GeotargetThis card is my problem with compusa, along with really poor communication or support /offering of alternatives.

In a nutshell, it's been since November 10th that my Computer has been at the shop... everything else needing repair is fixed according to them.

Verto GeForce FX 5950 Ultra Video Card, AGP, 256MB DDR
Nvidia
Manufacturer: PNY
Mfg Part #: VCGFX595APB
Product Number: 308120
$499.88

However, that bad boy has been out of stock at the manufacturer, and at all known compusa stores in a 50-mile radius for the last 8 weeks.

With a $500 price tag, I'm obliged to wait, because I really can't drop that chunk of change on something that I should be getting under warranty.

The guys at the shop have given me two timelines, both of which have passed, now. I'm not quite sure what I can do, save for waiting.

Meanwhile, I have to do my work on poor ol' Battered lappie, My Toshiba satillite back from a time when Windows Me (I've long since replaced that with win2k pro) was "cutting edge".

I'd say that the only time I've had worse customer service/ communication was with Comcast... I have since boycotted them, though I've heard that they might not be so bad in other areas outside of SoFla.

Not having big brain has cost me some very significant social chat and play time in 2nd Life, LAN party activities with the old FMM crowd are out of the picture... plus, all of my downloaded movies / Netflix DVD archives are ground to a halt while the machine is gone... not to mention a lack of Newtcam.

I never realised how many people watched good ol' Newt during the day... I've gotten somthing like 80 emails politely requesting when he'll be back online again. If Big Brain is down another week, I'll hook Newtcam up to Lappie so folks can get an orange kitty fix.

I can only imagine what happens when pretty girls shut off their webcams. I suspect horny stalker-type guys aren't nearly as polite as cat fanciers.

Sorry hear about computer problems, I wonder if it is a Florida thing, something about Florida business people and either shady dealings and/or just an apathetic attitude seem to go hand in hand. Not all Florida business people of course, but So Florida is kinda notorious this sort of stuff.
Wow 80 e-mails that newt knows more folks than I do online ;)

Newt's got a pretty big fanbase around the world! He's terrible about writing back, though... I usually have to send his regards.

I think it's especilly shady in the Hialeah / Miami-dade area, and only slightly less so in Lauderdale/ broward/ palm beach.

Not sure why that is.

I feel your pain. I packed up my PC a month ago and have another month until it's available to me -- assuming they ever find it. No one seems to know where my household goods are...

I dunno I always try and look at the silver lining on stuff--although I get easily bent out of shape at bad bad customer service---but maybe just maybe fate had other plans for you during these months. Maybe fate was opening a door you wouldn't have opened otherwise? Or was it warning you in some way? I just think sometimes things that seem terribly messed up---modern annoyances are fate's simple way of knocking us out of our loop for a reason.

I know I know I sound like the biggest granola hippie guru ever don't I? :D

keep on hugging those trees, granola girl!

you could be right... not sure what doors were opened, but who can say? I spent more quality time with newt and going on walkabout. :D

That boosh is pretty funny stuff. I particularly liked the Electro girl with the uni-brow looking make-up and the jazz-man---anyone that will set their hat on fire for comedy is A-OK in my book.

right on!

The spirit of jazz just makes me laugh..."Why didn't you tell me my hat was on fire, man??"

Is that the same guy playing him as the "electro" guy? He gets the accent and speech so dead on until he tells the guy to sign with a Biro---I thought that was cute!

Don't hate me, but I was thinking the same thing blackhellcat did. :0)
It could mean that you could join a class or a club, where you might meet the love of your life. :)))

That said, their customer service still sucks, and I would be miffed. Just like your peeps are blaming a hurricane, Netflix tried to do the same thing to me. No movies for almost a month, because of Hurricane Rita. ::snort:: Hurricane Rita didn't hit Houston, and the city only shut down for 2 days, when they "thought" it would affect Houston. No movies for a month, due to a 2 day shut down? Puhlease.

I squawked to them 4 times, though..and when I said I would take my business elsewhere, they gave me 4 free movies & cut my monthly bill in half. My movies also started showing up again - immediately. :P

Contact the manufacturer directly? I've been known to do that PLUS I keep calling. Sometimes they can give me a much better timeline, & sometimes they even say things like, "What? We have 1000's of them. You shouldn't be waiting at all!"

