Taken a look at House Resolution 3598 lately? Enter "HR3598" in the search box and read on:
It is the obligation of every male citizen of the United States, and every other male person residing in the United States, who is between the ages of 18 and 22 to receive basic military training and education as a member of the armed forces unless the citizen or person is exempted under the provisions of this Act.

On the upside, I'm sure it's not the first time it's ever come up in this country's history.

the funny thing is that to me, it's very appealing at first. I do feel that mandatory isn't the way to go... perhaps strong bonuses or incentives to go.

Mrm. Just one more reason why my interest is in bailing ship ... I have the feeling, it'd appeal to a lot of people.

depends on where you go... a lot of countries have it mandatory already, and not just ones at constant war... finland, etc.

all places have positives and negatives... I still think pretty positively that the USA is the my nation of choice of those available.

That being on a bottom list of reasons, and not a deciding factor at that ... i.e., I'd rather be in Sweden with it than Britain without it.

Hmm. Very interesting. I agree with you that it isn't a completely bad thing, but I don't think it should be mandatory either. Perhaps a good solution would be to put more resources into similar things already in place, such as the National Guard or ROTC, like more funding for college educations, or more formal training in a trade, or something like that?

Interesting to think about. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. :)

<--- was drafted in my third year of college for viet nam.... they made it clear to me that they can do whatever they want and they wanted me to go to viet nam.... I made it clear to them that I wasn't going to viet nam... I joined the Navy and went to three years of Navy schools and was on a submarine and aircraft carrier and...
went to viet nam...

Peace
