scottobear: (2 - zombie scotto)
only one more day until Halloween!

Volunteering at the Poe Gravesite tomorrow - I'll be at the front gate, and I'm not sure where BHK will be doing her thing.

I can't believe we've been married 3 years since the 25th of this month. (or that I've had Newton for 10 years and Pye for 3 years on the same date.)

scottobear: (voodoo love)

Third of July. The twin beaches always celebrate a day early, because everyone likes to go to DC or someplace else for the 4th.

Andrew was looking dapper, and the fireworks were a-ok by me. we spent the day grilling - thankfully, it was cool and comfy at windward key. I grilled the dogs and etc, while bhk made a funfetti cake.

We played some Can't stop, Huggermugger and of course, apples to apples. I was hoping for a little try at dictionary dabble  (aka Balderdash, but dabble has much cooler pawns)

.S6303983.S6303982.S6303981.S6303980.S6303979.S6303978.S6303977.S6303976.S6303975.[1] Desktop, 100SSCAM, 9 images, S6303974 - S6303982 - 8444x5073 - SCUL-Smartblend.S6303974.S6303973.S6303972.S6303971.S6303966.S6303965.S6303963.S6303962.S6303958.S6303954.S6303950.S6303949...

BHK took most of the Dock pics, I experimented a bit with the camera settings for the fireworks.
scottobear: (sleepies-palm)
Recapping -

Got my 401k comp check from my last gig - That worked out well. I told a little fib to BHk, and said that I expected about $500, and we got about eight times that amount. (I was planning for about six times.)

Went to Annapolis and promptly deposited that little windfall in the bank - then stopped off at the Amish Farmer's Market for breakfast. BHK and I split two - ate half and then swapped Chocolate Chip Pancakes, home fries, cheddar cheese omelet, wheat toast - I let BHK eat up all of the bacon, of course.

Opted out of going to a movie - nothing we want to see just this moment.. maybe next week when it's less crowded.  We did get a few other goodies at the farmer's market - cheese, strawberries, trinket's for our 4'th of July cake (gummy stars and confetti sprinkles), a blueberry fritter for me for tomorrow's breakfast (or tonight's midnight snack)

BHK remembered that I was due for shots (skipped when em was here) and we went there for a bit. Adam called, and mentioned that he was coming down for the 3rd's fireworks, an was bringing Anna - so, it was a quick trip to the grocery to be sure he had a full belly.

I was feeling pretty out of it at that point, so I rested in the car. Going to nap now that we're home. sweet dreams, dear journal.

added for no reason, except that I like Em and Otters - S6303931

Happy Muddah's Day, to all muddah types!

We celebrated mother's day at clarke's landing - seafood was ok, but not up to normal par. Chris liked it, and that was the goal.

Had a nice day - Larry had to go tend to Prom, so we came over to our place and watched Wuthering Heights.

I split time between the movie, and installing Adobe CS4 - got a good deal on it from a friend, and now I may finally take scottobear.com out of its old look. Still debating a theme, but it'll be cleaner, and will incorporate bHK, pye, newt and myself all on our own pages.

Cinco De Mayo... Cheers! We had ratatouille and baked potato for supper. (But the bagel I ate had jalapenos on it!)

Contemplating going to Bengie's Drive-in this weekend. Triple feature of Fanboys, Monsters vs. Aliens and Star Trek a fun, dorky night.
I'm not sure though - I'd prefer to see MvsA in 3-d.

Talked to Danny on the phone tonight - he might be jumping into a game of Champions at his local game store this summer. 150 points - the store used to be the Dragon's Lair, but it's now Adventure something or another.

Bro sent me a text from his new phone - I'll call him tomorrow and see how he sounds. I'm sure he's happy to be out and about.

No Franklin again this morning - I noticed that the lawn was treated with chemicals - hopefully that kept him away, along with the cold, drizzly rain.

Pull in your tum,
stick out your tush,
wiggle your hips,
now give 'em a push

Godspeed, Captain Chaos
As I was starting to say, I'm glad it's staying a bit rainy and cool outside... I'm probably the only one who is loving a little soft, cool rain over sun and heat. I'm a hairy, big beast... hm, an excuse for another old Ditko picture, I think, dear journal.

Happy Cuatro De Mayo! BHK brought home a few fun things from the thrift store - Aztec statuary for the lawn - a temple, an Idol, and a terra-cotta dancer!

BHK drove me in to work today - made the transition the first day back a lot simpler. We scanned for Franklin, but it was raining. He isn't as silly as the puff from yesterday - knows when to get out of the rain (unlike Pyewacket, who likes to stick his head under any faucet he can. Hurricane baby.

Some days, I feel a bit like Lennie from Of Mice and Men... I feel that I have to be extra gentle, just so I don't demolish everything in my path. I don't want to break any necks, either figuratively or otherwise.

I'm getting better about it, though. Today was exhausting, but I'm glad I'm back at my gig.

Big Bang was cute tonight - lots of nods to nerds, and dinner was a broad assortment of nibs and nabs... veggie spare ribs, taquitos, rice, jalepeno poppers, and edamame! very tasty, and I'm going to pop in a moment.

Sweet dreams, dear journal.

Happy Walpurgisnacht!

Not at work - workers comp / work in general needed a tighter definition of "light duty". (I got the email last night after the doctor's office closed - so I get another day from the house. Kind of annoying - not sure if worker's comp is going to pay for my day off today.)

Should be self explanatory, but I have to wait. I guess back tomorrow. Spoke to the doc, and she's sending over more info this morning.

As of now (approx 3:20pm) they still haven't faxed the information over. I tried calling a little while ago, but no answer. Going to try again in about 10 minutes.

