Dick Martin died. Why does this make me feel bad or nostalgic? Laugh-in was old hat before I was born, but I loved seeing it on Nick at Nite.

Forgot to mention the awesome sub/pizza shop discovered on Saturday. Selby Sub Shoppe - found when we took a wrong turn looking for Thai food. Best mistake we could've made. Larry was especially happy that he didn't have to consume anything involving curry or green beans. He got chicken wings, while BHK, Chris and I gobbled down some white pizza... with red sauce on the side.

So good. Also good was the lemon coconut cake, lemon pie, chocolate mousse pie and the lemon cookies. We seem to have an inordinate amount of lemon fondness in our desserts.

Random statement - I don't think that Andy Kaufman was very funny, even in a meta-way. Entertainingly random, at best.

Current music - The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson
If you were falling, then I would catch you.
You need a light, I'd find a match.

'cause I love the way you say good morning.
And you take me the way I am.
If you are chilly, here take my sweater.
Your head is aching, I'll make it better.

'cause I love the way you call me baby.
And you take me the way I am.

I'd buy you Rogaine if you start losing all your hair.
Sew on patches to all you tear.

'cause I love you more than I could ever promise.
And you take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.

BHK got her first filling today - her personal tooth-care is far superior to mine.

Dreamt last night of being at the Disney lagoon - BHK and I were swimming with giant sharks, eels - no fish was smaller than half my size, most of them were between 30-40 feet long. At one point I was kidnapped, and was told that if I escaped, my entire family would be killed. I grabbed the person and immobilized him by snapping his arms and legs off like dried twigs - when I went to finish him, the police showed up and told me that his brain shouldn't be damaged, as they needed it to ge tthe information on how he would hurt folks. I didn't care to see him live, but I relented - though only if I could pack his head with salt and ash. That was ok with the police, who decapitated him, and put his noggin in a clear tube for analysis... the head was somehow still alive, but as long as he couldn't speak, he couldn't hurt us... some sort of vampire, or lich, maybe?

Adam is home from Haiti - note form MVW

[...]
I just wanted to say thank you for all of your prayers! Adam returned home safely this past Saturday evening. He did have his Dad take him to the Hospital late Saturday evening because he was not feeling well. He had something called "Acute Pharyngitis" but he is feeling much better now!
I finally was able to catch up with him at our friends home, Sven and Mary Thulin's, last night. He promises to catch up with us soon and let us know some of the highlights of his trip.
A few things he did mention last night were:
Haiti has a 4% employment rate. 80% of the people are under the poverty line. 55% make less then a dollar/ day. He went to a town called Petit Goave for 3 days. They had no bathrooms to use, but only the Caribbean Sea for these 200 people. Adam's team helped build a shelter out of tree branches and metal.
He was impressed with the local church they had in the center of the little town. He said "their faith is very strong and their worship is very intense." One of the most important things I heard him say was that "As poor as they were, they were very content considering their situation".
I guess, sometimes we just need to hear these things to remind ourselves of how blessed we really are.[...]

A small group in Santa Fe, New Mexico is claiming that the city is discriminating against them by having wireless networks in public buildings. How are these buildings discriminatory? Simple. These people are allergic to Wi-Fi.

.hot.0524081304.jpg.

pictures - ATW man salutes our fallen heroes, and I complain about the heat. (Not nearly as hot as it was in other locales, so I hear!)

Slept well on the new bed - I wasn't feeling so hot earlier, but a nap helped my back and headache quite a bit. Still a little nauseated, but not too terrible.

We had the in-laws over again and made more franks and beans for dinner, and this time, the bonfire and s'mores were a reality. Added bonus was blowing bubbles.

Opted out of the new town trolley to Pete Green's - The route is cute, and could be a lot of fun - two bits to ride can't be beat. I wouldn't mind just taking it for a little day-tour out and about where BHK and I can relax and take in the scenery. I suspect that the trolley's primary use will be for drinkers getting home safe... I'm all for it if it keeps the drunkies from behind the wheel.

I want to pick up a bike - the in-laws cycled up the beach for breakfast this morning, and I thought it sounded like a fun way to ge tout of the house for a bit.

I still haven't decided what new e-books to put on the PDA - maybe I'll take a breather and stick to pulp-books for a bit.

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers out there!

We took Chris out to breakfast at Whitman's (South County Cafe), and then wandered about the area - scoped out a local hardware store, and then hit the major garden supply place to load up on botanical-type loot. My take of the haul is a big blueberry bush, completely pre-loaded with full berries... they'll be blue in another 60 days or so. A peanut plant, just because. BHK got Okra, patchouli, lemon eucalyptus, creeping jenny, and... some other goodies that don't come immediately to mind.

It's raining like gangbusters now... setting my alarm via the cell phone, because I have my doubts that the evening will go by without a power loss.

Set up Pyecam to go along with Newtcam. About time he got equal treatment video-wise. Pyecam won't be 24/7 though, until we work out a pye-intensive, but safe place to put the laptop unattended for long periods.

