6971 - Fibbers on both sides
Nov. 1st, 2004 08:36 amBush and Kerry repeat discredited claims in their final flurry of ads. Here's factcheck's pre-election summary of the misinformation found during the Bush-Kerry presidential campaign.

Date: 2004-11-01 02:01 pm (UTC)I agree... factcheck is just a stepping stone to do follow-ups. They seem to be able to dig more dirt up on Bush, rather than Kerry, but both have more than enough fibber-mud on 'em to look plenty dirty.
what you mention above is also why religion is such a bugaboo to discuss... everyone has a slightly different book, and few are willing to look outside of thier own tome.
I'm happy to see you so wordy! I really like it when you share your thoughts and opinions on things, because they're well-reasoned and thought provoking.

sorry.
sorry.

There's a Ho's place in Nome.

You're right about the religion, too. Even some non-religious peeps are unwilling to look outside either. Though..they think they are.
"because they're well-reasoned and thought provoking"
Funny you say that. I've noticed as I get older that I see some viewpoints that far left and far right political people won't grasp or maybe can't grasp? Outside of politics...I've noticed the same thing with extreme left and right brained people, too. Not always on the latter, but enough to be noticeable.

Date: 2004-11-01 02:33 pm (UTC)Heh.. I wanted to put down Boris Battenov for prez, myself, but resisted the urge, as well. Great minds think alike!
I suspect that most places will lean against the incumbent, just because a mass of evidence is usually easier to gather? I'm sure all manner of hubbub about Kerry will bubble to the surface, if he's eleceted to office.
I'm not sure what lobe I lean on more... I think that I rely on my hindbrain, lizard thoughts for most decisions I havent' bene more informed on, and my forebrain for stuff thatI've managed to research.
I think that I'm a bit more right-brain than left, but I'm not sure. My wiring switches every now and then.

Date: 2004-11-01 02:56 pm (UTC)Exactly! Which is why I call myself Areligious rather than either Agnostic or Atheist. I was raised pretty much entirely without religion. My dad is an atheist, and I never really went to church or anything like that...they flirted with Unitarianism for a while, but hell...that's pretty much organised Agnostiscism anyway.
I do sometimes tell people I don't believe in a god, or that I was raised by an Atheist. They assume this means I am an Atheist, and I don't bother to correct them. But really...It's something so outside my experience that I don't have a strong view. I have never been "trained" to believe in a supreme being of any sort; Jesus, as far as I was concerned, was pretty much just a figure that a holiday was organised around. It's like an entirely foreign culture to me, on par with, say, the Kalihari Bushmen. I see them on TV and in movies and I know they have been living the way they live for centuries, and they are happy with that lifestyle...but I could never live that way, nor could I imagine ever wanting to. It works for them, though, and that's cool...but it's outside anything I can relate to.
