[Poll #9365]

It seems to me that (in general) folks post replies more to life comments, only minimally to prose, and hardly at all to poetry... I wonder why that is.

i think it's because when someone uses poetry as expression it seems more personal.
I guess people dont wanna be rude and comment and in some way taint the art of the poem.
Or maybe they just didnt understand the poem, or know if it was regarding real life or not ;)

I tend to not know what to say to poetry and prose. It's always nice to see, but a lot of what I can say would pale in comparison to what people are writing (i.e. "that's a neat poem. I like it. You rhyme well.")

It's not that I like it any less. I guess it's more being able to reply with a personal experience or thought that could apply to what the person is saying.

Plus, I don't feel like interpreting someone's poetry and trying to read into it. A lot of times I'll read something and maybe read into the poem more than the author had intended.

I tend to agree with you there. :) I rarely post on poems, past the "I liked it, thanks for sharing it" caliber myself.

I think people will comment less on a poem, or on a piece of prose someone has written as opposed to just a "straightforward" journal entry, because sometimes it is hard to tell if the piece is meant as a statement of actual fact, or if it is more of an artistic thing. Generally I just follow the "its their journal and they can post however they wish" rule, and I'll comment as usual if anything moves me to do so. I'll risk sounding silly..hehe ;-)

yeah... I think most folks don't want to look critical, or misinterpret... or read too much into it.
