Jan. 14th, 2009 08:12 pmStill feeling gut-lousy - went to the dentist for a followup. Dreamt unhappily that I was lost in the mall, BHK took off in the Love cube, and I had to climb a giant couch to make it outside. BHK had a nightmare about me power-washing the kitchen, and her in it, too.
Had a calzone - not sure if it helped or not, but it's the first really palpable food substance in days.
Started reading The 13 and 1/2 lives of Captain Bluebear about 100 pages in, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It has a Munchausen vibe to it that I dig.

Dec. 21st, 2008 08:38 pmNewt and Pye have been together for 2 years now. They've blended well. They aren't too aggressive with one another, though they do play rough.
Got an earache last night, I think it's an infection via the crown. Contacted Dr. Wolf, we'll see what he advises.
Went to the in-laws this morning (well, about noontime) for some Breakfast - Larry Poached some eggs, and grilled up some bacon, Chris made crab salad. All served on Xmas English muffins. (Do they call muffins something else in England, and "English muffins" just muffins?)
After eating, we watched Superhero move and I got a call from the Momster - our holiday goodies arrived in her mailbox yesterday. Superhero Movie was Basically a parody of Spider-man, plus a few cameos and Leslie Neilson nonsense.
Larry showed me how to make Preacher cookies - chocolate/oatmeal goodies, with no flour in 'em. Closer to Fudge than a cookie, really.
Good stuff - I've got to practice making these, I think... they're easy, but are good eats.
BHK and I headed home early for some rest - watch some old Christmas episodes of night Court and Wings - I pretty much just Vegged out all weekend.
I'm looking forward to a nice long winter's nap after Tuesday - Vacation (but on-call) from 12/24-01/04!
A few items need to be worked on - biggest ones are file comparing encryption, getting a slacker customer to get on the new system from the old (before the old shuts down totally) and a system map of our network that is up to date.
Maybe a little vitamin B-12 will pick me up. Until later, dear journal!

More Flurries this morning - I've been having a rough time lately with my back and the cold, but it's getting a bit better as I go.
Moodwise, I've been feeling pretty down here and there for the last month or so - Stress, back issues, and some poor gut-level stuff. I'm working on feeling better about things - I just have to remind myself that there is a positive destination in sight. I'm glad that BHK and the kitties are on my team, and that my teeth are all fixed.
Some good things ahead - 4-day weekend for Thanksgiving, Christmas is coming, Computer seems to be working well.
BHK and I have made some headway with new friends - The Manspergers and Shaun W. It's always nice to meet nice people and goof with them. Alice came out of the woodwork, and we spent the day with her at the museum after a spot of lunch at papermoon.
One or two of our other friends have dwindled into the mists recently - Who knows if we'll get a chance to hang out for the holiday(s) in the next month or so? I haven't really seen hide nor hair of Tina or Cyn - maybe BHK and I can lure some folks (new or old) up to Gina's Cantina for some snackies sometime soon.
Speaking of snackies - BHK made some pea soup, with a side of boca burger sammich (replay of yesterday's foodies).... good stuff, just right for the weather today. I'd best get on that.

The purple truck should be all better tomorrow - the issue was a timing chip that just failed - no "evil parking lot type" stole the catalytic converter, or fan belt. Entropy was the culprit.

Sep. 7th, 2008 10:01 pmBetter Walkies today - cooler weather - lady with cats in a screened in stroller (Abby and Gabby - her name was Merle), spent much of the day at home.
Adam paid a visit, brought Chinese food. Played some Wii / lego star wars, took it easy.
Additionally, we saw the polydactyl cats who were more than friendly and lovable - they flop over and show belly for petting as soon as we get within 10 feet of them. clicks embiggen as always. I think the white belly is pregnant. Are mitten-footed cats just more friendly? I seem to recall the ones in the Keys to be especially lovey, too.

Thankfully, my tooth isn't being as bothersome as it was last week - the trip to Dr. Wolf seems ot have done the temporary trick - I go in for a temp crown the top of september, and two weeks after that, I get a permanent one.

