Thank You, James Earl Ray, For Keeping The Dream Alive
=================================
LAUDERHILL, Fla. A plaque intended to honor deep-voiced actor
James Earl Jones at this city's Martin Luther King Jr. celebration instead is erroneously inscribed to James Earl Ray, King's killer.

"Thank you James Earl Ray for keeping the dream alive," reads the plaque, which has prompted outrage among civil leaders.

*Somebody*'s going to get sued, or worse, for sure.

A Darwin Award nomination will be in order I think.

yikes... you think someone will be killed as a result of the typo?

I certainly hope not but I've heard of stranger things.

Heh, I read about that yesterday. They fixed the plaque without too much trouble.

As I posted somewhere else, there is NO WAY in hell that was a typo or an accident. It was 100% on purpose. That company should have their ass sued from here to hell and back. And find the individuals responsible for thinking that was amusing (I'm sure they have confederate flag stickers all over their cars and outside their houses, pretty easy to find in florida,) and go sue them for every penny they have anywhere in their name or relative's names.

Its so unacceptable its not remotely funny to me.

Well, actually the plaque company they used was in texas, but odds are that the rules still apply.

I could see this being an accident, but it's an ugly one, to be sure, if it is.

I agree, it's not funny... it's ghastly.

I thought the company was in florida?

If in Texas, well you can bet ever cent it was NOT a mistake. NO WAY.

There is NO WAY that was a mistake. NO WAY.

Hear, hear. I second that rant.

you feel that there's *no* chance of error, too?

I don't know.. I could see a mental screw up causing the mistake or it being deliberate. I'm not sure what benefit it would have to foul it up that way would be.

Absolutely not. This is the brainchild of a real twisted individual or group of individuals. I could see if the name was misspelled or was something OTHER than Ray.
The benifit? Some back woods racist hick and his "clan" get a chuckle at the expense of every minority that has set foot in this country.

Could be... my mind links ray and king together, and I could see it flowing out without any real thought. It wouldn't surprise me to find it was deliberate, but I don't get that vibe.

I hope your right but I tend to be a little more pessimistic.

ack! I'd heard about this, but hadn't seen the plaque itself. that's horrible. and I'd take that case.

yeah, the association is just a bit to close. but you'd think SOMEONE would have caught it somewhere along the line. the guy that slaped the piece of metal into the machine and engraved it didn't think "ummmmm, is this right?" it's funny, in a horrible kinda way.

I know how people can go on mental "autopilot". That, and the associations are close.
