Apparently many of my responses never made it to their destinations....thank you much, pokeystinkypootie server.

hehe! Yeah, we're all smart and we're all French/Inuit. We live in igloos. The police wear read coats and ride horses... ;)
Once, when I was 10, we were camping in Kentuky. It was the end of June and we were on our way to Florida for the American bicentennial. We met a family there who simply would not believe that Canada was not covered in snow for 10 months of the year. Finally my dad went through some of our stuff and found a newspaper that had been used for packing. He showed them the weather reports. I think that they thought we playing a trick on them... heehee! mebbe we were!

:P Not really off-topic (ahem) I really *did* pet a beaver not 2 hours ago. What? I know, I know.. this is a "family" journal... just keep your mind out of the gutter and let me tell it... As I was saying, I did pet a beaver a little while ago. Only is was the kind with big tree-chewing teeth and flat tail - just like on the (Canadian) nickle. Of course, it was a dead beaver. I was at the taxidermist dropping off my screech owl for stuffing.
So there.
...
...
I would just like to say that I am not as weird as I sound.

taxidermy.

Actually, this is the first. One morning at the end of October, I was dropping my dog off at the groomers and I saw an owl on the ground. I am not sure how I saw it - it was under the front bumper of a car, almost touching the wheel. My first though was how beautiful it was. It was little - about 10" high and I'll bet it doesn't even weigh a pound. It's yellow eyes were half closed. It was clear that it hadn't been dead long - there were no bugs on it yet. Several hours later, when i came back, I showed the owl to my son, who immediately fell in love with it. He refused to leave it there. He wanted to take it home and bury it. That seemed like a good idea - better than letting it rot in the grease and oil. So we put it in a plastic bag. A few minutes later, someone suggested we get it stuffed. I explained to my son what that was and he jumped all over the idea. At first I tried to talk him out of it, then I said that we would see, maybe it would be too expensive. So our little screech owl has been in the freezer for almost two months. I decided to have it stuffed and mounted secretly and give it to my son for Christmas (yes, yes, this is a little "out there" for me).
... hence the trip to the taxidermist, where I also petted a black bear, a linx, a fox, a black panther, several ducks, owls, rabbits, a new born lion, a baby tiger...
Now the taxidermist... that was like something from Millennium. But that is another story :)
