It had four feet, but yesterday I saw a 13-lined ground squirrel while I was out on the road.

One foot... we have snails in the fish tank... do captive critters count?

I hope the squirrel was happy, and not *in* the road!

Sure, I'd wager your tank-snails are well-fed! :D

He was still very alive, probably scrounging spilled grain or grasshoppers. Neat to see one in the wild, rather than running around the zoo. (Brookfield Zoo outside of Chicago has piles of the little buggers. They're awful cute.)

I've never seen a squirrel eat a grasshopper!!

Now I know why there are so many huge, fat squirrels around here.. no food shortage at all.

Yeah, that was a bit of a shock to me yesterday when I looked them up - they're apparently quite the little omnivores! This little info card has some pretty good information about them.

Neato. The snails in Florida are much purtier than the snails in the Midwest. I saw some worms yesterday....no feet at all!!

Yes! I love worms. When I find 'em stranded on the pavement after it rains, I pick 'em up and move 'em to a nice patch of dirt.
