A person commits enticement of a minor over the Internet when, not amounting to an attempt, conspiracy, or solicitation under Section 76-4-101, 76-4-201, or 76-4-203, the person knowingly uses a computer to solicit, seduce, lure, or entice, or attempt to solicit, seduce, lure, or entice a minor or a person the defendant believes to be a minor to engage in any sexual activity which is a violation of state criminal law.
Wow...there are 9 Lvl 2 offenders in my town. Considering my town is only a whopping 6 sq. miles, that's rather freaky. Wish I could get more details online regarding where they are...
Massachusetts is very much a "offender's rights" rather than "victim's rights" sort of state. You should be able to contact your local law enforcement in person to get more information.
Massachusetts needs to get its priorities straight, but that's a topic for another time. :)
I may just go and contact the police to find out more about who is in my neighbourhood. I'm a small woman and my dog is a big woosie, so someone needs to look out for me!
Any member of the public who is at least 18 years of age or older may request sex offender information. The information will be provided to any person who is seeking the information for his/her own protection or for the protection of a child under the age of 18 or for the protection of another person whom the requesting person has responsibility, care, or custody.
Keen...I'll grab the PDF and fax it over to them. Good info to know since there's a good chance I'll be at my house awhile longer than expected and I want to know who's oogling me or my kids, when I have them.
When I first looked eariler today, there was one 2-3 doors down from us... but now that one's not there... bizarre. There's also a woman listed for our town.
At least I can feel mostly safe... all these sick f*ers like kiddies rather than adults. Ah, Kansas. All for the good of the children. *gag*
Thank you for that. I've seen that it's out there but I hadn't gotten around to looking at the listing. How creepy is it that in the same building nearby 3 different offenders live, and they all have offenses listed as CONTINUOUS SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILD and LEWD OR LASCIVIOUS ACTS WITH CHILD UNDER 14 YEARS. How freaking creepy. Luckily I live in a fairly wealthy condo complex so I don't have any as close neighbors.
don't count on weath knocking out the danger-types. I just did an overview of a friend in the palm beachs... lots of green there, and she had a child pornographer living three doors down.
Basically, an offender is anyone who committed something designated as a felony sex offense (lewd behavior, or going to a prostitute are misdemeanors, and generally won't count against them, unless it's part of a greater charge)
A predator is a person who committed multiple felonies within 10 years of each other.. a serial rapist, or someone arrested for multiple counts of child pornography, for example.
the official legal answer -
To be designated as a predator, the subject must have been found by the court to be a sexual predator. Florida law requires a written court finding for sexual predator status. Sexual predator designation only applies to sex offenses committed on or after October 1, 1993. In addition, the subject must have been convicted of either one first-degree felony sex crime, or two second degree felony sex crimes. In the latter situation, the second offense must occur within 10 years of the previous offense, conviction, or release from the sanction of the court, whichever is later. See F.S. 775.21(3) for additional information regarding sexual predators.
The sex offender designation applies to any listed sex offense, regardless of the date the offense was committed, for which an offender is being released on or after October 1, 1997 from the "sanction imposed" for the offense, or, is currently under the care, custody, or control of the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC). "Sanction imposed" includes, but is not limited to, a fine, probation, community control, parole, and conditional release, control release or incarceration. See F.S. 943.0435(12) for additional information regarding sexual predators.
This law was prospective rather than retroactive. If the subject was released from sanctions before the October 1, 1997 date, the subject is not required to register
i found a dude who lived near the granny. we knew he was an offender but when I looked him up I saw predator and then I wondered what the difference was. that's really creepy. especially since he looks so happy in his pic. yikes.
thanks for sharing this, it's a good thing to know.

Date: 2005-07-08 05:21 pm (UTC)I was told by nosy neighbors that there was a sex offender in the house, but I always thought it was someone different, one of his house-guests.
I wonder what "enticing a minor over the internet" means?
He also doesn't return tools that he borrows!
