When I was 14 years old my grandfather was in an incredibly serious car accident in December. He nearly died from it. I was really shaken up by the whole thing, and my grandmother took some pity on me and gave me a few gifts early. I remember the sweatercoat she'd made for me, which I put on and for some reason took it into my head to lay under the tree looking up through the branches at all the lights, and just thinking... about my grandfather and life and everything. It's all just a precursor to the point... that looking up through those branches at all the colour and light, was one of the most incredibly beautiful things I'd ever seen/done; and it DID make me feel better. It was peaceful and gorgeous.
great effect! pigue used it once, and almost had me until i saw someone else's comment. so nothing in the quotes automatically goes back to the user clicking? when did they come up with that?
ok, seriously, I'd have to say the last christmas my father's mother was able to actually attend family dinner, when she was 90. we kind of knew that by the next year, she wouldn't be well enough, so we enjoyed here presence that much more.
On Christmas mornings we always have "brunch" at my aunt's house. This particular year (probably about 7 years ago) was no different. We all got up, exchanged our gifts at home, got ready, then went to leave to go to my aunt's. We all get in the van, my Dad attempts to start it--no luck. He could not get it started for anything. A few days prior, my Dad had borrowed a pickup truck from a friend of his so he could haul some fire wood. He left our other car with his friend in return. All 5 of us ended up piling into that little pick up truck and driving to my aunt's house. I guess they heard us coming because they all ran outside when we pulled in. As we were pulling in, I see my aunt come running out of the house with her camera taking all kinds of pictures. It was really embarassing at the time, but looking back, it was actually kind of funny.
Christmas two years ago, we had a real tree but had to literally bolt it to the wall (eyebolts and baling wire) to hold it up. The cats were all over it, especially Elvis. He thought it was his own personal jungle gym. It was a good year; work was going well and G was home and not being too much of a jackass. I just remember sitting in the dark of the living room, just the lights of the tree on, and enjoying a very, very rare moment of peace.
