Nice to be relieved of on-call by EN yesterday.... I really prefer to have my weekend to myself, if it can be helped. Lovely rain all day Sunday, and I didn't do much in way of walkies, due to the foot boo-boo.

Feeling nostalgic for the mid-late 70s... Remembering imprints from the first decade of life, or thereabouts. Sort of funny...so many of folks I know and talk to regularly weren't even protein yet in 1975. Oh, for the good ol' days of eating Cap'n Crunch in front of the boob tube watching cartoons or whatnot before the sun has even come up, without a care in the world. Bro still just about 2 years old or so... My Dad about a decade younger than I am now, Momster even younger than that. Only responsibilities are not to wake anybody up.. maybe do a little coloring, or read a book about dinosaurs with word searches and connect the dots at the end of each chapter.

Even as a munchkin, I had to have mixed media piped into my skull... tv, reading, writing, coloring, action figures (or tiny ones, like army men/cowboys and indians cast in plastic).. usually all at the same time. I'm the only person I know that drew crayoned outlines on paper of my GI Joe and Hulk Dolls. Not that I was playing coroner, or anything. I just liked filling in the silhouettes in different poses as a kind of multicolored version of Hiroshima shadows, usually in multiple overlays.

I still remember that Hulk doll with the torn purple pants and the left leg repaired with a nut and bolt across the knee by my dad. More flashback-type stuff from that period.

From ZDNet:

The U.S. House of Representatives definitively rejected the concept of Net neutrality on Thursday, dealing a bitter blow to Internet companies like Amazon.com, eBay and Google that had engaged in a last-minute lobbying campaign to support it.

[livejournal.com profile] juliabee put me onto heifer.org - Nifty sounding group to help teach folks self-reliance.

Heifer's mission is to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth and they do that by working with communities. Heifer provides families with training and a livestock gift. The family then has hope for a sustainable future and they in turn become donors by passing on the gift of the animal's offspring to another family in need. Take a look at this video to learn more about this organization that helps families all over the world.

Some interesting packages... the honeybees, chicks and the goats, for example. (the other packages)

If we had more Zombies, we wouldn't need to worry about gas prices.

Random Scotto factoid - I like the Smothers Brothers.

Moment of Lyric - (video)blondie_heart_of_glass

Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out had a heart of glass.
Seemed like the real thing, only to find mucho mistrust.
Love's gone behind.

Once I had a love and it was divine.
Soon found out I was losing my mind.
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind.
Mucho mistrust.
Love's gone behind.

In between "what I find is pleasing" and "I'm feeling fine", love is so confusing.
It's no peace of mind if I fear I'm losing you.
It's just no good, you teasing like you do.

Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out had a heart of glass.
Seemed like the real thing, only to find mucho mistrust.
Love's gone behind.

Lost inside adorable illusion and I cannot hide.
I'm the one you're using please don't push me aside.
We could make it cruising, yeah.

Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light
Ooh ooh ooh whoa x4

Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out to be a pain in the ass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find mucho mistrust.
Love's gone behind.

They make me sing THAT Blondie song every Friday night at the Legion where I do a karaoke show. There are about 6 people who really really love that song. Another they make me sing there is Stevie Nicks "Dreams". FUN!

We used to play "Electro Woman and Dynagirl" when I was a kid. It was cool because I had bangs and pigtails so I got to be DG. Much better than when we played "Charlie's Angels" and they made me be Bosley.

Those "Three's Company" credits are kinda freaking me out, dude. Too many doot-dee-doooooo's for me so early in the morning.

Ah, the 70's, a great decade for memories. My son was born in '71 so he probably has the same memories. Especially those little "skivvies" with the cartoon characters, that the name now escapes me. :)

Blondie, oh yea!

I LOVE the Smothers Brothers, no one has done political satire like those two did back in their day. I just saw them hosting on a KOAC or one of those public television shows. They look the same.

I wanna be a Kung-Fu fighting, stunt-motorcycle driving, bad ass, disco dancing, black dude with a three foot tall afro, and magic pet rock sidekick, which via CB radio, offers me Carlos Castaneda-esque wisdom as I explore ruins looking for evidence that ancient Earth had been visited by aliens while fighting devil-possessed survivors from the Bermuda Triangle.
On the side I will give talks about the energy crisis and the dangers of global cooling.
That would be far-out, no jive.

-Mmm..peanut butter cap'n crunch! Was good as a kidlet, anyway.

-When you were digging on sleestaks, I was digging on the baby dinosaurs.

-I can handle that zombie, because he's cute, not scary.

-I've told you this before...I enjoy that you record childhood memories. No one else on my list has done that, other than a random photo on it's own at times. Wonder why? Most seem to share their 20's a lot, though.

Hee... I liked the Baby Dinos, too. It was nice that they showed a little diversity... big ol' "Brontosaurs" chewing cud, Scary, yet puppety T-rexes, and cute little horse-sized babies.

Sleestaks just rang all my bells... aboriginal lizard men with crossbows in a ruined city. pretty awesome.. plus they had scary eyes and hissed a lot.

I just sort of type about what comes to mind... I wonder why more people don't reflect on when they were kidlets? I'm glad you dig the memories - it feels good to relive 'em by typing them out, a bit, even if they're just sparks.
