Just as FYI - the prior entry was that of a pair of clowns being sucked into a pneumatic tube.

Was late to the Metro this morning, so BHK rolled me all the way in - we had time to get a hot chocolate and a cinnamon cake, one or both of which made us both a little on the ill side come 10:30/11am. Last strike for that place - just as well, since *$ is a real money sink, and the tassimo makes better coffee and hot chocolate.

Work was steady today - and I'm brushing up on my Bash shell script powers - perl wasn't the way to go on one of my projects, it seems. I'm developing new skills in GPG as well, out of necessity.

Lunch of veggie "turkey" roast on pumpernickel with gouda and spicy mustard did just the trick. root veggies make me happy too. Pumpkin pie yogurt is still weird, but November appropriate. Banana was out of sync, but yummy.

Recently St. Lucie County in Florida announced that it has teamed up with Geoplasma to develop the United States' first plasma gasification plant. The plant will use super-hot 10,000 degree Fahrenheit plasma to effectively vaporize 1,500 tons of trash each day, which in turn spins turbines to generate 60MW of electricity — enough to power 50,000 homes!

- Is it wrong to think that it would be the source of a really perfect crime? What a solid way to dispose of a body, evidence, etc...

Topps announced that "WizKids will immediately cease operations and discontinue its product lines."

I guess that means no new Pirates, but it looks like Heroclix will survive.

Just heard about the gaming thing up at Johns Hopkins is happening this weekend. Maybe I can wrangle swinging by there after going to lunch at paper moon with BHK and Alice. If anyone is in the area and of a mind, maybe we could have a little visit, too. I wanted to maybe get a little game time in with Cath and Haas, but schedules didn't work out for us - maybe this is a happy medium. Note to self, send a facebook invite.

Maybe BHK and I will get in a round of GURPS space? (noon to 5 - likely not. Lunch date, and all) Or at least a game of chrononauts or something in freeplay time. Maybe I should bring Hive or something small and portable to play..I wouldn't mind a quick game of werewolf or chez geek.

Let's see - what's new?

Well, Shaun W came over for supper with BHK and me - veggie/stuffed cabbage, mac & cheese, and a ton of snacks.

Played -

Monty Python Fluxx - Cute game, I like it! Shaun Won.

Early American Chrononauts - A classic - BHK won.

The a-MAZE-ing labyrinth - BHK won, yet again.

Me, I got a good dinner and some fun chitty-chat time with folks. I'm good :)

Oh yeah, and Obama swept the presidential election! Good on you, Big O! He's got a lot of work ahead of him - I hope he's up to the task!

We may make game night a semi-regular occurrence, but I can't do the past 11pm thing on a "school night". Staying up late for the election was a special circumstance, and I'm glad I did.

Additional - looks like it's time for a new power supply for D1000y ( http://help-site.com/Hardware/Computers/Desktops/HP/Pavilion_d1000/Pavilion_d1000y/ ) . While I was dressing for work this morning, BHK called me over to have a whiff - the poor guy smells like burning christmas tree lights. I rather hope it's just the PSU - and nothing else major. Until a fix or replace, surfing from pyecam lappie, I guess!

Current mood - Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc

Trimmed the 'stache to less sleazy-looking levels, but the whole goatee is coming back or I'm cutting it all off.

After work yesterday, BHK and I met with Adam and Eric for dinner at Hard times cafe. It was $4.99 chili mac night, so I was all about that. BHK and Adam got the chili dogs, and Eric took the healthy high road with grilled chicken sammich.

we spent an hour or two talking about politics, who is voting for what and why - I hope Adam finds his voters reg card. Eric seems to be allying with the 'phants, while BHK and I are leaning a bit more toward the 'keys. It was all civil, though, and we had a good time ribbing one another.

Played a smidgen more of fallout 3 last night... got gunned down severely while working under bhk's guidance.

NOT a game for kids... pretty graphic when you shoot a guy in the head - and a lot of dubious morality.

Right now I'm playing the high karma path... being nice, helping out. I can see going back and wiping out the town, though, later, just to watch it go up in a mushroom cloud.

Not going to do the trick-or-treater thing tonight - instead, we're off after work to the Edgar Allan Poe grave and memorial site in Baltimore for a little walk around the necropolis, and have a generally spooky time.

