I don't have stats, but B'ton seems to just not get messed with by hurricanes like so many other coastal cities to. There was Hurricane Elena in the 80's, and one or two other bigger ones decades ago.

Wonder why the map references a "South Bradenton". When I used to live there, I never heard or saw any references to that, except for the usual N/S/E/W references everyone makes to any city.

I hope it doesn't move down further and mess with you. Are you surrrrre you want to stay in the area you're in?? ::smiles::
Is it just me, or am I just imaginging that you live in a city that is messed with often by 'canes?

Is it just this season that has been coming close to you, or numerous seasons past, too?

{you know how stuff gets stuck in your head, even if there is little base for it}

this, mostly... really, fort lauderdale has been a bit of a safe haven for the last 25 or more years. I guess it was just our turn at bat. :)

Well, this and last year surely has been quite 'cane-ful. I'm not married to florida, of course.. I'd be willing to move just about anywhere as long as I had a decent gig, and a place to put the Newt! :D

it's got a wiki entry! it must be real. ;)

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! I saw that manatee animation somewhere else, but it didn't have the eyeballies or the commentary. That's the Best! I just laughed like crazy just now.

Wow..I gotta ask some peeps about the "South" thing then! They didn't seem to have that name delineation in the 80's that I knew of..and haven't heard anyone mention it since then. Wonder why they just don't call it *all* B'ton..

The average amount of seniors there is neat to know. I've never lived anywhere else where I see as many elderly people out & about, like in B'ton. Especially Senior workers. I rarely see it here, and those that I do see are males. There it's both sexes.

heyyyy..it's late and you're up! :D

hee... I'm on call, so I'm breaking my sleep pattern a bit. :)

I love the manatee bonk video, so he had to be made into an icon .:)

Sometimes I think it sucks that I can only see cute stuff when I'm the computer. I want a animated photo to put on my wall of stuff like that. I wish someone would come up with it. Animated waterfall & religious Mary pics aren't the same. ;)

If anyone would know this, it would be you. I think. ;)

Back in the 70's, there was this little toy thing that I would love to find again.

It fit in your hand. Flat, clear plastic (thick) sheet on top. They sandwiched a layer of floppy vinyl against/underneath the top plastic.

In between those two things, was some sort of oily paint (?).

You rubbed your finger tips around underneath on the vinyl, and the colors would swirl about, but the colors never mixed totally.

Sound familiar to you? Did you have one? I have never seen one on any of the old toy sites I dig through.

oh, I know the thingamabob you're talking abuot.. it was sort of like the maic-rerase boards, but had like black paint in it.. and if you pessed the shees the paint moved out of the way to make rainbow colors?

I sorta kind remember black or charcoal color, and then rainbow colors, now that you mention it.

I remember seeing one in Walgreens..or Walmart in the early 90's. I was surprised to see them. I wish I would have grabbed one, or paid attention to what it was called. :P

I vaguely remember it.. it was liek a hands-on etchasketch.. you could erase it by running a stick uderneath, and redistributing the black ink.

I think? it's been about 30 years since I've seen it. :D

The replies are starting to collapse, so I can't find the one about Marvin to reply!

Thinking about it while I was doing a search...my thing didn't have any black paint at all. It just had rainbow paint only. When you mentioned it earlier, my mind sort of remembered it for a bit...but, but I must have been remembering something else in my brain recesses.

Wilma's heading for Florida tomorrow isn't she? Last I heard on the news (which was yesterday morning ) it had been downgraded to a category 3. Is that bad? do you have to evacuate or anything?
It's scary tho, take care of yourself!

cat 3 is still pretty strong.. hopefully it'll drop to a 2 by the time it gets to us here.

I haven't gottne an evacuation order yet, but they could issue one if it gets stronger, or even stays the same.

Newton and I are covered! :D
