Happy St. Patty's, Dear Journal!

Spring is becoming more and more evident every day.

I forgot to mention a few things yesterday, given the photo/video nature of my limited entry. Father in-law toddled off to New York this week, so BHK and I are playing cruise directors to the mother in law. BHK stopped at Ch'NaCa for a pair of #6 needles, and I  finally used store credit and a gift card to pick up God Of War III and Wii Sports Resort.

Chris took us out to supper at 3 brothers pizza a salad and Sicilian style- half meatball for BHK the more omnivorous, and half mixed veggies for Chris and myself. We planned on doing a little minigolf, but it closed before we could get around to playing. Instead, the gang promptly headed home, and Chris enjoyed beating me at the sword "chop duel" game. BHK excels at Basketball / Archery , and my games of preference are the air combat and wake boarding. Golf is pretty keen, too.

BHK and I got a little wanderlust this morning, and went to take a peek at Aardvark... I was pleasantly surprised to see they were still open, though they're moving at the end of the month, and stopping all video rentals - just comics & games now. Upside, we got a fistful of movies for $7 (~a buck each) - Not too bad - I've only ever seen the first and last of those films.

0317001503.jpg

A, we went to Play'n'trade and I swapped some old controllers, software and $20ish for Infamous, Drake's Fortune, and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 (Games are buy two, get one free - basically I bought one, and got one on credit, and got one free.) Not sure if I'd go to PNT unless I had loot to swap out, but they do price match game stop, and take best buy / game stop gift cards! I'm pretty good for a *LOOOONG* time for PS3 console games.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Shaun and his sister there - I don't thing we'd seen him since the polar bear swim... and we still have some of his stuff at the house. We made plans to play a little Ticket to Ride or Small World with them both sometime soon.

BHK got a little nibble to eat at the local fried chicken joint / Japanese grill - not as good as My Grill was up in Deale, but it was quite yummy and good-sized portions.

Came home, and picked up Chris - watched Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil while having a nibble of Chinese food.  BHK had never seen the whole thing .. it makes me want to go back to Savannah (our Georgia journey pics are a bit out of whack, it seems there are a couple of FL pix in there, but most are properly tagged)

Slow, lazy day today. We slept extra late, napped while watching Pick of Destiny, went to Aardvark's, said hi to Shaun, Margaret, and Mike, picked up a few video tapes for 4 bits apiece, I had a bit of a blackout/tunnel vision event that I'm chalking up to low blood sugar for now (recovered after swigging a coke) , and then headed off to Mexico for a bite of supper.

When we got home, we snuggled up again like happy little bugs in a rug and watched the inauguration concert on the boob tube.

Misc doodle done - groundhog, BHK's backache, metro bus, dandilion, me teaching the boys to dance, zombie snowman and so on.

Caught a bit up on work today - warming up for tomorrow and this week. I guess the Winter Holidays are over, at least until 1/20 (day off for the inauguration).

I seem to be doing a bit better today - still a drop in appetite, but the jaw is feeling less like a stab in the ear-hole with a sharp stick.

Shaun, Jay, and Duncan come over for pasta & broccoli, and we hang out until I need to hit the sack. It's a school night! We chitty chatted for a long while and Duncan was very gentle with the kitties.

Until later, dear journal- Happy sleeps!

Only 360ish days until 2010. I wonder what people will do for crazy new years glasses for 2011? no more double zero years for eye holes until 2020!

Danny's Birthday Today... and one month until I turn 40. Kat's Birthday is speeding up in about a week or so, too, and Duncan-Dad Shaun's B'day is the end of this month.

Lets see - today - Early Morning - Amy heads home - the dog bite on her arm is too infected, and she's worried about properly treating it. I think it'll be ok, but I can understand having concerns.

I get an emergency visit to the dentist - turns out my earache was the result of my crown - too high, and my jaw was adjusting to make it fit properly while I slept. TMJ turned into an ear infection. warm compresses and antibiotics should fix it soon. (I hope!)

