Random Thought - My niece (via Momster's younger sis Diane & ) Inger is 17.... I can remember when she was born, and wore the candle headdress at age 4! How the heck did 13 years skip on by that fast?

We watched the most thinly-veiled possible telephone ad / infomercial on the tube last night.. Picture This. Poor Kevin Pollak. Ah well, I was happy just to relax on the couch and veg for a little while. Note - It is not a "hilarious coming of age teen comedy."

Today's Harvest - Okra and three kinds of eggplant!

today's harvest via bhk

recent listens -

Bjork - odd duck and Grinspoon - gone tomorrow

Mamihlapinatapai:considered the hardest word to translate.

It describes a look shared by two people with each wishing that the other will initiate something that both desire but which neither one wants to start. This could perhaps be translated more succinctly as "eye-contact implying 'after you...'". A more literal approximation is "ending up mutually at a loss as to what to do about each other".

at the suggestion of MGK - I've added Zero Effect to my netflix.

Mamihlapinatapai sounds like Friday nights after work when I pick you up. What do we do---I dunno :D

"Inger" --- "candle headdress"

I'm guessing she has a Swedish parent? That's my niece's middle name. My sis-in-law is full on Swedish. Both of them are on my Myspace. Normally, I wouldn't even mention that..but because I only have like 2 peeps on my myspace account, I thought I would. Ha.

So, does the white eggplant taste pretty much like purple eggplant, or?

Oh! I forgot to comment when you mentioned, "slimy okra." Ya..they are slimy. Yechh.

Have you had pickled okra before? They're the bomb...and there's no slimy when they're pickled! Yay!

never had it pickled... that's next, I'm guessing!

yum!

I'm not a big fan of okra..but I don't mind a piece or two of the pickled kind, or the same way BHK made them.

My parents put out pickled okra for parties. When pickled they look sort of ugly, but I nibble the heck out 'em.

I tihnk the white is less bitter more buttery. I've been cooking with the long thin purple Japanese/Ichiban Eggplant now for a few weeks and WOW! I LOVE THEM! Sweet and hearty great as a meat sub in lots of dishes! I just can't sing their praises enough!

I'm anxious to try the green ones! When I went to the Southern States Farm store to buy my plants I just couldn't resist getting them they were so odd---whenever I see a plant like that i have to try it---I also picked up a Chocolate bell pepper plant but it died :C Now I may never know the delicious taste of a chocolate pepper!

I bet you'll get a bit of choco-pepper yet... maybe we can look for them at the farmer's market!

"more buttery"

Oh, yum. I use eggplants when I make wraps a lot..I bet I would love the white ones!

We have a big backyard, and I've often had passing throughts that we should be putting it to good use by growing some of our own food. My annoying fear of larger spiders, insects & worms has been part of why I haven't taken up gardening. J's bro is a big gardener, and I wig out when I see giant, hairy spiders hanging around in his garden. :(

I really wanted to try it this year, but had too much going on. Plus I don't know the first thing about it. I'm tempted to go to a nursery & ask if it's too late in the season to grow even one thing (to test the waters), by seed. Seed because I can afford those. :D

"also picked up a Chocolate bell pepper plant but it died :C Now I may never know the delicious taste of a chocolate pepper! "

I've seen mention of chocolate this or that in the plant & seed section on Ebay. I like looking through there at times..and always wonder what the choco-type veggies taste like! Maybe it's not too late or expensive to buy a plant on Ebay?

I suspect that they taste pretty similar to regular veggies.. the peppers are just shiny-brown in color, like a milk chocolate bar.

We haven't had any spiders, but slugs are a bit of an issue.... which do you find less icky?

I bet you could grow from seeds... it'll be hot in your neck of the woods for another month or two, right?

Seeds are cool but you know getting live plants gets you super fast results! And most plants don't cost more than 3 bucks a pop! You should try doing a small garden! Pick something easy and start with a small patch of something----even basil or parsley! You'll get the fever for gardening soon after you make your first meal using home grown ingredients----I can't tell you the sense of pride, place and health going out to your yard and picking dinner gives you!

She's pretty dang Swedish!

I've peeked at your myspace - I'm guessing it's the blond lady, eh?

Ha..yeah, that's her. We are such totally different creatures.

::Leans in closer to whisper:: She changes her photos often on there, and when she has shorter hair..it's hers. But when it's long..it's those clip-on hair extensions that Paris Hilton sells now. Normally I don't mind hair extensions AT ALL...but I want to burn anything that has to do with Paris. She & my niece are all into Paris & those types of girls.

Ahhh! I just had to tell someone! I hope I don't get struck by lightning! :D

hee hee... well, I promise not to tell... (well, except BHK!)

Paris Hilton is a bit of an abomination to us, too :)
