So tell me scotto - you've been on line for a while. How do you deal with all of the coming and going and goodness and nastiness and time consumingness (i know i made that word up) ??
Do you have any wisdom to share? I'm at a total loss.
I don't really think about it all that much... when folks are mean to me, I don't usually let it bother me... if they're very evil or really dumb about it, I'll show other folks "this is an example of a goombah. Don't be a goombah."
I've been very fortunate (more than many of the others) in that I've never been flamed, or talked badly about by anyone of any worth. If all of a sudden, someone like oh... I don't know... Bradfitz said "Hey, I'll give you a year's free service if you can figure a way to make scotto cry", I'm sure some person could figure out how to do it.
I think that there are a few reasons evil LJers might not bug me much, the first one is because I'm boring to the average troll. I don't display strong religious convictions, I'm not a pretty girl (they seem to get the jealous other girls, and the horny-jerk boys), and I have a lot of friends. I really do care about a great number of folks on my LJ pals list...and I like to think that they care about me too... Look at the dogpile of folks who came out to stomp on the head of the one troll who bothered me... he felt so bad, he apologised openly, and begged for folks to stop hitting him. (Is it wrong for me to like that? well, I do, anyhow... it's nice to have folks feel protective)
the coming and going... that's been an aspect of online life since I was a digital toddler. bbs's and message boards are notorious for having folks appear, be very visable, then vanish for no reason... you get used to it after a while. I hate when that happing in meatspace, though.
Time consuming... I just budget my time. That's why I don't get to post in all the journals I'd like to (I'd rather read than comment) and haven't made more public entries of substance, recently... I've been working, loving, and doing private writing.
So, the long and the short of it is... I don't really have to deal with it. People come and people go... I miss them sometimes, but it's their life. goodness, I can't get enough of. nastiness, I tend to ignore...no opinions worth valuing there. Time... I do what I can, and adapt.
Hope that explained even a little... I fear that I may seem insensitive.
Not insensitive. I like the way you approach LJ - you always seem good-natured about everything. I'm always in awe of people with that quality and wish I had more of it.
Thanks for sharing. You've given me some things to think about. I'm constantly trying to figure out how to deal with this issue.
You very often make me feel good, and that certainly adds to my mood when posting.
In all honesty, I've thought about going totally private before, but I've met so many wonderful folks, yourself included that it would be wrong of me to do so... :)
Scotto, my respect for you grows yet again. You are intelligent, insightful, thoughtful and REAL. Thanks for sharing with us what you have to offer. You rock.

a very silly skit by the frantics... I thought that Mateo would remember it, as it seems like a mateo-y thing to enjoy. :)
And now class, let us rejoin the mind to the body and gaze into the heart of the candle in meditation.
You missed, Ed Gruberman!
I remember Tae-quon-leap. Heard it years ago (like 1989 or 1990), on the Dr. Demento show. I've loved that skit since high school.
Hmm. Maybe this isn't going to help you not feel old... ;-) But at least you know you aren't the only one to know what the heck you're talking about.
