Family isn't getting together... he's made other plans. That sort of hurt the momster's feelings. I may do something with her anyway... we'll see. I suspect she'll be in a mood and will skip, too. She's going to Washington State this weekend to take care of some business, so I think bro dropped the ball on this one.

May go with her to Deerfield to try for that condo again.

I've been getting regular power spikes lately.. usually one at about midday, and another about 8:30pm or so. strong enough to cause the hub to hiccup or cycle my system. Pretty annoying...I'm going to pick up a new ups to see if that solves the issue. It's strong enough to dim the lights.. it's like they're executing prisoners with old sparky on my line.

[Poll #578263]

Moment of lyric: (mp3 - thanks, Dani!)

Home is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me round
I feel numb - born with a weak heart
I guess I must be having fun
The less we say about it the better
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground
Head in the sky
It's ok I know nothing's wrong... nothing

Hi yo I got plenty of time
Hi yo you got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money
Always for love
Cover up and say goodnight... say goodnight

Home - is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home - she lifted up her wings
Guess that this must be the place
I can't tell one from another
Did I find you, or you find me?
There was a time Before we were born
If someone asks, this where I'll be... where I'll be

Hi yo We drift in and out
Hi yo sing into my mouth
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me 'til I'm dead
Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head Ah ooh

I said yes to the waste of resource question but I also think it would make it really hard to do the crossword puzzles.

I just wish there weren't so many friggin ads. That seems like the biggest waste of paper to me, because unless there are coupons or something, no one really reads that shit.

I wonder how well a $.10 crossword vending machine would do next to the $.35 newspapers?

The ads are crazy... I suspect that's what contributed to internet pollution.

also, my brain read your nom de plume as "fattlestar batlactica."

which made me think of chubby bats drinking milk.

Not everyone has access to online resources. I also think that kids benefit from reading an actual newspaper.

I can agree with that... I was wondering how much TV and Radio has taken over the rags, now.

I think they have taken over quite alot. I read books in the morning, then when I get to work, I go online to read the newspapers, CNN, NYT, our local NBC affiliate.. It's so easy...maybe that's not a good thing? AHA! I have another point. The news changes so rapidly within a day, and a newspaper has time constraints. I think people begin to rely on being kept continuously up to date via other media. Maybe I'm NOT lazy :)

Gryphon Banner
You're a gryphon. You're very powerful without
needing to brag about it. Creativity is one of
your strong suits. Your outward personality may
change drastically according to your mood,
which is not always a good thing. You're a
loyal guardian when you choose to be and you're
aligned towards *good*.

I greatly prefer newspapers. For some reason, I consider them to be a more legitimate source of news. I've become quite the skeptic when it comes to honesty on the internet.

I don't blame you a bit... I take everything I read on- and off-line with a grain of salt.

Every news Item that I've personally been in the know about has been published with incorrect facts, on tv and in print.

i read the free weekly rag at my local coffee shop and then return it to the rack. i get the NYT online. occasionally, if someone leaves one lying around, i'll pick it up and read it.

the Sunday New York Times alone uses 25,000 trees a week.

that is a frightening statistic.. figure in shipping fuel and so on, and you've got a real environmental issue.

Thanks! I think that a cheaper price for just sections folks want might be a way to ge t ahappy medium - $.10 for the sports/comics section, $.10 for the classefieds, etc.

I don't believe a hard copy of the newspaper has become obsolete.. *yet*. Not everyone has access to the internet, and some simply are unable to utilize a computer for various reasons. Additionally, power sources can be unstable at times, prohibiting the use of any sort of electronic media. Will they *become* obsolete at some point? Probably. But maybe not. I much prefer to read hard copies of literature (including newspapers) due to their portability and accessability. For now. :)

They are very easy to use and are in a format most people can afford... I wonder if maybe selling them piecemeal might be a happy middle ground? Charge more for the sports section and funnies, less for less popular parts?

might save a few trees in the process?

From: [identity profile] persephoria.livejournal.com
That is a good idea. When you stop to consider it, however, advertisers take up the most space in the paper. Perhaps do away with advertising (or cut back, at least) in favor of a higher-priced paper, purchased by section? I think we'd save a lot more trees if we didn't have ten million inserts and glossy colored crap stuck in every other page. But would that be financially feasible? A great amount of revenue comes from those annoying ads...

I guess it all depends... I'd rathe pay to get a signal to noise filter. it depends on how much bang for my buck, I suppose. :)
