scottobearSpeed Racer and (new Pizza Hut a bust - too new and popular to get sit down seats) went to Selby bays subs - got a tasty veggie - they were hammered at 1pm - too nice a day!
I liked Speed Racer. Colorful, bright, and hit every aspect of the show. It went pretty long - 2:30 is a a bit long for a cartoon, but I dug seeing Pops go old-school wrestler on a ninja, and how well Racer X can fistfight from the comfort of inside his vehicle.
If you're a fan of the old cartoon, I don't think it's possible to be disappointed.
After the movie proper was over, BHK and I were digging the credits.. one of the brusha brusha staff was over-exuberant, and tossed my drink out... they replaced it.. but it was mildly peevish to have them get all up in our business while we were still watching the end bit. No after-credits stuff comes up, but there is monkey-shenanigans throughout the top of the end creds.

From the HABS/HAER collections in the Library of Congress comes these gorgeous photographic documentations of an anti-ballistic missile complex in North Dakota.
Several such sites were planned as part of the Safeguard Program, but only this was ever completed. And after being in operations for just 4 months, it was deactivated.

Date: 2008-06-02 08:20 pm (UTC)I fear the most horrifying bugs link... curiosity is piqued but I don't really need horrifying bug imagery clattering around in my head space. Though I like the idea of the ant that screams at you before it attacks - some kind of crazy barbarian ant.

Date: 2008-06-02 08:31 pm (UTC)the bug stuff isn't really gross, but it is *very* scary.... if you're easily freaked out, bugwise, best not to read more... I bet GP would dig reading it.
I agree with you, the idea of an ant howling at you before stinging is pretty barbarian-esque.
I've since discovered that the Bullet Ant doesn't so much shriek as stridulate (make a shrill creaking noise by rubbing together special bodily structures; "male insects such as crickets or grasshoppers stridulate".
but it's akin to scraping nails on a chalkboard.
to me, that's worse. makes my hackles rise.. I don't mind bugs too much, but shrill noises are pesky.
It does correspond to defensive behavior, however.