Got epidural (ouch.), appointment with cardio, met with back doc, got spore, Mexican food and maggie moo's.

Wal-mart drew the last straw, and is now on the official boycott list - poor service plus bad business practices in the pharmacy.

While BHK was reading bergdorf blonds, I played spore - somehow I can't use the critter I created in the demo creator in a spore game -still investigating why that is.

Went grocery shopping - Cranberry sierra mist is back and I  got creme de menthe altoids - sad to see the mandarin orange mist gone.

As for walkies - we've laid out a reward plan - we have a bundle of space-critter buttons, and for each goal, we get an additional "merit badge" - after we get up to distance, it'll be repetition. My goal is 5 miles a walk, three walks a week.

So far -

5 badges each--earned

2 after 4x 2 mile walks

3 after 3x 3 mile walks

4 after 2x 4 mile walks

So... a nice little reprieve from Gustav for New Orleans. I hope everyone (Louisiana, Florida, and everywhere else) continues to dodge Hanna, Ike and Josephine. Note 3 years ago today, below.

The DNC homepage makes no mention of John McCain. The RNC page has a ton of attacks on Obama and Biden. That's something. Not sure what, but it's something.

BHK put me on to Disaster Dioramas - I'm partial to the Hindenburg, but I suspect that she's more into the Titanic.

Tonight we went to Ledos, and got the greasiest white pizza ever. Tummy trouble is likely to follow. we didn't bother keeping half of it. I hate wasting money and food - I suspect it'll take a lot for us to return there. Got maggie moo's as a after yuck treat - I got mint chocolate chip with chocolate sprinkles and brownie bits - BHK got carrot cake ice cream with peanut butter sauce. It was pretty good, if odd. I've got a love-creeped out relationship with cake-batter flavored ice cream.

Added bonus was at the photography center next door - we saw an orange kitten (about 3 mos) named Charlie playing with his humans... it was very adorable, and we got to talk to the family a bit. BHK thinks it might be time to get a portrait with the lads... though I'm not sure how well-behaved Newton would be for sit-down pictures. Pye is mellow enough, but it is a strange and new environment.

I forgot to mention that on Saturday we went to Leonardtown - skipped witch rock this time, and instead visited a few nifty bookstores - including one made from an old bar. I can't remember the name but it was a nifty old-school mass of books just reaching back into the far back - also went back to White rabbit and got BHK a Raven Puppet to go with her Edgar Allan Poe, a yarn store (Crazy for Ewe ) with a hostess who was very nice and kept staring at BHK's lime-vanilla ice, a model train shop and the do-dah deli... later, we went to Aardvark to pick up Pentago - BHK beat me 5-2... a sound victory indeed.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BHK!!

Allison's B'day! I buttered her nose while she was distracted by playing audiosurf. (Got it for $5 this last weekend.) I was a little disappointed that my mp3 of Christopher Walken reciting Poe's "The Raven" was so linear.

As a gift / party-favor to all for BHK's day - A GAZILLION Free to print and play games.

Oh BGG, how I thank the Internets you're there.

If you're not into free games, (or even if you are, dear journal) here's a stop-motion zombie movie called Chainsaw Maid. Best zombie film this year. (from the same people who did Bloody Date )

No Lebanese Taverna Tonight - Falafel time must wait - instead we hit Gallo's Deli - food is still pretty good. Not as superior as Selby, but only a block or two from the house. BHK opened the remainder for her loot tonight.

I got her an assortment of little trinket-treats - My faves were earring-studs in the style of mexican sugar skulls and a bottlecap pin with a pirate inside saying ARG in letter beads.... but I'm partial to things skully. I need to take a picture of BHK's loot pile - other items were a lovey charm, a ouija board pin, and a horde of coupons to do / get things, from getting me in a good mood to a movie night with no snarky comments. (2 nights, if neither are Jane Austen-related).

The subject answers with closed eyes all questions that are put to him, and is completely insensible. The pathologic state brings with it a kind of prophetic gift and doublesight. Furthermore he loses his will and is completely under the control of another. On returning to himself he remembers nothing of what he has done. -Excelsior Cottager, August 25, 1888.

Two years ago today I arrived in Maryland and was picked up at the airport by BHK. Pretty much a life-changing experience for me. Now, we've been married, I've been up here at the same gig for over a year, and most of the dust has settled in our home.

