It seems that my curse on the most foul CompUSA is coming to fruition at last. (The whole fiasco with Compusa can be followed in the Compusa tag I have there... Started Nov. 10, 2005 - Ended March 20, 2006...over four months of limping along on lappie while big brain tried to get fixed... and that's with a Full service contract!)

CompUSA has been sold to an affiliate of restructuring firm Gordon Bros., and will close all of its retail stores.

Downside is that I have a full service contract that lasts until March of 2008... I guess that's only a few months away, anyhow. Next time, I'm building my own, or getting from a retailer I'm more happy with.

Had to do some catch up work today.... BHK made baked ziti and veggies for supper with Cathy and Dave. After chow time, we played a little wii sports... Dave slaughtered me at boxing... it was like beating up a little kid. We did better at Lego star wars and Rampage.

Once we tired of digital gaming, we trotted out the analog stuff.

Apples to Apples - I won one round, and BHK won the second handily. I forget who won the third game... either BHK or Cathy.

Hey, That's My fish - I won first round by well over a dozen, BHK won the second... by one fish!

Condo Commando meeting last night gave me brain drain, but the day at work went well. Busy, but positive. CCM was a lot of old people talking loudly and not listening to each other. Got Kudos at work, as did ECN for fine performance on call, and handling weird situations.

160 gig drive finally showed up, so the big brain drama is officially over. Started Nov. 10, 2005 - Ended March 20, 2006. Rest in peace.

For what it's worth, here are the names of the devices on my network:

Point - (PDA)
Circle - (Lappie)
Sphere - (Frankenbox / Newtcam server)
Buckyball - Newest device.

Moment of Lyric (mp3)

I keep on fear, keep on loathing
Nothing brings it on I keep on falling
Decide what it is I can not find
It's subsides what you make it
Never feel like you're gonna break it
It's gonna be all right all right
Sleep until the morning comes
The sun will warm your soul
Sleep until the morning comes for you
'Til the morning it's all right
I can walk into the sunlight, into the day, into the day, to the day
I feel it falling, nothing comes to my mind
Bring it on in a different tide
I feel all right, all right
I feel strong, I feel rigid
It's nothing to do with the vision
Oh feels so right, so right
Sleep on tight, sleep on tight
Sleep until the sunlight
Sleep until sunlight
Sleep on tight
Sleep on tight
Sleep on tight
Sleep on tight, 'til the sunlight
Sleep on tight, 'til the sunlight burns you happy
'Til the sunlight burns you happy, till the sunlight burns a happy hole in
Your heart,
In your heart
In your heart...

New brain came! Everything looks pretty marvy, except that they forgot to send the external 160 gig drive. Calling them today to find out about that. Frankenbox can go back to rest... but I may leave him alive to act as a newtcam server.

Second life was smooth as silk, and not a reboot in sight, save for system updates.

Having a fresh system is nice... boots up super-quick,and loads of room to maneuver.

Comp usa is also still lagging about getting the backup of my system back to me. I may just torrent the lost / rome, etc shows over again.

Cordless keyboard and mouse are keen, but I fear power outage when I least expect it.

Man faces jail time for selling crack

A City of Poughkeepsie man faces a stint in jail for dealing crack in the city last year.

Landocalrissan Butler, 25, of Winnikee Avenue, entered a guilty plea Tuesday in Dutchess County Court to attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony. Butler told Judge Thomas J. Dolan he had five small bags of crack in his pocket Dec. 22 when police arrested him on Morgan Avenue. He said he intended to sell the drugs.

In exchange for his plea, Butler was promised a sentence of six months in jail and five years on probation. He will also be required to forfeit a cell phone and $432 police said he obtained through illegal drug sales.

Butler remains jailed pending his sentencing, scheduled for April 4.

Manatees.jpg

Manatee signs are almost as common in South Florida as U-turn signs, but the friendly sea cows are in more danger than ever. In a story reported by the AP wire, "Manatee deaths jumped by a third in January compared with the same month last year," said officials. The cause of death for the 48 manatees found statewide last month is not completely known.

Scientists are waiting to see if the tests done on a few of the manatees bodies come back positive for red tide or toxic algae. Another possible reason for the deaths, cold water. When the water temperatures drop below 68 degrees, the manatees search out warmer waters. Warmer waters can drive the mammals into boating areas where potential dangers await them.

Manatees have no enemies in nature and can live up to 60 years plus. According to the Save the Manatee Club, there are approximately 3,000 living in the United States today.

Trip to Compusa was fruitful as it's going to get. The new system is set to be shipped directly to my home on 3/9. That means I should have big brain's replacement almost exactly four months after dropping him off at the store. I abstained from the monitor (I have 5 here already) and took the two year service contract instead. Even if I have wait 4 months again next time, that's another free upgrade.

Cleaning lady here again shortly... frankenbox acting as cam server and movie server for lappie. A bunch of mst3k episodes, 28 days later, unbreakable and surf nazis must die. not sure what I'll watch from the porch yet.

Danny and I are going out and about this afternoon. Maybe check out comic book stores in Boca? Play a little Pirates? Rained to pouring last night, but looks clear enough for a little walkabout today possibly, too.

Authorization Replacement for big brain's replacement came down from high command- have to finalize on friday, but it looks like I'm getting an upgrade.

I'd have been satisfied with a $500 graphics card, but if they would rather give me a $3000 computer due to red tape, that's fineGeotarget

Of course, if they give me a cash option, I'll build my own elsewhere.

Now they want to substitute the Nvidea 5950 Ultra with a Sapphire ATI radeon 9250 256 meg ddr, a similar, but inferior card. (a more comparable one is ATi Radeon 9800XT.)

I did research, and the replacement isn't acceptable. I get to call and tell them this morning, and try to get a card that is at least equal to the strength of what the former one was.

They're trying to trade my $500 card for a $60 inferior replacement. I'm not fuming but my disgust levels are high. They're either trying to scam me, or are hugely incompetent. This one is more likely to be appropriate a replacement for my original.

I'm going to verbally blast someone if I get even an iota of resistance on this. I'm mighty sick of this whole scenario.

I really feel sorry for some poor slob that doesn't know anything about computers... this feels like how I feel sharky car mechanics are, preying on folks that don't know any better.

I'm going to try to get an upgrade on Nvidia, just because my old software is already configured for it. Maybe the silver lining of this long wait will be a better machine?

We'll see how it goes. I'm ready to debate this into the ground if I have to.
