Trying to work out the best method to get to points north at the end of the month. I'd like to take Newt on the trip with me, but I can't seem to get an answer I want about taking him with me into the passenger area, because I don't want him in the cargo hold... he'll stay home, before that happens. Right now, it's looking like he's just going to stand guard at the Grotto HQ.
Looks like Tropical Storm Chris isn't going to bring any more than some rain on Sunday. Works for me!
Is this widespread "11:11 trend" stuff new, or am I just now seeing it all over the place? I know Urantia has a good sized following, but I can't say as I've ever seen the marketing/branding side of it. It seems like another version of the 23 enigma.
I'm a pretty firm believer that the more you look for a pattern, the more often that you'll find it.. but if seeing a number brings someone comfort, more power to 'em.
The Tostada pizza (Southwestern black beans, sharp Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses topped with chilled shredded lettuce, fresh tomato salsa, green onions and crispy tortilla strips with garden-herb ranch dressing) at California Pizza Kitchen is pretty dang tasty. TD, GG and I went out there briefly, and it was a good time. GG left early to go on a date, but TD and I stuck around for a bit and discussed an assortment of stuff from the Kennedy assassination, serial killers, assorted work and life history, and scamming for free meals in college. Nice to hang with coworkers and not talk about work.
meme-a-leme:
1. Leave a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. If you like, update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. Include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, ask them five questions.
Fell asleep last night reading P&P, and forgot to put on the CPAP. Woke up this morning with a swollen uvula and mildly sore throat. That tells me that I'll have to take the CPAP with me on my trip, and sleep somewhere I can plug in. It seems that camping out overnight is still fairly out, if I wish to enjoy the next day properly. I woke up about 3 hours ago, and the soreness is abating now.

Date: 2006-08-05 08:43 pm (UTC)I belive all people have souls. I believe in free will. I do not believe in ghosts, but do believe people live on in memories. Science and faith seem to me two aspects of the same search for ultimate truth. Finally, regardless of whether we are natural or supernatural in origin, we can give meaning to our lives by practicing love and morality.
2. What do you do for a living?
I teach and I learn.
3. What changes do you see in your life over the next year?
Catherine and I will get married. To each other, even.
4. If you had one superpower, what would it be?
Telepathy.
5. There's a troop carrier rolling up to your back yard. Why?
Why not.

And thanks for the birthday wishes. You are a sweetie.
Ask away oh great Scotto of the Grotto.
Re: Interview me, baby.
Date: 2006-08-05 08:15 pm (UTC)hm, emotional support animals. I like that.
questions -
1. Tell me a memory of a favorite birthday.
2. Who is one of the more influential people in your life? Why?
3. What is your greatest passion?
4. Can you read/speak any languages aside from english? What are they?(I include computer languages and music in that sort of answer)
5. How did your last argument turn out?
Re: Interview me, baby.
Date: 2006-08-06 10:39 pm (UTC)This one was actually pretty sweet. My family was out of town, and I was expecting a pretty low key hang out by myself kind of day. But a lot of unexpected things happened. The day started with a call from very dear friend in Tunisia. My wife had hidden cards and presents from her and the girls in the house and later she called with clues. My mom ended up driving down and we hung out, which was the first time in a long time we have had any time without anyone else. We listened to the new Kris Kristoferson CD, and ate stupidly spicy Thai food. That night we went to a friends game-night pot-luck. Played some low key games until the various young uns went to bed and then played Parthenon until the wee hours of the morn.
2. Who is one of the more influential people in your life? Why?
Two folks come to mind. My drill sargeant and Fritjof Capra, author of the Tao of Physics.
3. What is your greatest passion?
Right now, I would have to say soaking up my family. Cheesy answer maybe, but true enough.
4. Can you read/speak any languages aside from english? What are they?(I include computer languages and music in that sort of answer).
Half-baked Spanish. Pretty fair French. I took some Russina in High School but I don't remember much. I can read music too.
No current computer languages, but I used to be pretty mean at BASIC and COBOL.
5. How did your last argument turn out?
I convinced a coworker that in fact, my interpretation of the Land Development Code was correct and that residential compatibility standards were measured from the triggering lot line, not from the structure. Mostly I just didn't like being called out in front of bunch of folks as being wrong, when I knew I wasn't. I have no idea why she decided to make a big deal out of this minor point.

2. Has your weight changed much since quitting the cigs? (Kudos on one month, by the way!)
3. Do you have a favorite movie director?
4. Have you ever lived completely on your own, without pets or roommates?
5. What is your favorite "simple pleasure" and when was the last time you indulged?

Date: 2006-08-05 08:54 pm (UTC)2. i dropped a couple of pounds the first week, and i've held steady since then. i think i may have picked up a lb or two this week though.
3. nope. i like what i like; i don't care who makes it.
4. mmmmm. no. the few months i managed without a roomie, i already had owen and the kitten. no wait! very briefly, maybe three or four months, in my first apartment. i didn't get my baby girl until after matt moved in. (i didn't exactly ask if he cared before hand either. oops.)
5. i have so many. really, most of my pleasures are simple :). i love to swing on the playground...did that about two weeks ago. took owen with me, less swinging, but much much funnier! i also like to walk barefoot on the beach, plant things in the garden, and walk around in a good down pour. i haven't done any of those in awhile though.

great questions
Date: 2006-08-10 11:35 pm (UTC)Oh my. I think it's jammies. I've been buying Avon pajamas for close to 10 years now. Eventhough they've changed suppliers/manufacturers, they still remain well made and very comfy.
2. who is the most famous person that you've met? stevie wonder. i'm thinking he's more famous than bill clinton. lol
3. where would you most like to be in 10 years? i would like to be in an equilibrium in my life in 10 years. i'd like to have a nice balance in my spirtual, love, emotional, and physical self.
4. what is the most recent accomplisment that you're proud of? recently, i've been most proud of not saying what i'm thinking, especially at work. curbing my tongue and squashing my temper. i don't know if that's an accomplishment, but i am proud of it.
5. who made the biggest positive difference in your life?
honestly, i think that would be my 3rd grade teacher. though she definitely negatively impacted me, she's the first person to tell me that i wasn't stupid. up until then i believed i was dumb.

Date: 2006-08-22 01:15 pm (UTC)http://www.pettravel.com is my favorite pet travel site. Gives you information on what each airline allows -- pet in the passenger area, or cargo area only. Someone on my list puts his cat under the passenger seat on Delta - a couple of times a year. He says never been a problem.
I have one of the hard carriers that specifically fits under an airline seat. Was cheap. Newt would have decent room to move around in it, but not stand completely up straight.
I've traveled with one of my old Poodles on one of those mini planes that some airlines use for jaunts between small sities. I couldn't put him UNDER the seats..so he went in cargo, which is RIGHT behind the few passengers on the plane. He WAILED the entire time...everyone could hear him.
I also sent one of my cats via Delta air cargo (I had no choice...we were in the military). I was scared to death they would lose him -- but he was fine. STill don't trust cargo travel though. :(

"Applewood smoked bacon, grilled chicken and Mozzarella cheese, hearth-baked then topped with Roma tomatoes, chilled chopped lettuce tossed in mayonnaise and fresh sliced avocados.
I expected it to be bland...but was fully surprised at how good it was. I don't like mayo -- so that would be freaky. No...was excellent!