Despite a few stresses, I love it here, and would never want to be far from BHK's side. Newton and Pye are pretty great pals, with no real signs of antagonism between them. Work has its difficult moments, but for the most part, it's a very good gig. I can honestly say that BHK has been nothing but wonderful, supportive and loving the entire time.

At the moment, we're browsing the idea of looking at houses... we may or may not stick with the one we're in now. The possibilities are improvement, knock this one down and rebuild from the ground up, or hit a third location. All options seem equal right now.

BHK brings me so much joy and happiness... even when I'm feeling low or hurt, she pulls me up and keeps me going. The marriage proposal and response was certainly the best thing to happen in my life for a long, long time. I feel happy knowing that I'll be spending the rest of my life with her, through thick and thin.

I am thankful to Allison for making my world a better place. Everything that I perceive is a bit more wonderful because of her presence.

Today, we got up a bit later - in-laws came over to hang out. Chris and BHK went through BHK's jewelry box... she's got a lot of funky stuff in there, all of which is pretty dang keen. BHK did her best to keep her mother from acting the magpie and stealing sparkles, but it looks like a few items have floated back over to the mama-nest. We'll have to swing over there in a month to liberate some of them back. Meanwhile, Larry and I sat in the office area, and talked about his life on the farm, dogs, cats, hunting and so on. It was a nice bit of gab from Larry, who is normally very quiet... he everyone else first dibs on the conversation, usually.

We were going to do Korean BBQ for lunch, but that got ruled out in favor of another trip to the Selby Sub Shoppe. BHK and larry split a half pepperoni/half meatball pizza, Chris got a big ol' burger, and I got a black bean burger sub... it was all delicious, as usual.

We took the scenic route back, and picked out bits of ragweed, marsh mallow, and assorted sea grasses while taking in all the houses out back between Annapolis and home - some are really magnificent.

First few games on audiosurf - a fun little game that uses your music (or streaming audio) to build a racecourse to place klax-dr mario sort of brick building. Website explains it better, or the wiki here - it was on sale for $5 today, so we snagged it after playing the demo.

An AP story about the thousands of voting machines gathering dust in warehouses across the country after states such as California, Ohio, and Florida have banned their use. Many of these machines cost $3.5K to $5K each. Local election boards are struggling to find ways to recover any of the cost of the machines, or even to recycle them. The picture in Ohio is the most confusing, as multiple court cases limit the state's options and result in a situation in which the discredited machines will nevertheless be used in the presidential election coming up in November. The state's new (Democratic) attorney general has just issued a rule banning the practice of election workers taking the machines home with them the night before elections.

Dan sent us a pile of stuff after cleaning out his guest room. A boatload of books, a few dvd's:Batman Begins, King Kong - the newest one, Quest for Fire, Razor's Edge, Life aquatic - and a copy of Valley of the Mammoths - looks to be a good game, but he couldn't play it at the school's game/SciFi club due to some of the caroon cavemen having visible genitalia. (He offered to draw clothes on them with a sharpie, but the students prefer Catan and Aquarius anyway.

His loss is our gain!

To me, tabletop games are a form of entertainment; I play to play, not play to win. I prefer light games that are amusing in and of themselves, games that are pleasing to play and offer something besides the chance to earn victory. Sometimes I'm in the mood to sit back and watch math at work, sometimes I just want to push pawns around and chuck some dice, and sometimes I want to claw my way to the top of the heap. Abstracts, beer-and-pretzels, RPG, wargames... I'm not picky, so long as it's a fun ride.

I just found out that x1650 is the bare minimum of game cards for the next generation of goodies coming out this year. I gout rid of the x1600 just in the nick of time, it seems! I don't want anything to make it hard to run spore or fallout 3. (Or ghostbusters, when it someday comes out. )

Random Scotto factoid - I can chug soda or beer at an alarming rate. That is part of why I don't drink beer with any regularity.. it takes more than one to even begin to quench my thirst.

I sorta-kinda want to live in a styrofoam dome home. (at least as a little place or cabin out in the wilderness somewhere as a second home.)

I'm glad Aardvark is looking out for us! May hang out with Mike & Tara sometime - brought 'em veggies from the garden - pickle salad recipes.

