On July 28, 1998 Koko was featured on an episode of Mister Roger's Neighborhood. Koko thoroughly enjoyed her videotaping session with Fred Rogers, host of the show, as you'll see in this video.

Koko and Michael had been watching Mister Rogers on TV for years, and she worshiped him (Michael referred to Mister Rogers as "head boy").

The episode featuring Koko was shown during a special week-long series entitled "You and I Together" and focused on the topic of "accepting differences" — that there is more to a person (or gorilla) than what you see on their "outsides."

Koko and the Gorilla Foundation will always admire Fred Rogers for the positive and inspiring messages he conveyed to kids, and we were glad to be able to send such a message together.

Walkies yesterday led me to the dollar store, where I bought two presents for Newton... left over stuffed monster plushies from halloween. Not bad for $1 each.. I got him a Gill man (Creature from the black lagoon) and a Mummy. The reasoning being that they're the most likely prey: the gill-man is practically a fish, and you know how Egyptian undead and cats mix, dear journal.(plus, they're my favorite of the available group... the Dracula, phantom of the opera and Frankenstein didn't tickle my fancy. No wolfman to be seen!)

It rained off and on all day, but I managed to stay drier than wet.

Speaking of which, Danny may be going to the ren-fest next weekend with his students... I'm wondering how well it'll do if the wet season keeps up

I can't believe its been three years since Fred passed away. I'm definitely not one to bemoan the deaths of celebrities, but I've always felt a deep sense of sadness about the loss of Mister Rogers (when they eulogized him on the Emmys, I cried like a baby...I never do that). He was a humanitarian (and a gorillatarian too, apparently) first and foremost...not just a "TV star."
