John Lithgow's new Campbell's Soups commercials are sort of sad.

Apartment got pretty heated again last night... nearly impossible to get any rest... Newt's in great shape, but I was sweating far too much. Not enough voltage to run a tiny box fan.I'm really happy that this didn't happen in July, or it would be a health hazard. Cool Showers work wonders.

Random Memory... whenever a propeller plane would fly overhead, my buddy Jason and I would yell "STUKA!!" and run for cover, as if it might go after us on a strafing run. I was 7 years old, and I think it was a side effect of my pop's fondness for WWII documentaries that inspired the game. It seems sort of weird, looking at it under current context.... 40 years from now, will I see kids play-acting at the trade-center bombing, or other major world event, or will most of my life history fade into a blur? I'm not sure what defines my generation... Movies? Star wars and Star Trek got milked to the point of making them weak jokes. Harry Potter, maybe? Somehow, I suspect those books won't be so much in vogue down the line... but the old standards of playing war have a strong vibe. I doubt kids'll play "Iraq war" any more than I played "Vietnam" or "Korea". WWII and to a lesser degree, WWI both have something very powerful going for them that isn't easy to replicate. Other history-genres that seem timeless are Dinosaurs, Pirates, Knights and the Wild West... Cyberpunk and even pulp seem to be little subsets that'll probably never get rolling again.

Those soup commercials are VERY sad. What's with that? I think the concept must have been presented differently for him to have participated in that. It makes me uncomfortable every time I see one.

Funny that you mention it. I just love John Lithgow, so I stop whatever I'm doing when the commerical comes on, to check it out.

But, had you asked me before now, what the commerical is about, I couldn't tell you anything other than, "A food item...but I don't know which". I also *don't* have any idea what the storyline of the commerical is. I just remember him. I'll have to pay attention now, so that I can see what's sad about it!

I like that you post memories. It's rare for most people on my own list to do that...and something I've wondered about (why it doesn't happen). I like doing it too... so it's yet another reason why I like ya. :0)

John lithgow is really super cool, which is why I like seeing the commercials, but the commercials themselves are poopy-bleh.

There's not really a storyline, just this guy who loves him some tasty soup.

I'm glad that you dig memories... it's funny to me what sets 'em off. I don't know why more folks don't reminisce.

You're just ginchy, too!

On Martha Stewart Apprentice, the teams had to put together packages for people to bid on in an auction for pet charity. You bid on time with a celeb & their pet(s). Like -- spa day with Susan Lucci & her dog, hang out with Merv griffin & his dog, etc. John Lithgow's was to walk on to the stage of his stage play with your dog (I think). He seemed really nifty, just like I thought he would. But the prize didn't sound that fun. I'd rather just hang out with John & his pet, for some interesting conversation. :0)

Your journal is massively indexed throughout Google. If John does Google vanity searches like some people do, he might come across us talking about him. So...Hi, John! :D

Hmm..I don't either. I have noticed that some people are annoyed by reminiscing, & then there are those who just don't care ("it's worthless", "what for?") that sort of thing. I like peeps who are at least somewhat interested in path events (unless they've been hurt), because it tells me a lot about them.

Fruedian slip...with "path events". I was actually thinking about paths, when I typed that.

I meant to type "past events".

I'd love for Lithgow to meet Newt! Finally, he'll understand why I call him "monkeyboy".

Why you call Jon "monkeyboy", or Newt??

Newt!

Lithgow's line in Buckaroo Bonsai was "Laugh while you can, Monkeyboy!"

As I've aged I appreciate the "gentleness" of Harrison's solo work much much more--My Sweet Lord is a definite favorite.

One of the tricks I used to use when dealing with hot weather sleeping (and no AC)---run a t-shirt under cool water until it is soaked-then wring it out really well and wear it to bed---although this works best when there is a fan running and some breeze is circulating onto the shirt.

When we were little and a plane flew low overhead, my little sister would scream "incoming" and hit the dirt. Seriously. She would watch WW 2 movies with my dad when he came home late from the hospital. With me it was Tarzan, and I had a HUGE fear of luaus (how the hell do you spell that?). I was sure that the natives would kill and cook us as soon as the festive dancing and music were through.

See... that's tons of fun! (though for some reason, "incoming" makes me think of wounded being brought to an army hospital.. toomany episodes of M*A*S*H I think.)

Tarzan was a classic, but I didn't think the natives were nearly so dangerous as the alligators!

Probably not, but I didn't know it at the time. There was an unfortunate incident at the Polynesian Village at Disney World.
