Mehrzweckflugzeugausschreibung.

I love that word.

I could say it all day long.

Mehrzweckflugzeugausschreibung. Mehrzweckflugzeugausschreibung. Mehrzweckflugzeugausschreibung.

Translates roughly to "Multi-purpose fighter advertisement."

Mehrzweckflugzeugausschreibung.

That's my word of the day. I love the German language.

I also like to say "Yucca Flats" and "Ricardo Montalban".

Do you speak German fluently?

Do you want to meet someone who also loves the German language but is not German but is very cool?

Are you coming to my wedding?

When are you going to tell me your life story? ;)
From: [identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com
Not fluent.. I speak/read about as well as a first or second grader. I could survive, but meaningful, deep conversation wouldn't happen.

Sure, I'd love to meet very cool people!

I'd like to come to your wedding, but I won't be able to do so for sure until I get more techs to work weekends. (I might be able to go, but the future is very vague, so I can't commit.)

My life story? You get it day by day right here! What did you want to know? ;)

[livejournal.com profile] justdana is on my friends list and a fellow lover of the German language. I think you guys would get along peachily. =) She is one of my close friends & her daughter will be the flower girl in my wedding. She's in my wedding party as the Child Coordinator. =D

Sounds good. If I can bribe your techs in any way, let me know. ;)

Yes, but how did you get here? =)
From: [identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com
I'll check her out! I look forward to reading her journal in the near future. :)

How did I get here?

Hm, well, I found livejournal by way of anacam.com, way back in the olden days of LJ... (I'm one of the early-early adopters.) I'd kept a personal log for a while, and thought that hosting it on the net via a third party could be fun! That was in May of 2000... I really got to doing at least an entry a day or more by August 2000, and the habit's stuck ever since!

P.S.

German is awesome! Their compound words are really compound phrases, which I think is so cool. I know I've mentioned this, but the longest word my German teacher taught us was Windschutzscheibenwischer, which means windshield wiper.

I have that beaten...

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovocanoconiosis.

I learnt how to pronounce that when I was 15 and it took me about 3 weeks to do. I still remember how to and that learning it drove my sanity score right down.

For reference it is a coal miners lung disease brought about by breathing in coal dust. Its also the longest word in the English language.

PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCONIOSIS (also spelled PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOKONIOSIS) = a lung disease caused by breathing in particles of siliceous volcanic dust.

This is the longest word in any English dictionary. However, it was coined by Everett Smith, the President of The National Puzzlers' League, in 1935 purely for the purpose of inventing a new "longest word". The Oxford English Dictionary described the word as factitious. Nevertheless it also appears in the Webster's, Random House, and Chambers dictionaries.

The Guinness Book of Records, in its 1992 and subsequent editions, declared the "longest real word" in the English language to be floccinaucinihilipilification at 29 letters. Defined as the act of estimating (something) as worthless, its usage has been recorded as far back as 1741.

Lordy, that's enough to make anybody stutter!

Oh, and I've also been to Webster Lake, whos indian name was -

Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg is an unofficial name of Lake Chaubunagungamaug east of Webster, Massachusetts. The Nipmucks and other tribes gave it a variety of similar names. Most people call it Webster Lake, because they can't pronounce the Nipmuck name, but others, including many residents of Webster, take pride in reeling off the Nipmuck version.

The Websterites are quite good at it, but they're genetically and geographically predisposed to doing so.