From: [identity profile] juliabee.livejournal.com
Oh..and don't take *too* much stock in my mentioning a class/club. I'm an introvert, and like just sticking close to home at times! :))

Lots more walkies is good! Silver lining could be that extra walkies kept you away from another back problem that might have been looming around the corner, or something else unseen.

I'm an extroverted homebody, or an introverted guy with wanderlust. I suspect you might be right on the bean regarding the back thing... or I might never have resurrected my bike! plus, I did find all those fun arts and crafts stuff on sale! :D

See..I did miss some stuff in your journal then. :(
Which arts & crafts stuff?!?

"introverted guy with wanderlust"

Hee..I know that one well. Well, actually...on my OWN, wanderlust is big in me, but with others (close peeps, or boyfriend), I'll traipse all over the place. I'm not even going to tell you how many times the group has been to Vegas in the past 4 years, or you'll de-friend me out of disgust. ;)

Nah, no disgust!

I got a wooden manikin, a huge sketchpad and crayons, all for cheep cheep.

I've been eyeing those bend-men, too. I've been wondering if they have one for cats and dogs, I need one of thoseeven more than a peep one.

They do have cat ones at that same store... I was tempted by an elephant one and a way overpriced stegosaurus one, too :D

Whoah that they have elphies & stegs, too. I'm impressed!

OMGosh! Thank you, I had NO idea. :)) There's so much stuff I would kill to have from Dickblick!

I'm gonna see if they have them at Hobby Lobby, because I have an instore 40% off coupon. I need both, but especially the kitty... so 40% & no ship would be good. Woo!

heehee.. you're another golden light shining out in the darkness... and I appreciate the granola chirpies from you, too.

Well, then the hurricane really was a blessing for you! They gave you 4 free movies? To keep?

I've got a call into the manufaturer, as a matter of fact, and will be ringing/emailing more tomorrow. If they say "we've got a gazillion of 'em" I'm going to raise holy heck.. maybe compusa will throw in an upgrade or something for my 'patience'

Date: 2006-01-12 01:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] juliabee.livejournal.com
Oops...no. Just rentals! But, it meant that I could have 7 out at once, if I wanted. When they give you free rentals, a magic button appears in your queue. You use it whenever you want...even months later. After you click it to get your free rental(s), the magic button disappears again.

That said...I got 4, after 3 different phone calls. The first guy offered me nothing. The 2nd guy gave me 1 free rental, because I asked for it. 3-4 days later, I called back and was super-snickety. The female then gave me 3 more rentals & 1/2 off the next bill, without my asking for it. None of it was really free....I paid for the month, and received nothing..so they were filling in the gaps.

Still, it's good that you stood up for yourself and got what you deserved.

hee.. snickety.

I got snickety with Caesar's Palace and in return got an upgraded suite, with mirrors on the ceiling (they were classy & cool, not scary!), a jacuzzi in the middle of the room (woot!!) & chocolate covered strawberries waiting in the room!

Yeah, I think compusa owes you now, too. :/

Date: 2006-01-12 01:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com
Woo! sounds snazzy!

Mirrors on the ceiling seem so weird. I'd think that I'd wake up, and think that some guy was falling out of the sky at me!

Man, I want a jacuzzi!! You may have my strawberries, if compusa gives 'em to me.

Date: 2006-01-12 01:43 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] juliabee.livejournal.com
I was surprised! They offered nothing to me, until I requested something for my lost time, though.

Hah. I layed in bed and took pix, because it was something different & fun. The pix are lost, though. :( I fretted that I would wake up in the night and weird out, but I slept through the night.

You don't like strawberries?

Date: 2006-01-12 01:48 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com
I like strawberries, but they're not my super-fave. :) I'd rather share 'em than gobble 'em up.

Maybe next excursion to Vegas, you can take new ones!

Date: 2006-01-12 02:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] juliabee.livejournal.com
Same here. Strawberries taste sort of bitter/sour to me. Covered in chocolate, I can handle them easily, though.

Haven't been back to Caesars. :( It's my favorite, but their prices swing widely. Most of the big hotels are like that out there, but for Caesars a normal room can be about $190, but depending on what's going on that week, some of the days can be about $400. :(
There's no way I could afford one of their suites with the mirrors, ever. ::snuffle::
