For what it's worth, it *is* a felony to threaten the president's life in print or broadcast in any way.. has been since long before carter was pres, let along a bush sr or jr.
there's something that I'm squeamish about when it comes to calling the secret service "SS".... makes me think of waffen SS.
Whew. I came back because I logged off and thought, "Holy cow...I hope that didn't come off snarky, because it wasn't". It occurred to me while logging in, that you had probably already replied to me you zoomer! :)))
So Grateful that you didn't take this as argument. Truly just discussion. I should have expected though, that you wouldn't take it as anything but. That's why I like you so much. :0)
Earlier today, one of my in-person friends got mad at me over another political discussion today, and they're not speaking to me right now. I didn't want that to happen here, either. I'm smart enough, and aware of myself enough to know when I'm just discussing vs. trying to change someone's mind. I love to discuss things. Somewhere in the conversation they said they hated the discussion, and accused me of "discussing in order to change my (their) mind". When I said I truly though they brought it up to just discuss, they said "Get it through your fat head that..blah..blah". They hung up the phone after saying that, and we haven't talked since. :/
I mention all this, because I never want you to think if I reply to you on any subject that I'm attacking you. That's not what I'm about. I'm pretty laid back about opposing political beliefs, but that doesn't mean I don't find them fascinating to discuss. I have no political agenda. ;) Though, I do have a pet agenda. :D You and I pretty much agree on a lot of political things anyway, from what I've noticed. Though...this person and I voted for the same candidate, so I guess that can't be an indicator of anything either.
That journal entry of that person's has been spreading through LJ like wildfire. I don't know if it's true..so there is no way I can discredit it. I do know that things are nuts in terms of what both sides are doing to stop a vote in this election. Looking through the comments there, it was interesting to see how many people (looks like on the surface anyway) believe it to be true and passing on the info. That worries me, when it comes to what peeps will believe about anything they hear in terms of politics from others on both the Kerry or Bush side.
I had been thinking about it when your entry came up...so I just started discussing. :0)
And yeah, you are right about it being a felony long before Bush. That said, I don't want the SS on my doorstep either. :o
P.S. Whoah, what the..? I reread my first comment -- what the heck was I doing with my grammar? Ah well.
Of course I'll never take anything you say as an attack! :D I've commented back and forth with you long enough now to know you've got a good head on your shoulders and aren't an angry crankcase. That's part of why I like YOU so much!
I don't mind if someone discusses things or tries to change my mind, if it's done in a civil, intelligent and preferably an entertaining way.

Thanks for posting that screencap...puts some perspective on it. Seems like - she really didn't know to not do that, even in jest. Thought not knowing just don't apply when it comes to threatening any of the you-know-who's lives or when stating you have a b*mb in an airport or on a plane.

I wonder who called her out and sent the fbi after her for her rant?
Your grammar is fine.. it got the point across nicely.
I hope that you and your buddy work things out soon... politics is a poopy reason for a fight!

Date: 2004-10-28 02:51 pm (UTC)her "threat" was sort fo boring, too.
I'd rather see something like...
"I wish the president would be elected mayor of whoville, so we can get another one"
or at least make a snarky pretzel conspiracy comment.
