There is a pain pressing in my left eye like a white hot needle pushing into the back of my skull.

I am unable to sleep, and it hurts badly enough that it's upsetting my stomach, as well.

A hot shower has not helped, and I fear it's only getting worse. Possibly a migraine, but those usually effect the crown of my head.

I am *very* tired, but this is keeping me awake, hurts too much. I'm out of pain medicine, as I threw away my percocet, because it had expired, and I've not refilled the prescription. I'm out of alieve. There's not even any booze in the house to take the edge off. I'm going to call a cab, and go to Walgreens for some sort of treatment.

Oh, I hate when that happens to me. I get those kinds of headaches for various reasons, sometimes just because I dream a lot, I think.

hmmm... I hadn't gone to bed yet... it was a lot worse than eyestrain... It just hurt like an SOB last night.

I'm just bad it's better now. I'm sorry the coughs woke you up right as I was drifting off!

Sounds like the makings of a migraine. They're usually one-sided in the head, nausea can hold its hand and lights are glaring and more often than not you can't even get out of bed for much. I lost my peripheral once during one, that was a treat I don't want to taste again.

Oops.. forgot to mention... if you're ok with ingesting over the counter meds, Excendrin Migraine does wonders for me when nothing else will. You're only supposed to take 2 in a 24 hour period, but with the harshest of migraines I get from time to time, 2 at once does the trick ... but if it's your first time taking it, one might be just fine. As far as prescribed meds for migraines, I've yet to find any that don't cost an arm and a leg to get that actually do any good.

Failing medicine. I like to do a bit of self-applied head shiatsu. Eucalyptus and wintergreen scent is very
relaxing too.

I used to get headaches like that which would last three or four days. In my case, alchohol would make them worse, and sometimes actually brought them on. All I could do was sleep them off. I think they were closely related to anxiety, because one of the things that eventually reduced their frequency (at the worst time, they were about monthly) was the program I went through for dealing with panic attacks. One of the techniques we learned was progressive relaxation. Once I developed the ability to relax at will, I found that I could reduce both the frequency and the severity of the headaches. The other thing that helped was treatment by my homeopathic M.D., who prescribed a series of remedies which gradually reduced the length of the headaches. I now have them, at most, once or twice a year, and they are much less intense than they used to be.
