Yesterday was headache-y, but ok. Mp, Newt and I just sort of flopped around and slept off and on. There's something to be said about curling up in a little knot and just sleeping the day away inside while the rain pounds outdoors.

Lapjuicer - "The Lapjuicer is intended to be used by a lap-dancer in a club. The performer uses their body with the object, in order to extract fruit juices that can be drunk by one or more spectators."

Good Grief. Who comes up with these things?!? probably not safe for work.

Gerald McBoing Boing tells the story of a small boy who when he first tries to talk can only utter sound effects like 'Boing! Boing! His parents are shocked and call in a doctor who says he has no cure for the noises.

Great classic cartoon.. I had the storybook when I was but a tiny little Scotto.

One Saturday I took a walk to Zipperhead
I met a girl there
And she almost knocked me dead
Punk rock girl please look at me
Punk rock girl what do you see?
Let's travel round the world
Just you and me punk rock girl

I tapped her on the shoulder
And said do you have a beau?
She looked at me and smiled
And said she did not know
Punk rock girl give me a chance
Punk rock girl let's go slamdance
We'll dress like Minnie Pearl
Just you and me punk rock girl

We went to the Philly Pizza Company
And ordered some hot tea
The waitress said "Well no
We only have it iced"
So we jumped up on the table
And shouted "anarchy"
And someone played a Beach Boys song
On the jukebox
It was "California Dreamin'"
So we started screamin'
"On such a winter's day"

She took me to her parents
For a Sunday meal
Her father took one look at me
And he began to squeal
Punk rock girl it makes no sense
Punk rock girl your dad is the Vice President
Rich as the Duke of Earl
Yeah you're for me punk rock girl

We went to a shopping mall
And laughed at all the shoppers
And security guards trailed us
To a record shop
We asked for Mojo Nixon
They said "He don't work here"
We said "If you don't got Mojo Nixon
Then your store could use some fixin'"

We got into a car
Away we started rollin'
I said "How much you pay for this?"
She said "Nothing man, it's stolen"
Punk rock girl you look so wild
Punk rock girl let's have a child
We'll name her Minnie Pearl
Just you and me
Eating fudge banana swirl
Just you and me
We'll travel round the world
Just you and me punk rock girl

He grabbed girl's arm -- now he's a sex offender

Fitzroy Barnaby said he had to swerve to avoid hitting the 14-year-old Des Plaines girl who walked in front of his car.

She said he yelled, "Come here, little girl," before getting out of his car and grabbing her by the arm.

He said he simply lectured her.

She said she broke free and ran, fearful of what he'd do next.

In a Thursday ruling, the Appellate Court of Illinois said the 28-year-old Evanston man must register as a sex offender.

While acknowledging it might be "unfair for [Barnaby] to suffer the stigmatization of being labeled a sex offender when his crime was not sexually motivated," the court said his actions are the type that are "often a precursor" to a child being abducted or molested.

Though Barnaby was acquitted of attempted kidnapping and child abduction charges stemming from the November 2002 incident, he was convicted of unlawful restraint of a minor -- which is a sex offense.

'Most stupid ruling'

Now, he will have to tell local police where he lives and won't be able to live near a park or school.

"This is the most stupid ruling the appellate court has rendered in years," said Barnaby's Chicago attorney, Frederick Cohn. "If you see a 15-year-old beating up your 8-year-old and you grab that kid's hand and are found guilty of unlawful restraint, do you now have to register as a sex offender?"

But Cook County state's attorney spokesman Tom Stanton said Barnaby should have to register "because of the proclivity of offenders who restrain children to also commit sex acts or other crimes against them."

In the criminal case against him, Cook County Judge Patrick Morse said that "it's more likely than not" Barnaby planned only "to chastise the girl" when he grabbed her, but "I can't read his mind."

"I don't really see the purpose of registration in this case. I really don't," Morse said. "But I feel that I am constrained by the statute."

Recognizing the stigma that comes with being labeled as a sex offender, the appellate court said "it is [Barnaby's] actions which have caused him to be stigmatized, not the courts."

The Gerald McBoing Boing cartoons appear on the special edition DVD of Hellboy. The first one is quite clever the other two are aweful.

The DVD also has the Tell-Tale Heart as well. Again very well done.

I blame the SMG. Makes shooting the zombies that much more difficult. Though for me, it was mainly walking around a corner and hitting a zombie direct face to face and being killed outright.

Lapjuicer hahahahaha. Man I want one.

Also, I read this post from years back:

I'd want one to introduce in completely inappropriate situations. Not that there really is an appropriate time for juicing an orange wedged between one's buttcheeks. I'd like offer someone some lemonade and not tell them the awful scene they'll have to endure to get it. And then probably do that horrible "Milk, milk, lemonade" chant. Man that would be hilarious for like 5 seconds.

