Ground Rules:
The first player of this "game" starts with the topic "5 weird habits of yours" and people who get tagged need to write an LJ entry about their 5 quirky habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 5 people to be tagged and list their names.

1. I carry little trinkets that connect me to things I love. There's a Newt whisker in my palmtop case, and a key to a bike lock that my dad gave me when I was a kid on my keyring. (the lock is long since gone)

2. I don't have a set preference for order of putting shoes and socks on... I put the nearest one on first. I've been told that's odd. I'll do left first, or right first, doesn't matter. also I'll do sock-shoe/sock-shoe or sock-sock-shoe shoe. I also dress in order of convenience.. shirt first/ or pants first, whatever is closest.

3. I think people are physically more or less attractive depending on how much I like their personalities.

4. I talk to kids like they're adults, and they seem to really appreciate it. When I talk to some adults, I'll raise the pitch of my voice a little bit to put them more at ease. This is not deliberate, but habit. it also seems to work.

5. I smile at strangers, and tallly the responses. This morning, I got two good smiles back, five 1000-yard-stares, and three acknowledged but quick look-aways.

I completely agree with #3 and I also have the habit of talking to kids like adults.
I can't stand baby talk, especailly seeing it when the child in questions is a big kid, not a baby. and I remember what it was like to feel like people were talking down to me. I hated that.

OK, so a pirate walks into a bar. The bartender notices that stuffed in the pirate's pants is a steering wheel, so he asks the pirate, "You know there's a steering wheel in your pants, right?"

Again, it's nice. I have had experiences where my perception of people's appearances have changed radically after I got to know them.

For the most part it works that way. I remember my roommate in college freshman year had a boyfriend who I thought looked EXACTLY like a toad in human form. After a few weeks, I couldn't remember why I had thought that at all. He was just the best guy. Sometimes it works the opposite with women...Those who seem beautiful get, well, uglier once you get to know them.
