What happened to launchcast? :( just a couple of radio stations, now?

at least the all access live music part is still keeno. (and I still have access to my other custom radio on radio.sonic.net.

Listen To My Station

My Sonicnet Music Station

but that station still needs tweaking. ah well, it'll do. (I liked the other one better because you had more fine tune control... I love frank sinatra, but hate the song 'love and marriage' since married with children came on the air.)...

I read something.....

in the last couple of days saying that "recording industry sources" are reporting that Launch was being sued for copyright violations. It seems that their individual-station-programming was "too customizable". From what I've read at the Live365 site, the DMCA requires that, in order to protect artists/labels copyrights you can't play requests within a certain amount of time, or more than "x" number of songs by the same artist in a row, or even the same "program" within a few hours... so LAUNCHcast with it's ability to pick what songs you want played, and being able to skip over them and such could, I guess, inadvertantly violate the DMCA. Near as I can tell, to do so, someone would have to sit down, go through all of the ratings and choose ONLY those songs they might want to record and set everything else to zero, or keep clicking "skip" until they got to the song they wanted, and then, if they had the appropriate equipment set up (such as some kind of recorder hooked up to the speaker plug), they could record the song they wanted, which, of course, would deprive a millionaire of a couple cents, and thus *must* be stopped.

So that's what happened to my station. I'm surprised they haven't even said anything on their main page about it.
