GeotargetKong is indeed king. Three hours of superbly done movie.

... and Graypumpkin is right... Skull Island *is* a close second to Australia for "Danger around every corner" territory. There were times where it was downright hellish. I do NOT advise taking little ones to see the "big funny monkey". Predators acted and moved like predators. This is the first movie to actually thrill me in a very long time. Quite immersing, Jack Black was a great "love to hate" sort of fellow. The only thing I would change is that I'd get rid of the "Kong's Christmas Ice-capades" segment, as it seemed quite out of place with the rest of the flick. I commend Jackson for the way he handled Kong's big hit on Broadway and all of the nods to the original film, too. The Heart of Darkness comparisons work pretty well, too... right down to the fog surrounding skull island vs Marlow's steamer caught in the same sort of stuff. I wasn't expecting that aspect, and I really liked it. "It's not an adventure story, is it, Mr. Hayes?" "No, Jimmy, it's not." Kind of weird to see Jet girl playing Fay Wray's part, but she did quite well.

Kudos on the Awesome, Mr. Jackson!

Another reason I dig the mighty boosh - "The encounter left him crushed and lifeless, like crisps under bison"

Glad to hear you liked Kong, I agree with you're Ice-capades assessment and I also dug the Joseph Conrad references. I thought the movie did a great job of being both update/revising and loving homage.

Kong and Ann doing dancing away to Yankee Doodle Dandy under a hail of red, white and blue fireworks.

Poor Kathleen had her face buried in my shoulder during the whole bug scene.
As you probably know that scene seems to be Jackson’s take on the rumored spider scene from the original that was either never filmed or filmed but cut out of the movie because it was too much for the audiences of the time.
I was recently reading an article in the paper about these folks putting on a live Kong radio show before an audience in town, they apparently made the script from a novilization of the movie which has fallen into public domain and the spider scene was in the novelization so perhaps the rumor was true. In any case Jackson’s take on it was a treat to watch.

some spiffy shots of the lost spider scene.

I bet Kathleen did! I must've said "JEEZ!" about 4 times, m'self.

I'm not sure they'll get the tech much more realistic than kong's... it worked very well, indeed!

Kong *would* look dapper in striped pants and an uncle sam top hat!

It was a pretty solid 3 acts... the setup, skull island and New york all were really well done.

The weird thing was that I didn't even realise it was wintertime in new york until the whole weird winter wonderland song and dance nonsense. Makes me think that if it was a summer blockbuster that they'd have stuffed some cheezy 4th of july bit in there for no reason.

Skull island was friggin' insane... the bug scene really was something out of a cthulhu nightmare.