Well you could offer them juice first, and then ask if they'd like to check out the bread machine. ;)

If they know that you're about
Cause they couldn't match the glow of your eyes
And, oh, who am I?
Just an ordinary guy
Trying hard to win me first prize
Oh my Candida
We could make it together
The further from here girl the better
Where the air is fresh and clean
Oh my Candida
Just take my hand and I'll lead ya
I promise that life will be sweeter
'Cause it said so in my dreams
The future looks bright
The gypsy told me so last night
Said she saw our children playing in the sunshine
And there were you and I
In a house, Baby
No lie
And all these things were yours
And they were mine
Oh my Candida
We could make it together
The further from here girl the better
Where the air is fresh and clean
Oh my Candida
Just take my hand and I'll lead ya
I promise that life will be sweeter
'Cause it said so in my dreams

Lapjuicer?! I bet everyone cheers when someone drinks the juice squeezed by a tush. Funny..but kinda sad. ;)

"because of the proclivity of offenders who restrain children to also commit sex acts or other crimes against them."

I bet I don't know anyone who has any clue that grabbing a kid by the arm constitutes a sex offense. Uh..maybe the government should let people know before busting people for it? The guy was probably running on adenaline from being scared that he almost killed a child.

Are they gonna start busting random, innocent adults for speaking, staring intensely or using the "come here" signal with their index finger, like some offenders do, too?

Date: 2005-07-03 03:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com
The lapjuicer is only the beginning, I'm sure!

My big worry about that whole sex offender thing is that it will water down the seriousness of *actual* offenders, plus, this guy is going to have that label on him following him for the rest of his life.

When you see something like "unlawful restraint of a minor", my first thoughts are deeper and darker than holding someone by the arm. when the flyers go out, that's all it will say.

My org sends out alert cals to neighborhoods when a sexual offender moves into the area, to protec tthe kids... but this guy... is is life going to be wrecked as a result?

People are confusing in this world...

Date: 2005-07-03 06:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] juliabee.livejournal.com
Woo..I forgot about the flyers your company sends out! I feel bad for the guy... just knowing those flyers will go out (& what can you do really), makes my head spin with many things this guy could go through. Many people don't pay attention to local news.

I want to know what info we're missing on the parents. If my kid told me she was almost hit, and a guy grabbed her arm & lectured her --- I would ask her extremely detailed questions.

If she worried he would do something "else" (smart kid), I would probe further. He didn't kick/slap/hit/touch or speak to her in a *sexually* inappropriate manner. No, I don't want random peeps just touching my kids in the grocery store line - but in this case, I would understand he didn't want my kid DEAD. So...why did they go to the cops? Did the parents focus on the arm grabbing as physical abuse, instead of what was really at hand? (A man who was probably worried he almost killed someone).

You mentioned a worry that this waters down the seriousness of real offenders. Good point. I can imagine the little girl's focus is now on news articles, etc --- and probably not much on what SHE did.

well, we don't do flyers, exactly, we telephone everyone ithin a half-mile radius (or more) with a message, to let 'em know that there's a sexual offender in the neighborhood.

I'm not sure where this will go, but I'm sure this isn't the last I'll hear of it.

Ahh. I read it wrong. :0)

If he moves to my neighborhood...we've received a postcard with the guy's actual photo, his address & a mention of what he did. "Sexual something something" and it's left at that.

I do too. But that's the thing..not everyone is like us. They don't care about any details. They see something, come to their own conclusion - believe it and havoc ensues.

Well...I can't tell you, how many friends and family bring up that I should do something with social work...be a counselor, something. I've always known I've been good at that, too.

The problem is, that I'm little miss *Empath*. I feel & notice everything, without having to do much to do that. It can kick the heck out of me.

My social work friends switch to other departments frequently...because of the stress. One of them ditched her job & degree and is now a dog groomer, because of the stress.

The article was about people who are trained in family problems... and families themselves sometimes don't want to SEE someone, they want to communicate on the phone or the net. Sounds good to me. ;)

Do you think your job has made you chance in a noticable way? I mean..do you get angry sometimes at seeing this stuff constantly..and does it stay with you? (I remember you said that not all cases were molestation...but even the amount you do see I wonder about).

I will catch you later...I have to round the babies up in the one A/C'd room (it's 100 degrees!) that I have. They get games & lovin' time after that. :D

later, tater!

I'd say that the people I interact with have changed me more than the job I do has altered me.

I'm pretty hardwired to the point that molestation, rapists and kidnappers are framed in my mind as "broken parts of society that have to be removed if they can't be repaired". I don't worry too much about them.

My big concert is when broken parts start to break other parts. the kids.

I'd say that I think more about parents not paying attention or kids that think that they can handle themselves when they run off... it just doesn't work. If I had a kid, I'd have them trackable six ways to sunday. (and only have them know about 2 of the ways.)
