7960 - No Newt-pics for Dubai?
Nov. 28th, 2005 07:50 amSorry, sedef & family.. if you want to see pictures of my new place, I'll have to email 'em to you, because Flickr has been blocked by the UAE government censors for the second time. Blame it on Etisalat (state monopoly teloc), blame it on the TRA (UAE Telecoms Regulatory Authority) the result is the same: no more Flickr for Dubaians.

Date: 2005-11-28 01:59 pm (UTC)I'm not in the UAE. but this happens a lot. for a while saudi blocked lj, and now we have it. but it depends on which service you use.
they block really idiotic things, one guy complained that his town website was blocked because "sex" was in the name. something like ..middlesex (can't remember)
I think it's all pretty ridiculous.
if you go to a website that's banned it has these big words that say "FORBIDDEN!"
so you kinda feel bad even thought you weren't searching anything naughty.

by the way, congrats on your new place! it looks awesome! I'm so happy for you and the newt-man!

I saw something about someone in China being thrown in jail for something on the net recently. Dating site that they snuck onto, or something maybe? Can't remember.
