Another one to add to "reasons I wish I could copy images/sounds seen directly to paper with photo-realistic accuracy" list.

Sitting on the porch, daydreaming and idly stroking newton, I look at one of the palm trees trees by the lake. see a coconut drop, and for a split second notice that on top of the coconut, riding the 15 foot or so drop is a medium-small sized iguana... he leapt off before the brown, furry ball hit the water, and did a belly-flop of his own into the drink about a foot to the left of the fallen tree-fruit.

The twin splashes cause about a dozen ibis to launch up and out over the water.

I think I'm the only one who saw it... nobody down by the pool or walking around the lake from my vantage point, anyhow.. it was a visual treat, but all took place before I could even think of retrieving the camera from its pouch. Even Newt was oblivious, licking a pawGeotarget

Oh my goodness! If a coconut with an iguana on it falls does it mean it really happened..
Just funnin' with you.
I love the Newt pics in the cam lately..just wish it was live feed...ok..I know that is asking too much.

I've toyed with the idea of a live feed, but then a lot of it would be time with Newton not on screen... maybe keep a "last activity" still underneath?

looks like fatima moved the cam again while dusting!

I know that if I was ever stranded here, I could live on big ol' iguanas, turtles, fish, birds and coconuts for a long time!

Don't forget to ask Fatima if she irons..remember?
How can I remember that and not my important stuff?

Thanks for the reminder!!

Don't forget to give Ed smooches! :D

Hey, I never have to be reminded to do that, silly!
Remember to pet Newt...heee.

I remember living in Jacksonville and spending every morning along the water edge just gazing at the boats and wildlife. I think I was the calmest I've ever been in my life. You, my dear, are the fortunate one!

Newt is so domesticated now that his natural instinct of predator for small lizards has disappeared. lol

I am very blessed.

Well, I don't know about the domesticated side of things... if the lizard was closer than about 20 feet away, it might have set him off... but he is more partial to his crinkly toys these days. :)

We have the technology....

You HAVE to make a little animated-drawing film of this! It would be SO cool!

I forgot to mention it but I read an article the other week about an island in FL tha thas become overrun with iguanas and now they need to take action to control the population. Apparently, according to the article, they aren't a native species.

I guess its better than Philadelphia which is overrun with Ben Franklin impersonators.

Sakes... I hate to have to have to call control up to get all the damn Ben Franklins out of the pool filters!

From: [identity profile] blackhellkat.livejournal.com
Oh they are a nasty bunch too----chattering incessantly, drinking ale, cleaning their bi-focals and leaving their self-printed almancs everywhere. I think they should be rounded up and put in a ring with FL's iguanas---some Franklin impersonator on iguana to the death matches!

hmm.. that would be something.. swim fins and public libraries, vs the most indectious herpetological germs available!

seriously that match is to close to call---iguanas are scrappy but they don't seem like the most stable coconut on the tree.

Yeha fun but good way to go splat---see not so smart I think---but I dunno--I'm certain a newbie at the iguana thing.

I wish you would draw up this incident and animate it---I think it'd be hilariously cute.

yikes.. that's two requests!

Maybe I'll do it on my morning bus ride to work!

Yes yes animate it! I'd like to see that too! I've always read your journal for the great iguana pictures being part iguana myself.

P.s. I don't know what that nutter Blackhellkat was talking about---we could totally outsmart Ben Franklin.

Better be careful or iguanas and sleestack years from now will still be responding to this post in a mesage-board type fashion ;D

This reminded me of a record my dad had when I was a kid. I Googled for the lyrics, but only found this fragment:
"Go and sit beneath a coconut tree
Let a coconut fall on your head
You can have a dream the same as me
Better than the dreams you have in bed"
It's only in Google's cache, the actual web page having gone missing.

The near-absence of this song from the Internet means the song probably isn't even in Dr. Demento's collection. His fans have web sites that list virtually everything he's ever played.

The cached page is actually a discussion about some sort of tree-related equivalent of astrology I've never heard of before. Nothing on it about hitchhiking iguanas, though.
