another holiday secret about scotto -

I wrap gifts in old comic books. waste not, want not. I have not used 'wrapping paper' per se in about a decade. recycle! you can get comics at the $.10 bin at most comic shops, or use some you have at the house, if you collect, and realise that 'superman's death' thing really isn't ever going to go up in value.

*goes to tear up his crappy old Amazing Fantasy comics* Silly things will never be worth anything.. especially this #15 ;}

Seriously though.. its a great little idea.. especially to someone who appreicates comics and stuff like that..

I don't think i'd be able to part with my Sgt Rock stuff and make it wrapping paper though..

Gift wrap.

Last year I went to Hawaii and bought everyone presents and I didn't want to buy wrapping paper too so I picked up a whole ton of these free info guides that are for Japanese tourists. I thought the writing looked cool.

Anyway, I taped pages together and used it to wrap all the presents. Everyone really seemed to think it was cool. Luckily I took a bunch of the buggers home and I've bought this huge 1000 page Japanese comic book at Tower records to wrap all this year's presents in.

For the real swanky presents I use fabric. I've been in a wedding and the bridesmaid dress was hideous and I wouldn't give it to a thrift store or salvation army if I was paid to, so to put it to use I cut it up, sew a couple hems into it, and use it as neato wrappings.

Yeah, the dress is turquoise satin, more appropriate for birthdays, but it's *huge* and long so I've got tons of fabric to work with.

It's fun to wrap presents for the bride that picked out the monster dress in the fabric, she doesn't even notice.

I think I'm going to expand the practice to my old t-shirts and maybe even old jeans. All those clothes that are too worn out to give away, but not so threadbare they can't serve one last purpose.

I once wanted to make a quilt out of old t-shirts... thought it'd be a way to keep concert memories alive...(or whatever! )

When I was first learning how to use my sewing maching, I used to make pillows out of my favorite old t-shirts.

Old t-shirts make spiffy pillows...so soft.

I imagine they'd make a pretty rockin quilt too, but I've never had the patience or the abundance of t-shirts at one time to take on a project like that. Neato idea though!
