Super Bowl Records

I am sure she made G Gordon Liddy proud.

You find some of the most amazing things online. I think I better broaden my scopes a bit and get my head out of the legal, medical and architectural sites and cruise a bit more. These are wonderful!

Zero Tolerance--I'm reminded of an issue that happened here a while back in which a girl in middle school was suspended for having Midol in her purse! I guess the school's policy allows for no drugs at all--period!

(We pause now as things are thrown at Mouseferatu for that last joke.)

Man Sues For Getting Drunk--Does that mean I can sue Taco Bell if I get fat again? :-)

Pat on Butt--I assume that if a pat on the butt is not sexual harrasment, that a sock in the jaw doesn't qualify as assault?

Weren't the Italians the same ones who said that if she was wearing tight jeans, it couldn't have been rape, because how do you take off someone's tight jeans if they don't want you to?

Of course, as I recall, that was a lower court decision, and pissed a lot of people off, but still.

That's what I get for not actually reading the thing.

Like the times in class when I wouldn't do the reading, and would mention stuff I'd read elsewhere, with the idea that it was really original and insightful, only to find out it was actually included in the assigned reading.

You'd think I'd have learned by now.

meh! I appreciate the comments regardless...

say... about the ACLU thing.. did you disagree with the links, and just lose interest, or were they enlightening in any way?

I read them. They made me uneasy; I don't like that. I have no idea how much autonomy individual chapters have, so... If there were another group, doing the same thing, without the selection bias, I would back them, but I don't know of any. So you work with what you get, right? And there are a lot of things that the ACLU does do that I really want to support. There's some scary stuff going on in Texas, and I need to get in on it. I would also like to hear more sides of these issues.

If you think any of this sounds like a weak justification, you're probably right. I'm used to thinking of the ACLU as the good guys, even when I don't agree with them (although it must be acknowledged that there are worse out there like, oh, the people causing the problems). My parents were charter members of the chapter in Augusta, Georgia. So this is hard for me to process right now.

ACLU? What about them? What did they do? What did I miss? What's going on?

Please don't tell me another one of my "Hey, they're the good guys" groups has gone bad. Please?

Sorry, it was about aclu not being as equal-minded about things, how they go for the glamor shots, instead, on occasion...

I have some links in an earlier post... some stuff the ACLU does is still quite good, though!

Check the 8:43 pm entry for Sunday the 21st.

I wouldn't say "gone bad" per se; more like, nothing is black and white, and arguments could be made that they are not knights in shining armor. But nothing like "the ACLU wants to turn us all into baby-eaters," or something like that.

good response. :)

and another thing...

the one about medical marijuana raised an interesting question for me, with regard to activism... do you pick your battles, and fight only the ones you know you can win? Or do you go out in a blaze of glory, principled all the way, fighting whatever needs to be fought? And if you have an iffy public image and limited funds, should/does this influence your decision?

It's not a choice I'd want to be forced to make.

My flexibility on such things is narrow... sadly, the triage idea of choosing a battle may not be one of fighting those you can win, but fighting those that you know will get you the most press.

working within one's parameters is generally a safe bet, I suspect... it's just setting those parameters can be a bear. :)