Went to the other Mexico restaurant... *that's* where the chef went! Food was great, and the decor was really sweet, too. It's usually a 7-8 at the other place, it was maybe a 8-9 at this location - a little hard to find from the road... there's another Mexican restaurant coming up on the corner - I fear that might mean trouble for Mexico's Lusby site.

I just realized something about German boardgames. Seldom do you see dice. Cards are drawn and are sometimes used as randomizers, but you can still play the odds a bit - it's rare to roll the ol' bones. I wonder why?

Follow up on the mayor's "drug raid / dog shooting" indecent. He's completely innocent, it seems. Prince George's County Police really fouled up, in my opinion. That and the armed car chase through my neighborhood (well outside PG county jurisdiction) only adds to my problem with that organization. Some sort of Internal Affairs review needs to be done... but it seems unlikely.

"The mayor's counsel also disputes authorities claims that they killed the dogs, Chase and Payton, because one of the dogs was coming at officers. Maloney says one dog was running away and the other was shot some distance from the front door.

Still, county law enforcement officials say they do not owe the Calvo's an apology. Chief High defended the officers actions, but expressed regret over the death of the dogs."

As someone that's been at swat team gunpoint more than once... (06/02/2001 when my landlord went loopy with his guns over his face cancer and 02/24/2004 once when my bro committed "grand theft boat".) - I can honestly say that sometimes the police has good reason to hold someone under potential deadly force. I'm thankful that neither I nor Newton were shot

Well, bro is right on the border of the 44 violation points rule. (he has exactly 44 points)(pdf info ) If convicted of all of his charges, he could either do under a year in county jail, or over a year in state prison.

from here -

If total points are equal to or less than 44, the lowest permissible sentence is a non-state prison sanction (however state prison up to the statutory maximum can be imposed).

If total points exceed 44, the minimum sentence is established by taking the total point value subtracting 28 and decreasing the remaining value by 25%. This end result value is the lowest permissible prison sentence in months.

This means than only those offenders scoring 44 or less points may receive a non- state prison sanction under the code. All others must receive a state prison sanction, absent downward departure from this structure. The threshold under the guidelines for mandatory prison incarceration was 52 points.

and from here

The magic number is 44: Anyone scoring above 44 points "must" be sentenced to state prison under the Code. However, the plea bargaining process can a) reduce the number of counts charged, b) have an agreement not to score certain items, c) substitute charges, d) reduce the actual count charged, or e) several other creative techniques can be used to get someone sentenced to a non-incarcerative sentence. Note the departure grounds under Rule 3.992(b), but also note the actual language of the "Sentence Computation" because someone charged with a felony can be sentenced to state prison even if the score fewer than 44 points. For this reason, felony cases are always very serious legal matters.

For his Faces of Evil project, Hans Weishäupl made composite photographs of the world's worst dictators by photographing hundreds of people in each dictator's country and stitching them together. The results are a bit disturbing, particularly when viewing very large, clear, vibrant color photos of long-dead monsters like Stalin or Hitler. (via conscientious)

Got my shots - minor reaction, but nothing tragic.

Met up with the in-laws, and headed to selby sub shoppe - pizza for all, I got a black bean burger and fries. Tasty as all get out!

We planned on heading to Annapolis after to go see Wall-E, but instead we stopped at Toys-R-Us, and picked up Marvel Heroscape and Good Ol' Scrabble.

Heroscape is cute.. sort of like heroclix or D&D miniatures. The fun thing is that it's cross-genre, so you can have cowboys shooting at zombies, fighting robots, ninjas, superheroes and cavemen all on the same board. (and if you like, you can make custom cards for units very easily - so you can have spongebob fighting a paperclip, if you want.) Basic rules are quick and easy... advanced rules look more fun, and maybe another moment or two to learn.

BHK and I opted to head back home after getting our loot - there was a storm brewing... even tornado warning, and we wanted to be curled up at home anyhow.
0802081841.jpg
We swung by the ATW man - done up as a prospector - I'll try to get better photos of him later.

Watched some tube, lounged, and the in-laws came over - we half watched Micheal Clayton while we played scrabble - Chris dominated.. and she was half asleep. I'd hate to think of what sort of opponant she's make at full mental charge. Chris scored 258 to my 247 and BHK's 162 - and Chris laid all of her letters down first turn... accounting for 63 of those points! I was feeling a little sour-grapey, but not too much... our dictionary is a bit on the lightweight side... time to get something unabridged. The plus size was that it caused me to rethink words I'd use in a pinch... like "QI", but instead, items that are in more everyday language.