Went to the Walgreens and I got BHK a pedegg - foot callous remover and orange zester, apparently. I think it's a pretty surreal device, and is more surreal to me en espanol.
Watched latest Psych and Dragon's Den... that's about it!

I just realized something about German boardgames. Seldom do you see dice. Cards are drawn and are sometimes used as randomizers, but you can still play the odds a bit - it's rare to roll the ol' bones. I wonder why?
Bengie's is showing Wall-E, Dark knight and step brothers... I don't think that I care to see Dark knight again, so it looks like we'll wait another week or so before our return trip to the drive-in.
Follow up on the mayor's "drug raid / dog shooting" indecent. He's completely innocent, it seems. Prince George's County Police really fouled up, in my opinion. That and the armed car chase through my neighborhood (well outside PG county jurisdiction) only adds to my problem with that organization. Some sort of Internal Affairs review needs to be done... but it seems unlikely.

(06/02/2001 when my landlord went loopy with his guns over his face cancer and 02/24/2004 once when my bro committed "grand theft boat".) - I can honestly say that sometimes the police has good reason to hold someone under potential deadly force. Tooth is definitely damaged - filling and tooth itself have pulled apart, and the tooth portion is loose. we'll see what happens tomorrow. Pain is ok - still only at medium headache level.
BHK and I have really gotten into following the blogs of a few WUSA9's folks - Kim Martucci and Angie Goff, specifically. They're trapped in a horrible blogging software called pluck, but once past that, it's really fun to see folks that are brand new at the whole on-line journal thing... and puts a more interactive and social face on folks you normally only get to see in a one-way medium of TV. I've mentioned both Kim and Angie before once or twice, and they both seem to be swell people.
ok, last timeline for the upgrade until they get here, or unless they're late.

Jul. 31st, 2008 10:18 pmTooth is still giving me minor fits. Antibiotic seems to be taking it down, though. It was a little hard to chew supper, but it was quite tasty.
BHK went thrifting yesterday with Tina - got some good loot - a few chick-lit books for herself, a kepler and his mom on witch trial book for me, along with a white dress shirt, also for me - some brand new kitchen knives. (as opposed to what... bathroom knives? office knives?)
Additionally, when she got my antibiotics at the drugstore, she picked me up yellow and red canisters of drying model clay. could be handy to make some game pieces, or just silly fun sculptures and items. It'll be good practice for future sculpey stuff.
Seeing BQ.. erm, SaH reminded me that BHK and I are long overdue for a meal at the vegetable garden. Rockville isn't all that far away and despite what R.E.M. says, I could hit the Micro Center up there, too. I'd also like to visit Yuan Fu, which was our alternate plan if VG was closed.
I guess that since I do crab and shrimp that I'm more of a pescetarian than a true veggie.
One of the most nifty game ideas in a long time - levelhead - it uses a hand-held solid-plastic cube as its only interface. On-screen it appears each face of the cube contains a little room, each of which are logically connected by doors. In one of these rooms is a character. By tilting the cube the player directs this character from room to room in an effort to find the exit.
check out the video demo to get a good idea how it works.
Also - it looks like the Ghostbusters game is in a bit of trouble... may not get released - at least for a while. It looks good, and the chance for another year of development might even make it worth the wait.

Oh My Goff! -Emmy award winner Angie Goff profiled me, the kitties and Alan & JC's pup Chae on her blog entry today ! (Picture here from the entry... eek and awesome. BHK is going to tease me mercilessly - She'd better watch it, or she'll get She-Ra'ed.) The WUSA9 team all have blogs it seems, and the bulk of them are very entertaining!Called Dr. Wolfe - cracked my back tooth, the one with the composite filling. I'm taking antibiotics starting tonight, and I'll be seeing him in a week for a fix-up. It only hurt a wee bit yesterday, but has progressed to headache level annoyance now. I wonder if the tooth will come out of my noggin before thursday... it feels a bit loose.

Got a postcard from the bro. He sounds better when he's sobered up. I'll be writing him sometime between tomorrow night and this weekend. It breaks my heart every time I think of him...
