...serious damage. lots of wounds, and all kinds (emotional, physical, and the all important, murky "whatnot"/"other"). i think holistic recovery was vital to it--i got excellent "conventional" treatment (the best ever), but meanwhile doctors and family and random people and loved ones were spoon feeding me support, hope, will to heal. i think that's important. it's hard for me to imagine healing if the person has no will or motivation to. really. support in various ways is vital. and no, i'm not a new age-y person. :)
I'm a fairly rare example in recent decades; a lifelong patient of Homeopathic physicians. (There aren't that many in the U.S. anymore, though at one time, before their professional organization merged with the A.M.A., they were quite common.) I was delivered by a homeopathic M.D., who died about ten years ago at the age of 91. After he left Los Angeles, (when I was about ten,) another homeopath became our family doctor. So, I've been treated for all of the usual things that people get, from flu, to indigestion, insomnia, injuries, infections, and earaches (for which the method was particularly effective.) Except for a couple of tranquilizers prescribed by a dentist once, Homeopathic medications are the only kind I have ever taken. I have no complaints about them. Sometimes they are slower acting than modern drugs, but an illness treated with homeopathy is less likely to return, so I guess it balances out. The reason I now go to a chiropractor is because the place I live lacks a homeopathic physician. Chiropractic is okay, but I find it a poor substitute for homeopathy. I use homeopathic home remedies most of the time. (Try Aconite at the first (very first) sign of a cold; it usually knocks it right out, or reduces the severity considerably. I haven't had a severe cold in five years.)