After the dentist, I hit the doc's - got some ear drops to relieve the head pain, and looked into some treatment for some of the other issues I've been having. Got some new meds for that, and a consult to see some specialists in the area. We'll see how it goes, I'm hopeful. I should've just done my allergy shots today... but I guess that doesn't matter, since I'm to every other week now.

Jaw is painful, but not terrible. I guess that's one way to prevent overindulgence during the holidays!

Unique hits to my journal, by country - 30,998 total in the last 6 months - slightly down.

scottobear: (2 - crabs for christmas)

It's here! Minimum of muss and fuss. Shaun had his tree picked out and cut down before I even got there.

We introduced Shaun to "Crabs for Christmas", and a good time was had by all. After getting the tree up, we paused for some Chinese food - some of the best I've had. I think the secret to little panda is to not go on Sunday - I suspect that the regular cook takes that day off.

I was very fortunate that Larry brought his own saw - the one provided wasn't up to snuff.

BHK figured out a good place for the tree, the far side of the living room. Traffic shouldn't be too much of a problem there, and it smells so good!

Easy getting this year - measured twice, cut once - and then cut again when we got home, to fit and make fresh for water.

S6302737

We got our tree. Not decorated yet, but I rather like it unadorned at the moment.

BHK, the in-laws and I watched "Love, Actually" and by that time, it was too late to hang lights or ornaments, which is fine by me!

Had an off-site meeting the bulk of the day today - informative, and interesting, but I think I'll opt for the webinar version unless there is going to be any "networking" to be done.

Pleasantly surprised to see Shaun M on the bus ride home - we discussed going to get a Christmas tree tomorrow.

BHK made more pigs in blankets, and we all just sort of are crashing out now.

I'm looking forward to the new tannenbaum, as long as we can find a place to put it in our house.. now that we have the new couch, it's hard to make room for something of that size.

Had a nice night tonight - Shaun came over, though Jay abstained, since Duncan was snoozing so comfortably.

Showed Shaun Fallout 3, and then He, BHK and I did a screening of Hellboy 2 while dining on pizza from a mix. Pizza was yummy - The movie however was not the best - sets and creature designs were nifty, but the story was pretty weak, and resolution was pretty feeble, given that the solution could've and should've ended in the first 2 minutes of the movie. The Corsican Brothers "ow, you hurt my twins" routine is more than a little played out.

I will confess to liking the "young hellboy" flashbacks, and the acrobatics - though the acting was weaker than the first one. Abe was phoning it in a bit.

Went to the Festival of Trees with BHK, Jay, Shaun, and Duncan - proceeds went to local area hospice - The custom trees were neat - I think the "Cats" one had the most home-made work done to it - customized action figures (barbie and kens?) done with Makeup and hand done costumes.

Beard all the way off today! Zip-zip! Not sure when it'll be back, but I wager it'll return eventually.

Shots were a little rough - I think Danielle was preoccupied.

A couple of nifty things today -

installed the new power supply and fan for the PC today - seems to be going well - the video chip varies between 133F and 171F, depending on if I'm surfing the web or playing fallout 3 for an extended period. seems a little hot, but the blower cools the guts of the system pretty quickly.

Had a little late lunch, BHK made a wonderful early supper at 4ish with Jay, Shaun, Baby Duncan and the in-laws. - veggie "turkey" roast, stuffed peppers for the carnivores (with ground real turkey) roasted root veggies, pumpkin bread, and mac and cheese - really good stuff!

Chris and Larry brought chick-fil-a nuggets, and homemade baked apples - which were a hit with 1 year old Duncan.

Shaun and Jay brought some spicy deviled eggs - good stuff... I was the slacker, and just arranged crackers, olives, cheese, dip and veggies.

Autumn is hitting us like gangbusters... sweep the back porch off, wait 20 minutes and repeat. I'm not talking about just a few leaves, either - layers inches deep, in some places. The trees won't have much more to drop next week, if this keeps up.

The colors outside right now are beautiful. lots of oranges, bright reds and yellows. BHK and I are in agreement - we both like the trees that go through a progressive change, all on the same plant. green leave son the bottom, bright yellow in the middle, and darker orange-brown on top.

edit - added a pic of one - camera phone doesn't do it a whit of justice.
