Found out what the critter was from the yellow flowers in Deale were here-

It's a Snowberry Clearwing Hummingbird Moth- or a Hemaris Diffinis

Very nifty critter - I wonder if it is as common here as it is in points further north - many thanks to Billijean and everyone who pointed me in the right direction.

I love how they look like a giant elephant bee with wasp legs, hummingbird wings and fairytail curly butterfly antennae.

They love my lilac bush, the valerian and sometimes the borage.
