D'oh! I forgot this weekend was the International Kite festival... The annual International Kite Festival features kite masters, large show kites from around the world -- some as big as a house -- free kids' kite academy, hourly candy and toy drops from kite pinatas, kite buggy rides, stunt kite lessons, kite ballets to music and precision team flying shows. All proceeds benefit Little Acorns, a nonprofit drug prevention training program for young children in South Florida schools... oh well, maybe next year.

Ahh, reminds me of the Kite Festival in Long Beach, WA. Wasn't as big as this, most likely, but occasionally they'd get these teams with enormous kites coming from around the world. Heh. I still remember watching five or six Chinese men clinging desperately to the ropes of a giant dragon that was pulling them down the beach while the rest of the men who were supposed to be hanging on to the kite chased after them and tried to grab hold. Mostly just a lot of people flying kites, though. I should get down there again one of these days. Maybe even make it down in time for the sand sculpture contest that's always two weeks before or stay for the Ilwaco garlic festival.

Heh. Thanks for dredging up some pleasant memories for me.
