Yupperdoodle... I was pretty much pointing to the most goofy example of comics that I'd seen in a long while.
I still don't really "get" the idea of pop art outside the idea of the ironic. (Heck, I have some issues with abstract impressionism and cubism, too, but that's an entry for another day.)
That said, I do like the big, bold colors and print-matrix style of his stuff.
I didn't say I liked it either..just that people consider it so much the art form that they are willing to pay big bux for the stuff. I think some of it is good but like you..I have issues too.
Me too!---I almost bought "A Mess of Mermaids" just now but I haven't hung up some of the other art I bought unframed yet--so it probably isn't a good idea to buy more.
I have an odd print by him that isn't on the web site--its an old print from th e80's of Queen Elizabeth holding a giant fish in front of the cape hatteras light house---actually none of th epictures I have of his are on the web site! Poo
I have not seen a Hello Kitty bento box--but I have seen Hello Kitty sushi---I swear that cat is a meglomaniac set to take over the world because she is EVERYWHERE---she's probably stock piling Weapons of Mass Destruction in her Hello Kitty lair.
On the PC game I play(world of warcraft) there's a suggestion forum. I've already said I'd like to see moomins and marshmallows. I wonder what kind of response I'd get if I said I wanted to see HK in Ironforge (a huge forge in a big fantasy RPG city)! ha ha ha ha!

Date: 2006-01-15 08:17 pm (UTC)and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
and a dark wind blows
the government is corrupt
and we're on so many drugs
with the radio on and the curtains drawn
we're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
and the machine is bleeding to death
the sun has fallen down
and the billboards are all leering
and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles
it went like this:
the buildings tumbled in on themselves
mothers clutching babies picked through the rubble
and pulled out their hair
the skyline was beautiful on fire
all twisted metal stretching upwards
everything washed in a thin orange haze
i said: "kiss me, you're beautiful --
these are truly the last days"
you grabbed my hand and we fell into it
like a daydream or a fever
we woke up one morning and fell a little further down --
for sure it's the valley of death
i open up my wallet
and it's full of blood
