min from DC) during the months of August through October, so I have a free crash spot should I want to visit points north during that time. Sally and Bill are up there, too... I can't believe that she's 61, and he's 50, now. Have twenty-five years really passed that swiftly? I still remember Sally and Mom working at the salon, and my going to see Star Wars in the same plaza. Now, their kids are in the late 20s, too. I'd love to visit the old house, hit the smithsonian Air & Space museum, and visit some LJ-type folk.
I am officially one year cable-tv free. (though I cheat and snag a couple of shows via bittorrent.) Take that, comcast!

noaa predicts very active 2006 north atlantic hurricane season
The outlook calls for a very active 2006 season, with 13-16 named storms, 8-10 hurricanes, and 4-6 major hurricanes. This prediction indicates a continuation of above-normal activity that began in 1995. However, they do not currently expect a repeat of last year’s record season.

"In 1969 the US Senate had a hearing on funding the newly developed Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The proposed endowment was $20 million, but President Nixon wanted it cut in half because of the spending going on in the Vietnam War. This is an video clip of the exchange between Mr. Rogers and Senator Pastore, head of the hearing. Senator Pastore starts out very abrasive and by the time Mr. Rogers is done talking, Senator Pastore's inner child has heard Mr. Rogers and agreed with him. Enjoy."

May. 14th, 2006 06:00 amHappy Mother's Day to all you mothers!
Well, Momster and Wilt are pretty sick and out of commission, so that frees up my Sunday brunch schedule. Walkies it is! I'm not going to dine out this morning, because I know it's pretty much a universal restaurant crowd sort of holiday. It just means I can go to a non-mommy-type place with relative ease today... maybe a movie?
Had a lovely long phone talk yesterday, to make more vacation plans, but we ended up simply chitty-chatting... that was quite nice, too.
An Alien Saucer is hovering overhead. A cone of coherent lime green light erupts from the bottom center of the craft, and strikes a man walking down the street.

You go to my head
And you linger on and refrain
And I find it spinning round in my brain
Like a bubble in a glass of champagne
You go to my head
Like a sip of sparkling Burgundy Blue
And I find the very mention of you
Like a kicker in a Julip or two
CHORUS:
Oh the thrill of the thought
That you might give a thought
To my plea--Cast a spell over me
Still I said to myself: Get a hold of yourself
Can't you see it can never be
You go to my head
With a smile that makes my temperature rise
Like a summer with a thousand July's
You intoxicate my soul with your eyes
Though I'm certain that this heart of mine
Hasn't a ghost of a chance in this crazy romance
You go to my head, you go to my head
You go to my head

Watched the heck out of the Kong DVDs... all the special edition stuff... Harryhausen's test footage and the documentary on "the making of" was pretty dang impressive, and Harryhausen's commentary was good on the movie disc, too. A lot of it was interpolated, due to the movie being over 70 years old.. just about everyone remotely involved in the project are long deceased. It worked out quite nicely, however, since the material hasn't changed in that span, either.

Took a lovely late night swim in the pool at about 2am. The water was warmer than the air, which is always nice. I had a brief moment of iguana-fear, which quickly passed after I gave a quick sweep of the area. Very soothing to float on my back, staring at the moon and just thinking and feeling my toes and fingertips wrinkle up a little. Water is still the closest thing to hitting a reduced gravity environment for me... quite peaceful and I could feel a lot of physical tension flow away from my back, legs and shoulders. I was shivering a bit, despite the warm water, and I don't know what that was...maybe the body unkinking? I may make a habit of nighttime soaks more often.

Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing
They were funky China men from funky Chinatown
They were chopping them up and they were chopping them down

From a feint into a slip, and kicking from the hip
Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing
There was funky Billy Chin and little Sammy Chung
He said here comes the big boss, lets get it on
We took a bow and made a stand, started swinging with the hand
The sudden motion made me skip now we're into a brand knew trip

Can you tell I was at home on call yesterday, dear journal?
Have an mp3 with lyrics to meet my current mood:
( ... )
I was walkin' to the kitchen for some Golden Grahams
When I accidentally stepped into an alternate dimension
And soon I was abducted by some aliens from space
Who kinda looked like Jamie Farr
They sucked out my internal organs
And they took some polaroids
And said I was a darn good sport
And as a way of saying thank you
They offered to transport me back to
Any point in history that I would care to go
And so I had them send me back to last Thursday night
So I could pay my phone bill on time
Just then the floating disembodied head of
Colonel Sanders started yelling
Everything you know is wrong
Black is white, up is down and short is long
And everything you thought was just so
Important doesn't matter
( ... )
I realized yesterday that I'm a bit of a sensualist. I love getting input from all of my senses.... I'd quite miss any of them, even scent and taste. I love holding Newton, and feeling him snuggle softly against me. I love catching a slight trace of perfume in the air, especially after a lovely woman walks past. Hearing a child laugh (or any honest, happy laughter) is a wonderful thing. Music. The taste of a grilled cheese sammich on a cool day...or a cold beer after doing yardwork. Breath on back of my neck before having it kissed. A meaty punch into the heavy bag. A drop of sweat running down your spine once you start really getting warmed up. Foot rubs, or the contented sigh you hear when you give a good foot rub to someone else. Rain on the window, with thunder in the background. Hydrogen peroxide bubbling on a cut. Newt barking/trilling. People-watching for shapes, colors and patterns of movement. Urban decay's textures, easy to feel or see. Bugs' multifaceted rainbow eyes. It's all really good stuff.

Whoosh! Even if it could just do enough to super leap across a traffic intersection -- that'd be fine.
These are a cool middle ground.
I'm tempted to pick up the Monster Island series of games, even though I know odds are good that I'll never sit down and play it with anyone. (Unless I visit

7863 - The Great Old Pumpkin
Oct. 28th, 2005 03:06 pmPeanuts meets Lovecraft:
As you are no doubt aware, I am the issue of solid Dutch stock—the prosperous Van Pelt family of St. Paul. Mine was a comfortable and happy childhood, and I spent much of it in the devoted service of the Great Old Pumpkin. For him, I cultivated an annual pumpkin patch—mostly Autumn Gold and Big Max, as I thought he would find the Atlantic Giants tacky. I also evangelized him in the community, relating the tale of how, every year on Hallowmas Eve, the day when the spiritual most strongly encroaches on the substantial, this mightiest of gourds would rise to revel across the world with the most sincere of his adorers. My neighbors were understandably skeptical; after all, not once had this superbeing ever chosen to grace my pumpkin patch or any other place in our town. I vowed that I would coax him into my backyard, and I set out in the manner of a learned man to discover how I might do this.Read the full text here, or download an MP3 reading (with background music) here.

It's so old that Windows 2000 doesn't have a support driver for it... sort of been fudging with a home-brew one I found online after the system was reformatted. I'd still like to grab a Lego cam to work with the rest of the mindstorm stuff.
In a similar vein, here's an article about camera zapping with a laser pointer... neat! Temporary, too.
( Newer Giant Rubber Monster Movies I plan on burning to VCD, over time. )
It's funny... thinking of the painted desert, two years ago... it's like it happened yesterday. I've got a warm feeling inside.. I like that.
Special Bonus Photo - Newton Starring in Jacob's Ladder!
Went to see (you guessed it!) Godzilla 2k with my little brother this evening, (Now that I've seen it more than 3 times, I can see where I would've edited it more, especially at the beginning, for tighter time.) after that, we went out to dinner at big pink, the tasty food source right next door. Yummy Hummus opener, and veggie-burger meal. Bro ate a carno-burger, and we gabbed for a while.
walked along los Olas, talked about stuff, and we looked at the boats and mocked the goofy rich people & drank orange slurpees. His apartment is small, and nicely Spartan, but no worse than my own shoebox. :)
Newton has been quite a good little guy these last couple of weeks, I think he's preferring the bachelor life. (Nobody else in the apt to take my attention from him, I think)

Mmmm… it’s payday at the old Scottobear camp, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m hoping to bug out of this joint early if I can, maybe go see Godzilla or some silly action movie with Robby, and have a nice weekend of Everway, seeing my Brother & Dave, and relaxing with the kitty.
