* 1 of 6 boys will be sexually molested before his 18th birthday.
* 1 of 5 children have been propositioned for sex over the Internet.
* 2 of 3 sexual abuses are perpetrated against teenagers or younger children.
* 90% of sexual assaults are committed against someone the perpetrator knows.
* The median age for male molestation victims under 18 is 9.8 years old.
* The median age for female molestation victims under 18 is 9.6 years old.
* There are new 400,000 victims of sexual assault every year.
* There are over 550,000 registered sex offenders in the US.
* There are over 100,000 sex offenders that fail to register in the US.
* 76% of serial rapists claim they were molested as children.
* Over 40% of male juvenile delinquents were molested as children.
* The typical sexual predator will assault 117 times before being caught.
* The re-arrest rate for convicted child molesters is 52%.

Confused. There's 50 listings but no WV. Are they counting DC as a state? These numbers are something I've wished people could see for a long long time.

West Virginia, Nevada, Rhode Island, South Dakota and Vermont are a little out of whack, detail-wise. more data needs to be gathered.

what does "sexually molested" mean?

if a girl/boy has an 18 yr old lover at 17, is that sexual molestation?

also, urinating in public, as in beside the road next to your car, is a sexual offense.

That depends on the judge (usually, it's an "exposure in public / or lewd behavor" issue)

Molested : the act of subjecting someone to unwanted or improper sexual advances or activity

Having sex with someone under the age of consent is illegal. Dending on the state, the age can be as low as 14, or as high as 18. The national average is at 16.

Wonder what the percentage of individual children who are molested on more than one occasion, by different adults is. 1 child -- how many adults.

Also stats on where most occurances happen. --As best as that could be approximated anyway). Stores, open street/public, churches, schools, one's own home, relative's homes, Etc.

117 times for the just TYPICAL pred? Ugh. Separately, assault doesn't always come in physical form. I wonder how the author is using the word here? Though, merely approaching a child about anything sexual, can be traumatic for some children - trust me.

I believe they're using they're using the word assault to mean both improper words or touches.

We have a new system in schools this year where every single visitor on campus has to swipe their license for a check against the sexual predator database. The only problem with this is that we have parents that are on the list, and we can't prevent them from coming to their child's school. At least we know and can watch them, but how uncomfortable is that?

I thought that a sexual predator is disallowed from going to schools, even if they have a kid there!
