Assume both are *real*.

[Poll #1836]

In RA Wilson's Schrodinger's Cat the first line is "The majority of Terrans were six-legged." When I first read that a number of years ago, I had to stop and think about it for a moment. "Bugs". What an all encompassing term for a myriad variety of critters. As Giger has shown us with the "Aliens", extend insect/arachnids to human-sze, and the buggars are pretty damn indestructable. Not just because of their touchness factor, but their speed, adaptability, and sheer numbers.

Yes, I know spiders aren't insects, but I think they have a higher 'oogy' element for most folks.

Spiders... ick.. its definitely the leg thing.. don't like daddy long legs (crane fly)s much either. If a spider sits still I can just about cope, but that scuttling movement...::shudder:: I reckon a 50ft spider would have less success on the scuttle thing though, not that I want to encounter one.
So glad I live in a country where even the big spiders are relatively small!

Spiders are definitely the oogiest.

And Schroedinger's Cat Trilogy rocks the house, y'all.

Oh, and Shelob is the oogiest of the oogy.

Just for the record.

I used to volunteer at the Insect Zoo at the National Museum of Natural History in Wash DC. It was great fun to hold bugs and creep the hell out of all of the visitors. It was great fun.

Whee! :)

You get a bigger appreciation, I think, once you've held one for a while...

What sorts of bugs did you hold?

Hmmmm... let me see if I can remember. Hissing cockroaches (big motherfuckers), some very large, beautiful grass hoppers, tobacco caterpillars (or whatever they were called), mainly stuff that wouldn't crawl away, or fly off. Oh yes, a giant horned beatle. I pick bugs up all the time, to the chagrin of my sweetie pie. He thinks it's gross, but bugs and spiders are cool! There are some however that I would not touch with a ten foot pole, but they are few and far between.

Same here. I figure, a shotgun blast or something clever could take care of the giant spider pretty quickly, but a swarm goes *everywhere*, and is nigh impossible to get away from.
