Is it me, or has the Simpsons not all that funny anymore? I've been watching it a little recently... and the last three Sunday night shows have been *really* weak. Either I've grown too far from it's humor, or the humor it had just isn't there anymore. The writing seems very weak to me...

On a similar note... can we go back to one cartoon network? Or, can I get both? I like power puff girls just fine, but I Want to see some Herculoids, classic speed racer... All the cartoon network ever seems to show is its own hubbub. Has anyone come out with a 'Hong Kong action' network yet? I think it'd fit well with the 'romance' 'western' 'mystery' 'sci fi' themes... Sometimes I just want to see some guys hopping around muttering..."You killed the master, Drunken Tiger scorpion style!!" Hyah!

Personally, I miss the Gummies the most. That was truly a well done cartoon.

I've seen all of the other classic cartoons like Bugs, and Daffy, Sylvester and Tweetie, etc. but The Gummi Bears was the richest artwork and story line by far.

I did enjoy the gummies too... I think I lean to the old max fleischer superman cartoons though.. very nostalgic for me, even though they were made decades before I was born.

I'm feeling ya on this one, Scottobear....

"The Simpsons" used to be the epicenter of my Sunday evening. I always raced through dinner and the dishes so that I could devote 30 minutes of my undivided attention to the show.

These days, I don't even bother to watch it.....well, maybe the syndicated reruns (but I've seen 'em all so many times, I get bored with those too). Most Sundays I consciously think "Hmmm, Simpsons is on....Naaaaaah!"

I think I gave up on them because they sorta lost their edge. The humor isn't as sarcastic as it used to be...the dialogue isn't as clever. Instead, they seem to be falling back on celebrity guest voices and sappy story-lines.

It's really sad to see something great fizzle...

(Incidentally, I added you to my "Friends" list. I see you hanging 'round DarkTrain so much, you must be a good guy! Welcome.)

Since starting the new channel, does Cartoon Network only play their original products? I don't know myself, since at my college they don't carry Cartoon Network (or the History Channel OR Comedy Central, dammit!). Also I don't get why Cartoon Network or their spinoff won't carry Transformers...are the rights too expensive or something?

Oh, give Futurama a try. It seems to be where Matt Groening is concentrating most of that Old Magic at these days.

Yeah I agree, the Simpsons have gotten a little less funny over the past two seasons. As much as I hate to say it, I think maybe they either need to hire some new writing talent, or end the show now while they're on a semi-high note. It seems like the episodes have no cohesion anymore--like they start off doing one thing then all of a sudden the show does a 180 degree turn and becomes something else completely. I love the Simpsons and I've watched them ever since they were on the Tracy Ullman Show, but I'd hate to see it burn out and become an embarrassment.

DOH! ;-)

I've liked what futurama I've seen... Bender is fun.... I don't watch too much TV... I recently got into the sunday night schedule again, but I may fall out of it again. :)

I recently saw the transformers movie was playing on some cable channel or other... but missed it.

Thanks, Missy!

I guess I'm out of sync... it'd been about 2 years since I watched it, and it was a bit of a blow... very sad.

on a happy note, welcome to my LJ! :) Always a pleasure to have someone new on board, and if you come by way of DT, then I'm sure you're good people!

Don't mind if I rummage through your journal too, I hope!

If you get digital cable in your area, Gummy Bears is on Toon Disney.
The best part of that channel though are the Gargoyles episodes.

We stopped watching The Simpsons over two years ago. We hoped that the writers had moved on to Futurama (sp?), but we were disappointed when that obviously wasn't the case. I almost wonder if the writers went on to Malcom in the Middle, because the humor is very similar.

You might be right... the more surreal elements from the simpsons seem to have bounced over to MITM. I've not seen a lot of futurama, but the ones I have seen were fun.

I remember the episode I cried on too. The female bear (I don't remember her name.. ) fell in love with this ghost who was the captain of a ship. At the end they couldn't be together anymore because he was being freed from being a ghost, so she was crying and waving goodbye to him.. that's what got me started. :P

How about the earlier Popeye and Mighty Mouse cartoons, the early Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, and Mickey Mouse, or even the ones that featured sing-a-long songs or nature and orchestral settings with bugs and nimals to classical music. Then there is Woody Woodpecker, Foghorn Leghorn, Deputy Dawg, Yogi Bear, Droopy, the little peguin whose name I forget at the moment, Muttley, Scooby Doo. Also Felix the Cat and Betty Boop cartoons and the little country mouse that wore the hat.

Other than gummies Bugs Bunny and Sylvester and Road Runner as favorites we can not forget that there were a number of cartoons portraying cats. WHy couldn't they ever come out on top. Why do the dogs, mice, and birds always win?

As for TV shows, I forgot Rin Tin Tin, Lash Larue, Zorro, The Rifleman, Bat Masterson, Wild WIld West, Cisco Kid, Roy Rodgers and Dale Evans (throwing up), Gene Autry, Rowan and Martin, Andy Griffith Show, Route 66, and The Outer Limits.. And, how could we forget Father Knows Best, Maverick, The Virginian, Jim Backus Show, Mr. Magoo, Lassie, Tennessee Tuxedo, The Singing Nun, Gentle Ben, Gidget, The Patty Duke Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Lou Grant, Adam 12, TJ Hooker, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Stalag 17, Davy Crockett, Tarzan, Batman, Danny Thomas Show, Bob Newhart, Ted Mack Amateur Hour, Groucho Marx's You Bet YOur Life, The Three Stooges, Little Rascals, Mod Squad, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Carole Burnette, All in the Family, Chico and the Man, The Jeffersons, Laugh In, Andy Williams Show, The Smothers Brothers, Green Acres, Petty Coat Junction, Peter Gunn, The Saint, Monty Python, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, WIld Kingdon, The Shari Lewis Show, Lawrence Welk, Dennis the Menace, F Troop, McHale's Navy, Marcus Welby M.D., Trapper John, MASH, Ben Casey, Charlie's Angels, Beat the Clock, Sunset Strip, Dan Tana, Joey Bishop Show, Sea Hunt, Police Story, McCloud, Rockford FIles, McMillan and Wife, Co,ombo, Starsky and Hutch, Banacek, Lavern & Shirely, Welcome Back Mr. Kotter, Happy Days, Room 422, Mr. Ed, Superman (the TV show).

Plus there are a few others out there that I can picture but can't quite put a name to, they are buried so deep in the dark recesses and nooks and cranies of my mind.

:)
