vade mecum \vay-dee-MEE-kuhm; vah-dee-MAY-\, noun:
1. A book for ready reference; a manual; a handbook.
2. A useful thing that one regularly carries about.

Vade mecum is from Latin, literally meaning "go with me."

oh, and there's a fresh combat beginning in the haiku arena.

Altough I don't smoke, I like to carry matches or a lighter. I don't know why but I feel I need this and it will be important some day. I am terrible about having cash on me so I always have my ATM card.

I do carry a purse with me but I am almost always in my car which is where I keep my résumé, a plush wolf, a card game called Apples to Apples, an empty gas can, coupons I forget to use, a flashlight, an umbrella, and a not-exactly-but-very-similar-swiss-army-knife-type-thing-with-pliers. Sometimes, I have a bag of dry cat food in my car just in case I need to feed any strays.

My only hope for lighting a fire is using the magnifying glass in my swiss army knife. :) (lighters seem to disappear when I carry them... I think smokers take them, and never return 'em, so I gave up)

good things all to have in your car!

Smarter than the average bear... :)

I'm not being picky. I just have a latin book handy but isn't the correct term:
Vader Mecum?

Oh hang on, you're right.

excusate, excors sum*.

Arg, my latin is giving me a headache {:¬)
I think, I'll stick to English - it's a bit easier.

Were you trained in the Classics or something? You're really smart.

Great site by the way, Darktrain told me to pop by some day. I'm glad I did.
Nice to meet you.

*What I mean to say is "Apologies, I am stupid."

that particular bit of latin has actually fallen into semi-frequent english usage.

trained in the classics? not in any great way. Went to college for Computer science, and had a lot of fun in the humanities while there. I do enjoy knowledge though, but that's available to most everyone.

welcome to my journal, and thank you for your compliments! happy to have you by. :) DT is a rare find, and I'm glad to hae been referred by him.

I quite agree with you on the knowledge thing. I asked my Dad about the latin-stuff...:¬)

Darktrain is a really cool guy. We should organise a Darktrain Appreciation Society here on
LJ. What do you think?

Darktrain is a coo guy, and does deserve appreciation. :) (I think such a society already exists, however informal, thought)