The folks went home, but BHK was still up for a wordgame, so we went with another - BHK dominated me at upwords - beat me by more than 40 points.

My brain is melted a bit.. until later, dear journal!

Upgrading the computer in the newtcam room at home - ordered 2 GB more ram for my system (Crucial 2GB Kit (2 x 1GB) DDR2 PC2-4200 UNBUFFERED NON-ECC 240-PIN DIMM, to be specific) -ups my desktop box to a proper 4 gig for less han $50, and a new video card - (EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB DDR3 Superclocked Edition PCI-Express Graphics Card (512-P3-N802-AR) - got it for less than half what it usally costs - $300 card for $160, less anothera $20 rebate for a total of $140

Super saver shipping means possibly slower send times, but the price was right, and I don't need it super soon.. I can wait a week or two.

SWAT team kills 2 dogs in raid on Md. mayor's home

BERWYN HEIGHTS, Md. — A SWAT team raided the home of a Washington, D.C.-area mayor, killing his two black Labrador retrievers and seizing an unopened package of marijuana delivered there.

Prince George's County Police said Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo brought a 32-pound package of marijuana into his home that had been delivered by officers posing as delivery men. The Tuesday evening raid was conducted by county police narcotics officers and a sheriff's office SWAT Team.

The package was addressed to Calvo's wife, Trinity Tomsic. His mother-in-law had asked the supposed delivery men to leave the package outside. Calvo has not been charged, though police said he, his wife and his mother-in-law are "persons of interest" in an ongoing investigation.

"We never opened the box. We have nothing to do with this box," Calvo said.

Sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Mario Ellis says deputies "apparently felt threatened" when they shot the dogs.

Calvo said officers entered about 7:30 p.m., first shooting 7-year-old Payton. They then pursued 4-year-old Chase, who ran away and was shot by police from behind, he said.

Calvo said he doesn't have any idea how the package ended up at his house. He called the raid "the most traumatic experience" of his life.

Calvo, who called his town "Mayberry inside the Capital Beltway," gets a small stipend as mayor and works at the SEED Foundation, a nonprofit that runs public boarding schools for at-risk students. His wife works as a state finance officer.

"These were two beautiful black Labradors who were well-known in the community. We walked them twice a day; little kids knew their names and would come up to them and pet them," he said.

So... the police brought drugs to the house, and then raided him... but then didn't arrest or press any charges? They *did* however kill his two dogs.

Tooth is still giving me minor fits. Antibiotic seems to be taking it down, though. It was a little hard to chew supper, but it was quite tasty.

BHK went thrifting yesterday with Tina - got some good loot - a few chick-lit books for herself, a kepler and his mom on witch trial book for me, along with a white dress shirt, also for me - some brand new kitchen knives. (as opposed to what... bathroom knives? office knives?)

Additionally, when she got my antibiotics at the drugstore, she picked me up yellow and red canisters of drying model clay. could be handy to make some game pieces, or just silly fun sculptures and items. It'll be good practice for future sculpey stuff.

Seeing BQ.. erm, SaH reminded me that BHK and I are long overdue for a meal at the vegetable garden. Rockville isn't all that far away and despite what R.E.M. says, I could hit the Micro Center up there, too. I'd also like to visit Yuan Fu, which was our alternate plan if VG was closed.

I guess that since I do crab and shrimp that I'm more of a pescetarian than a true veggie.

One of the most nifty game ideas in a long time - levelhead - it uses a hand-held solid-plastic cube as its only interface. On-screen it appears each face of the cube contains a little room, each of which are logically connected by doors. In one of these rooms is a character. By tilting the cube the player directs this character from room to room in an effort to find the exit.

check out the video demo to get a good idea how it works.

Also - it looks like the Ghostbusters game is in a bit of trouble... may not get released - at least for a while. It looks good, and the chance for another year of development might even make it worth the wait.

More from the garden. Pumpkin, squash, a ton of white eggplant, some skinny purple and green eggplant, tomato and cucumber. Nice mix of colors in the back yard!

Matt Thompson has some advice for you: stop buying cheap-ish pseudo-generic drugs from Walgreens, Rite-Aid, and Duane Reade and start buying really cheap true generics.

