Danny was a *huge* help when it came to the move. I couldn't have done it without him. He is truly master of all things. (according to his fortune cookie, anyhow.)
Found out the my last living Grandmother (Momster's Momster) is in hospice now. She's deteriorated quite rapidly, and they don't know if it'll be two months or two weeks. She's not in any pain, and seems to be at peace. Her lucidity is variable.. she was sounding good last week, and recognized her son and granddaughter... she gets her hair and nails done, and appears to enjoy that.
Well, let's see.
Danny and I will be moving me into my new place tomorrow, after the office meeting. It's pretty much complete... I just have to seat the new toilet and sinks in the restroom.
Speaking of the toilet, I've been pondering putting in "Bull Shannon" level furniture... make everyone else who comes over feel a bit like a hobbit-sized critter. (The commode I picked up is about 18 in. high.) Maybe not make it out of concrete, but large, overstuffed chairs a person could get lost in might do the trick.
Good News / Bad News, dear journal.
Good News: I have full power at my apartment. Air Conditioning and Lights, TV, etc.
Bad News: Big Brain's Hard Drive is crapping out... I can't seem to keep him awake for more than a moment or two before he cycles through and reboots... I'm going to estimate he needs about $400 worth of repairs... mirror the giant drives over to new drives, basically. He had started to die earlier.. I thought it was a power issue, but I see now that it's even worse.
Good News: I dropped it off and it's still covered under the extended warranty.. (this big brain was bought 12/21/03, and he's got 2 years parts and labor covered - a little over a month left to freshen up - I'm also having them do a full system peek, just in case the video card is starting to crap out)
I expect to have it back at HQ within 7 working days. Meanwhile, lappie is a handy backup, just word processing and the like... no major gaming for a week or so.
Saw Phoenix as I was leaving work today... she's currently jobless - apparently some club drama caused her to bail. We had a hug and got caught up with things. She might be preggers, too. I still don't know what happened with Gil and co. She has a lot more freckles than I realized... I gave her a business card and offered to see if we could find her a gig as a tech (which the company needs).
Awesome Halloween Icon -
Interview went well.. I was expecting some sort of Spanish Inquisition... it really wasn't that bad... once they realized I was buying rather than renting and wasn't an axe murderer.
Random mild d-list celeb crush of the moment, UPN33/wfor meteorologist Pamela Wright. She's cute, and funny as all get out.
Ugh... warm again. No A/C, and sweat was rolling off of me in rivulets for a chunk of the evening. Thankfully, it cooled down as the night progressed. I swung by the flo for a nice big plate of french toast for supper, and enjoyed the dance of crossing three streets with no lights in getting home.
No trick-or-treaters, given the downed power areas / rain / curfew / lack of kidlets living in my neck of the woods. So, I have a nice sized bag of caramel creams to bring to the BSO today. This will probably be my last day off-site, as they expect power back to my office by 5pm. We'll see if phones and water activate, too, but I suspect that it'll all come up at the same time.
I'll miss the BSO... we watched The Day The Earth Stood Still on the giant monitor yesterday. Cafeteria food gratis and laid back officemates. I'm enjoying it while I've got it.
Well, it looks like I'm going in to the Deerfield condo interview after work today, or tomorrow afternoon, if something happens to foul tonight.
Unless I totally botch things, I should be owning that bad boy (along with the bank) by Dec. There was no damage after the 'cane, save for a minor tear in the porch screen, and a spray of flying flora frappes in there.
Not a bad Halloween treat! (Hope it's not a trick)
good-ish vibes about the Deerfield place.. they're checking me out financially and socially and criminally, and I think I've passed any tests they might have.
