A narrowly divided U.S. Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that police can arrest people for minor offenses that would be punishable only by a fine.

Where do you go and who do you turn to when the Supreme Court won't protect citizens from harassment? We will all be arrested.

a lot of cops won't do it, they don't want to be hassled with the paperwork for something minor. Believe me, I know. Larry spends at least 3 hours processing an arrest, and he hates it. He'd rather be out and about. He doesn't even write that many traffic tickets any more! Traffic court is a waste of time. He isn't being lazy, just practical. He deals with the big stuff, and leaves the petty stuff alone. I guess you just have to be that way in a big city.

But, unfortunately there are also a lot of asshole cops out there who would just love any excuse to throw a person in jail.

yup... I suspect a cop either has to have a huge capacity for jerks, or be one himself...

OK, I just read the article. Is that cop a dick, or what?! There are some officers who are aware that they would be WASTING tax payers' money to make an arrest like that! Not wearing a sealt belt?! Should be a ticket or a warning. And if you really want the public to hate the police even more than they already do, here's a surefire way to do it! And, oh, I am not surprised at all that it happened in Texas!

Geeeeeez! Stuff like this makes my blood boil!

i saw this yesterday and it really irked me. i was thinking on my drive to work this morning...what would our forefathers say to this? i think America, land of the free, home of the brave, is standing a little less tall these days. why? because there are people in our government who believe that they are somehow smarter than us poor stupid citizens so they think it is their responsibility to protect us from ourselves. it's not right. arresting a mother in front of her children for not wearing her seatbelt is just unnecesary. i can't seem to understand how the police officer felt justified in doing that.