As you might know, Benadryl (available at Walgreens.com for $5.29 for a box of 24 capsules) and Wal-dryl ($3.99 / 24 capsules) are otherwise known as "25 mg. of diphenhydramine HCI." Compare [with the true generic available at Amazon]. Yes, that is 400 tablets containing 25 mg. of diphenhydramine HCI, for about $10 when you factor in shipping.

Heed his words. Here's 300 tablets of generic Claritin for $11.00, 100 tablets of generic Zyrtec for $6.99, 240 tablets of generic Zantac, 1000 capsules of generic Benadryl for $20.34, 1000 tablets of generic Advil for $11.70, and 1000 caplets of generic Tylenol for $13.91.

Looks like I'm going on a trip to Port of Baltimore either Thursday or Friday next week! I'll be in the field that day from 9:30ish to 2:30ish, give or take.

That's a good thing... my port knowledge could use a little visual update - my last trip through Port Everglades was years ago.

Polished off the Tim Powers fault lines stuff I'd been meaning to read again... I may have to get back to Fluke and polish it off this week!

Big salad and a side sammich for dinner tonight... those quick pickles are lasting a long time!

Woke up slowly, played a bit with Garry's Mod, which I find to be hilarious, went over to the in-laws for hanging out listening to the Eagles and O.A.R. with Adam and the gang, and then we had hot dogs, quick pickles, chips and etc for tasty happy fun time.

The quick pickles were from our garden -
today's harvest <FW>

The cukes were a little stubby, but BHK's mandolin made short work of slicing them.

BHK and Larry took the Element up to the mechanic for repairs - It'll be out of service for 10 days, getting the windshield fixed and the hood / bumper dents removed. The trees still haven't been removed form our yard yet, but the time is approaching to do so. We've got the green ford as a loaner until the element comes back.

Planning for 3 big events coming up next month - BHK birthday, Larry's Birthday, and Larry & Chris's wedding anniversary. (not in that order.)

Larry's a tricky one - I suspect that a trip to see Good Deale Bluegrass (though Chris doesn't want to go) would be the best gift for him. New Neil Diamond album out, too. There's the Christmas Show at the Ram's Head... but that's usually reserved as a Christmas Present. Maybe at the Bluegrass show in Deale.

Larry and Chris is easy - a card and food.

I'm not going to spill any beans about BHK's b'day, as she reads this... and I want it to be a surprise. I'll let you know what happens later, dear journal.

BHK got back comfortably - we watched an episode of Fawlty Towers, and one of Burn Notice - now it's time for bed!

Until later, dear journal!

Let's see... What'd we do today? Stream of thought - more so than usual.

Started out late to get shots... but just as well... the doctor was late, too... and we'd have had to wait, regardless. I beat BHK at Yahtzee 2x, she got me once, while we hung out. "Good Boy Lollipop" of the day was Cherry Cola. Item of note - I think of the weekly lollipops I get from the doc... I may've eaten 3. The rest are in a bag... at this rate, we may have Halloween candy worked out... not that I'd unload tiny lollipops on trick or treaters. Actually, I'd like to bail on the trick or treaters this year, and take Allison on a ghost tour, or hit a Halloween party... or even stay in upstairs, and watch scary movies with all of our lights out.

Anyhow, back to today. After the doc, we had lunch at Mexico Restaurant - I was so hungry that no doggie bag was required. A rare occurrence... I polished off BHK's last cheese enchilada, on top of my potato flauta thingums. The enchilada sauce there is fantastic, but variable, depending on the chef on duty.

From there we went to Aardvark, and Chatted with Mike and the gang... we missed seeing Tara this time out. One of his employees was very fun to talk to, and is interested in getting BHK and I to try out D&D miniatures gaming.. we have the freebie that was given out, and it looks like a hoot. I was admiring his Xorn and Landshark figures.. very meta, as I think that they started out as random plastic toys... If there had been a owlbear or a rust monster, I'd have been sure.

We picked up Tsuro, a few generic wooden pawns of different colors (red, black, white, green, a light and a slightly darker natural wood colors), and Issue #3 of Marvel Fairy tales. It's funny to me that BHK gets more comics through my drawer there than I do... I lean to trade paperbacks rather than singles these days. The Fairy tales series is cute. Each book is pretty self-contained.