Quiz-meme -

With technology on our doorstep and it's affect on daily living, how concerned are you?
Tag your friends and see what they think. Cut and paste the questions and replace my answers with your own.

1. Do you see currency being replaced entirely by debit accounts and wired transactions by 2050?
No. I think that there will always be a desire for a harder to track form of currency, especially for consensual crime.

2. Do you feel intrusions into our very thoughts by technology in the next 10 years?
Facebook and Livejournal are already here!

3. If transactions become entirely electronic, do you feel that every thing you buy, sell or earn will be recorded?
Absolutely.

4.Of the 3 questions above, do you feel this data will be accessible by government and industry?
Yes.

5. Do you think this information could be used to control you in any way? Mishandled?
Certainly, which is why I suspect currency will not die.

6. Are you aware that scanning devices are now capable of translating our thoughts?
To a degree.

7. Are you aware that devices are becoming so small and integrated that they could be as small as a cell phone, and perform all of the actions exampled above including what cell phones already do now?
yes

8. After viewing this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ-VjUKAsao and reading this article http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn16751-brain-scan-reveals-memories-of-where-youve-been.html
Do you still doubt the future possibility of technology?
Nope

9. would you like to play a game of poker wearing such a device if no one realized your ability?
nah

10. Do you think others would?
yes

scottobear: (pie - pye!)
Happy PI day! To celebrate, we went out for pancakes at the Main Ingredient with Duncan, J, and Sean. A nice time, and we piddled around the stationary store next door to digest afterward. (Picked up a set of cute barrettes for BHK!)

For the record, Pyewacket could care less if it was PI day, Pie day or Pye-day.

Midday, we headed home, swung by the candy store and got our mail, a brief stop at Coffee, Tea & Whimsy for a wine-tasting (well, I was there for the snacks), picked up some crabby crackers, a loaf of italian brad and some pasta sauce, spent $10 to support breast cancer awareness (BHK got a homemade pin, I got a sleeve of sugar cookies)

and watched Mr. Meaty. BHK said that it's like that show is in my head... episodes today were about Zombies and a Planet of the Apes sort of parody.. the show just hits things right on the nose. Thanks, Canada!

This evening, we had a minimalist supper (nibbles above), and watched the 2008 Bangkok Dangerous - I was a little disappointed, and BHK was more so.

BHK enjoyed the Sex in the City movie in part tow of our "flush out our old netflix" film fest more, and I thought it was a passable chick flick based on a girl's TV show, but not much more than that.

I really like the Prince George's Plaza Metro station, even if it is in a fairly rough neck of the woods.

0224091804.jpg

The whole place is just a neat design... lots of concrete, textures and angles hidden everywhere. I have half a mind to design a Counterstrike level for it. (Like I have that kind of time - Too many other things occupying my life to spend 30 hours building a level that will never get any play.

A pity it wasn't one of the locations used in Fallout 3.

After work today, it was off to get our overdue weekly luxury of soda pop and two $1 scratch off tickets - results were the standard "we didn't win anything, let's drown our sorrows in a diet cherry dr pepper"

Happy Fat Tuesday!

In-laws came over and we all had pancakes for Dinner tonight - along with some deviled / boiled eggs, it made for a tasty end of the day.

Larry and I tried spotting the green comet Lulin tonight, but to no avail - the neighbor's house blocked out that part of the horizon. Maybe sometime this weekend, we can head out to the boardwalk and try to spot a section that isn't too lit up.

Word of the Day - EVOE! (from the Conception of Dionysus)

"Zeus stretched out on Semele's bed in the form of a bull with human limbs. Then he was a panther. Then a young man with vine shoots in his curls. Finally he settled into that most perfect of shapes: the serpent. Zeus prolonged their union like some story without end, a rehearsal of the life of the god about to be generated. The snake slithered over Semele's trembling body and gently licked her neck. Then, gripping her bust in one of his coils, wrapping her breasts in a scaly sash, he sprinkled her not with poison but with liquid honey. The snake was pressing his mouth against Semele's mouth, a dribble of nectar trickling down onto her lips intoxicated her, and all the while vine leaves were sprouting up on the bed and there was a sound of drums beating in the darkness. The earth laughed. Dionysus was conceived just as Zeus shouted the name with which for centuries he was to be evoked: 'Evoe!'"

That's all I've got. Until later, dear journal.

Hooray for Having the Day off! Thanks, Presidents!

Slept in for a bit, but not too long. Up at about 9am and then we frittered around until about 1 - played more indiana jones lego, and hung out. We decided to hit the 4pm showing of Coraline in 3-D - but before we left, Larry swung by - he needed me to reset the password on an old laptop he had. Found a great utility to do that - boot from CD, run a little line of code, and presto- reset. I'm keeping the CD in my library in case I'll need it again - I have little doubt that it's a one-shot item, given the number of computer users in my life.

Anyhow, we went to Annapolis to catch Coroline [corrected form Caraline!]- it was a great movie, very immersive, and the story was nicely spooky, but kid-ish. I wouldn't have trouble taking my neice and nephew to go see it - they're 11 and 6. BHK and I noshed on a big tub of corn and diet-soda, so we weren't too hungry for dinner after the flick. We headed home, waved to the ATW man (skiing at the moment) and got comfy on the couch.

A couple of last-minute chores to do - folding laundry and such, and we watched the season finale of Dr. Who... not bad. I liked seeing the army of companions / spinoff folks all working together.

Dinner was tasty remainder of the matzo ball Soup and pair of quorn patties with munster cheese for dinner. After the Who, we caught up with an episode or two of Ugly Betty.

It's a "school night", so off to bed early for me! until later, dear journal.