Addendum - Fab brew was closed - no muffin or coffee (why close for inventory on a *Sunday*???) - instead we got lunch in Deale. From there we brought the in-laws lemon cake and pie (chirs prefers cake, larry, the latter)... a brief stop off turned into a 4 hour pause of enjoying movies, petting Tigger and eating Chinese food. Not too shabby!

Napoleon Dynamite is not my thing, though. Too much irony, not enough wit for me.

After our eats, we returned home to laze about a bit more - BHK beat me at Balloon Cup, and it grew too late for If Wishes were Fishes.

Short and sweet, dear journal!

Bluegrass festival was fun, save for some folks seated in front of us that preferred to have a loud, beer-fueled discussion about the bands on stage rather than just drinking and listening.

Highlights were - Carrie Hassler & Hard Rain - Carrie has some crazy windswept hair going on, and is sponsored by Moon Pies ! Free Moon Pie at Bluegrass fest? How was there not a riot? Most everyone (save for the drunkie mentioned earlier)

Blue Highway put on the best performance, I think, though Larry says (and I'll buy his expertise on this) that Mountainheart was the most technically able.

Country Gentlemen and Good Deale put on a fine show, as well. Lots of fantastic dobro work, especially.

There's something to be said for groups not big enough for a massive following to team up and bring a whole day of music to the area. A pity Alison Krauss wasn't there - if she had been, I think it'd have just been icing on the cake. I guess that's the price of fame... you can tour on your own.

BHK caught this fellow on camera - a true fan.

Free Online Dating

This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words:

  • sex (2x)
  • poop (1x)

At last, a memory erasing drug that doesn't have a proof rating.

There’s a page over at MySpace that features what they’re cloyingly calling “minisodes,” which are episodes of television shows edited down to six to eight minutes. Having watched an episode of The Facts of Life and one of Silver Spoons, I really wonder what they did with the other eighteen minutes. (via lore )

Was going to the Kwik-E-Mart after work, see also , but instead got a fresh haircut (as did BHK) at Scalped.(we love Margaret and Ami)  Perhaps tomorrow?

Thinking about getting into letter-boxing in addition to geocaching... it seems more quaint and less commercial than what geocaching has become. BHK is more about the hikes than the technology, and I think we both would enjoy just getting out and wandering around a bit.

The Hippie Trail LbNA #: 26192

Placement date: Oct 8 2006
State: Maryland
County: Calvert
Nearest city: Huntingtown
Number of boxes: 2

Clues

King's Landing Park, King's Landing Road (off Huntingtown Rd).
Enter King's Landing Park, and go the parking by the fence on the far side of the pool. Across the fence you can see the sign that says "Explore your Chesapeake". Go to the path to the right of the sign, and take the right fork to the straight path. Almost immediately on the right, you'll see a little sign by the woods that says "Trail" and a large sign with a roof that talks about Orienteering. Veer off the path and enter the woods by the Trail sign. You might want to grab a walking stick for the Flower Box.

Smiley Box- THIS HAS BEEN MOVED
At the start of the first board walk, look to your right. 24 paces away will be a fallen tree with its roots sticking up in the air. Right underneath the roots is the Smiley Box.

Flower Power Box
Continue to follow the path towards the wetlands. Where the path splits left towards the water and a sign that says "A Marsh for All Seasons" go right, away from the water. About 25 paces, look on the left and see 3 very large trees that grew out of one bottom, immediately off the path. Walk up the hill behind it, and see another smaller light colored tree that is about 4 paces behind it, then a large tree about 5 paces behind it at the top of the hill. Flower Power is hidden in the tree at the bottom back side under leaves in a notch in the tree.

Nice day today... BHK and I initially wanted to make some coffee and sip it on the boardwalk in North Beach, but the wind quickly put the kibosh on that... My two caffeinated crack monkey companions soon decided that perhaps a nice drive through Deale might make for a more comfortable Sunday morning activity. (Thanks to the Love Cube's swell environmental controls and roomy tour vehicle status, no doubt.)

Peekatures from the drive (the very last is the boardwalk bay view, before we iced over)- some broken down/abandoned housing and barns, a nifty little food joint, etc. the 'Fabulous brew coffee shop" was a nice little joint to stop and get some scones and a caffeine recharge. Good (bad?) news is that they're opening another Fabulous Brew about 3 minutes away from our house. Will our tassimo survive? as always, hover for a minor description, or clicken to embiggen.

rip, mr rogers wacky shed gargoyles and mexican mondays! swan thingies rickety boathouse rickety boathouse2 star barn tobacco leaner view from the point boardwalk view - north beach

On the way to dropping Tina off, we noticed a lot of activity at the volunteer fire department. (the semi-decapitated gnome: semi-decapitated gnome at tina's is on Tina's neighbor's steps, as it has for a year. Each neighbor is supposed to take turns and pass the gnome off to the next person in line to mow as a bait to get him off the porch, but this neighbor would rather keep a broken lawn ornament than do his part.)

The admission to the dog show was free, but there were all sorts of opportunities to help support the local SPCA, no chains, disabled animals and adoptions... though I confess that the primary allure was wiener dog races (videos to follow once uploaded to google). Oddly, there were belly dancers, as well... but I didn't grasp the connection between them and animal assists.