Foolishly forgot to get ice cream at Aardvark, and cold stone creamery was out, so chik-fil-a milkshake did the trick. BHK got a tiny triplet of chicken strips... they were so good that she decided that she'd like those on a platter for her birthday. (She said "instead of a cake", but heck if anyone I know is going to not have a cake without good reason!)

Swung by the mailbox, got our netflix, and then got home, and unpacked our goodies, popped some corn, and got ready to play some Tsuro while watching Machine Girl. The movie has a great trailer, but the film itself doesn't carry itself very well... we stopped watching about 20-30 minutes in. We swapped it out for Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. It's cute for a chick flick - good excuse for 4 stories in one movie, I preferred the filmmaker's tale over the others.

As for our Tsuro games - 1 tie, bhk beat me twice. I think that it'll be a lot more random, and less strategic (it's really only light strategy - each game takes about 15 minutes) with more players.. the pieces are easy on the eyes, and the rules were a little unclear about the dragon tile. All the dragon tile does is tell who got to the bottom of the draw pile, so when cards come back, they get first draw. You can really just toss out the dragon tile, and the game would be the same... maybe it's better to remind folks when 8 people are playing - as they are knocked out, the tiles they held go back into the draw.

Newton and Pye did a terribly cute nose-kiss while we watched the movie. I'm very happy that they're so social with each other.

So, BHK won the games day by 3 victories to my 2 victories and one tie game. Nicely Matched.

After Sisterhood, we puttered watching the tube a bit... but now it's time to head to snoozetown. Until later, dear journal.

Made plans this morning before work to take BHK on a date to The Bengies Drive-in tomorrow night. Triple feature of Kung-fu Panda, Dark Knight and Get Smart.

From the site -
Warner Brothers has graciously agreed to send us a LARGE FORMAT print for our 52 by 120 foot screen (the Biggest in the USA) so we do not have to worry about the run coinciding with the full moon that occurs on that opening night.

It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun - I hope it cools down a bit after dark - projected to be 94F tomorrow during the day. I'm going to have to make sure that I change out of my work duds and into some comfy play clothes for our date! Unfortunately, cameras are forbidden, due to movie paranoia about piracy, but maybe I can click off a few pics of the place via cellphone.

Lots of Veggie options at the snack bar... Hey, if we're going to be there for 6+ hours after work, I'll be eating something for supper. I'm already earmarking a meatless egg roll and a pretzel with mustard for me! BHK will no doubt grab herself a corn dog. They sell "food permits" to bring your won stuff in, too... I just might do that, but the snack bar is pretty reasonably priced, and I'd like to support the theater. Back when I was Managing the Cobb 23 theater at Sawgrass Mills (Now a Regal, it seems) that was where *all* the money came from. The cost to lease the movies was more than we made in admissions.

That was during a period when I was either homeless or mooching Danny's guest room.

Speaking of the snack bar (they sell mosquito repellent) Looks like the Mosquito addition to Hive will be coming in next month to Aardvark ! (I was thinking about making homemade ones... and may still do something like it for other custom critters... we need a dragonfly, lightning bug and a ladybug, I think.)

Come to think of it, we could brig hive, or a card game to play if we wanted to to the drive in!

I wonder if they can do current format 3-d movies at the drive in? I imagine it'd be tough to implement non-color based 3-d.. and on the 3-d note - 2 current games that pop in 3d thay I'd like to try before I buy - Pipeline and Aapep.

Anyhow, long story short, date night at the the drive in tomorrow!! Hoody-hoo!

Another week draws to a close. I forgot to mention yesterday that we went to the Octagon on the way home from work to pick up an egg roll for bhk (and spring rolls for non-pork me) - I don't know why folks are so leery of the place - it's as clean as anywhere else - much better than mall chinese food.

I do like that it's a "Fried Chicken / Chinese Food / Liquor Store". (note to self- add it to yelp)

Sometimes I catch myself, looking at some folks I've tripped over on the internet, and want to tell 'em to stop being creeps. But for them, that's why there is an internet... because if they acted like that in the flesh, they'd be in an ICU somewhere, or worse.

Creative editing is a fine thing. Beeping out the word count makes for a very different seeming song. Sesame Street's The Count sings about how he loves to BLEEP
