I need never hear the phrase "eyes like gimlets" or variant "gimlet-eyed" again. I like the word gimlet and all, but enough is enough.

Unrelated, I could go for some tasty quiche. Had some blah pad thai at Noodles & Co. in annapolis while we sought out Alan's Birthday prezzie. It didn't do much for me, but the cookies and cream milkshake en route home was quite good.

BHK reminded me of the Geister game... you can play it online at BrittspielWelt ! (If you see scottobear there, come say howdy!) If I can get BHK into the online version, maybe we'll pick up (or make a home version of) the board game... plus... BrittspielWelt has a nice collection of Carcassone w/ expansions, not just Yucata's Hunters and Gatherers. (if you're on yucata, say hi to scottobear there, too!)

Rules to ghost in comments - simple game - but fun.

Dreamt that Tigger taught Pye to smoke, and that he nearly burned down the in-laws house after getting too close to the gas fireplace.

Newton knows that kitties shouldn't smoke! (And so does pip !)

"Hard knocks life" from Annie stuck in my head this morning, and throughout the day.

Just this part: (It's all I know!)

It's the hard-knock life for us!
It's the hard-knock life for us!

'Stead of treated,
We get tricked!

'Stead of kisses,
We get kicked!

It's the hard-knock life!

Got no folks to speak of so,
It's the hard-knock row we hoe!

Cotton blankets,
'Steada wool!

Empty Bellies
'Steada full!

It's the hard-knock life!

Don't know why.. my life is pretty keen, and without want.

May the Great Gazoo rest in peace. Plus, Blazing Saddles and the CB show. Thanks for the fun, Harv. Now go do that voodoo that you do so well.

The international space station's only toilet is broken, leaving the crew with almost no place to go. NASA officials responded, "You should have thought of that before you left home."

This is what happens when I don't mash the strongly agree or strongly disagree buttons. I respond to a few things with "Well, it depends..."

ghost rules

English rules for "Geister - die guten und die bosen" (Ghosts! - good and evil)(game by Alex Randolph, 1982)

SETUP
Each player receives 4 good ghosts and 4 evil ghosts and arranges them as he wishes in his setup zone. Ghosts all look the same from the front, so only you can see the alignment of your own ghosts. green=good and yellow=evil.

. A A A A . (B escapes from A's back corners)
. A A A A .
. . . . . .
. . . . . .
. B B B B .
. B B B B . (A escapes from B's back corners)

PLAY
Alternate turns. On your turn, you must move exactly one of your ghosts 1 space forward/backward/sideways (never diagonally!). If you land on an opposing ghost, you capture it and reveal its good/evil alignment. A good ghost in one of the opponent's corners can use its move to escape the board (and win the game).

WINNING
You immediately win if you ever do any one of the following:
* capture all 4 of your opponent's good ghosts,
* lose all 4 of your own evil ghosts, or
* one of your good ghosts escapes off one of the opposite corners of the board.

NOTES ON EDITION
These rules were taken from the 1982 version printed in West Germany by Druck & Display-Werk Sarstedt, copyright Buchholz Verlag. It is the one with molded white ghosts with green and yellow dots on their backs, and the board has a top-down 3D illusion of brick-walled rooms.

This is a Friday post? That's very interesting, because I had Hard Knock Life stuck in my head yesterday (Friday), too.

Spooky.

I'm quite amused that you and I are very very close on the political test. As for BHK, what a socialist!

she's quite the little liberal... she thought she was anarchist, but she's not a jerk that way. :)

I had no idea there was a tool called a gimlet. As far as I knew, "gimlet-eyed" was what people got from drinking too many gimlets!

Never did know much about tools.

It's interesting, though, that gimlet is so closely related to wimble, which has nothing to do with Wimbledon. And it's a bit surprising that the German equivalent "Handbohrer" didn't end up being the root of the English name.

Languages are funny. And now I'm going to go get beer-eyed.

HA! I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought gimlet-eyed meant you had bleary eyes! Scott thought I was nutso when I mentioned it to him!

But there are some REALLY offensive poems up on Haiku Arena right now. I'd hate to leave the community, but holy crap, man. The guy just talked about blowing up my holy land and smiling about it. Anything can be done about this?

Oh, np. I'm so so so not one to feed the trolls, but I draw the line at hate crimes. Draw it with a big, fat marker. I may be a bad Jew, but I'm still a Jew. Religious or not, that's my family he's talking about.
